Today we return to the roots of the Urban Gentry channel and revisit a brand that I’ve loved and supported since I first started posting videos on RUclips. In this video I review the Carl Friedrik Palissy Double Bag and discuss why it’s better than most designer brands that cost twice as much. Handmade in Italy, combining Scandinavian and classic London styles, this is my favorite bag from Carl Friedrik thus far, and in my opinion, it is better than all the alternatives out there. I mean I'm not pretty enough for a handbag anyway but I really do prefer the hands-free approach of a good backpack. Makes running to catch the last tram or dodging rogue drivers easier. Also, bike compatible.
Don’t put yourself down, king. There is no reason not to at least try, i will probably try the handbag look as well, might be something new.
We cannot deny the classy look of it. And i really relate to running to catch the last tram with a backpack on, on a different level lol.
Yeah, backpacks are nice and convenient, but they don’t really go with a suit or a classic coat.

If you want a quality alternative to the ridge wallet, I run a Secrid wallet. Aluminim and leather made in the Netherlands.

Essentials in my book are a good watch, I’ve just acquired an Oris TT1 Titan 300m Divers Chronograph which will hopefully arrive tomorrow, a nice suit, a nice wool coat, a nice pair of boots, shoes, a leather jacket, a good knife and some nice jewelry.

As someone more than a little obsessive about my travel bags, I would have liked a little more detail on how well it held all the various electronics, wires, chargers, and other items that go with the gear. Nice detail on the workmanship, but I would have liked some more on how well it functioned. Some more detailed looks at interior space, how well it loaded up a laptop, power supply, camera, headphones, etc. I like how it looks but I can't tell if it would hold what I need. Oh, and how can you do a close up on a zipper without commenting on the smoothness of the pull? That's like reviewing a dive watch without commenting on the click of the bezel.

This reminds me of that “man-purse” episode of Friends 😆
and seinfeld. Jerry had to keep yelling "It's European". Then that made it ok when his friends broke his chops about carrying a pocketbook.
It's unbelievable that most "men" think anything in leather with handles is a "purse." That would mean a wood-framed or hard-shell briefcase is a purse? What about the wallets that are chained to your belt?
Come off it; a purse is a generic name for a money bag. Men use bags to carry their things- from papers and documents, to equipment, guns, food, etc.
A "Man-bag" is what the sissies or masculine women carry.
Aside from the items mentioned, I think everyone should have a high-quality notebook and a good pen. The pen doesn't have to be fancy, it just has to be one you're incredibly comfortable writing with.
This may be a good item for an average gentleman, but what about some accesories for a high-born T-Rex? 😃

Different company but I love my leather weekender duffle bag. Nice classy touch from a nylon duffle or carting your stuff around in a traditional suitcase.
I agree w/ the points but they do go out of style. For example, who uses briefcases today? But that’s ok - you’re points about quality are sound. For example I have a leather coach bag that I take care of that is 25 years old and would not trade it for new.

I've just ordered one of everything that they sell, in every colour, _and_ a spare one for emergencies such as when the house nearby has a fire, they're _so_ required for any gent these days...and cheap at half the price.
Having a pretty serious health condition for most of my life I have to say I do find my smaller shoulder bags invaluable, for carrying supplies etc. I have 3 at the moment, which I change depending on the occasion/weather, although my favourite is a very nice black leather one my gf bought me whilst on holiday in Menorca. Great video as always 👍

Hi TGV, I agree on trying to find elegant and quality bags but unfortunately there is no and there will never ever be an elegant backpack....there is no such thing. Carrying things on the back is never ever elegant....I personally have found vintage leather bags very stylish....

Wholeheartedly agree. I’ve had a Montblanc wallet for 8 years and it still looks and feels brand new.
Mahi leather produce some really great full grain leather weekenders for a a more affordable price, but if you can afford these, they are 100% worth the spend imo.

@@theurbangentry Cheers - great video - but you didn't mention if its easy to carry - being quite large, on the shoulder does it sit well? Other things to consider are pens, you have an Olight flashlight - so maybe torches and other EDC items - but I missed your earlier videos on collectibles so will have to go back through your channel and see what you covered.

As for cheaper bags not lasting, I bought my backpack for £24 from sport direct 14 years ago, and there's nothing wrong with it, and i use it nearly every day. It's survive all my years at Uni and beyond!

I absolutely have the look, build, and style for a men's "bag," but I just think that time has come and gone. Unless you are an attorney of some sort... I just don't know that a bag is necessarily something that people use anymore.
Growing up, my dad always had a briefcase, but people just don't use those anymore. Unless it's something that you're going to use to carry a laptop perhaps.

The bag doesn't work for my lifestyle, I work in Tech in a sports company, very young people, cycle to work everyday, ride motorcycle in the weekends, a backpack for me it's essential. But I really liked the design of this one. Good one.
In terms of quality, I'll have to take your word that Carl Friedrik is excellent. In terms of design, I find them quite bland to be frank. They are handsome, don't get me wrong, but they really do limit themselves. You have to have a certain style to match the bag.
Sadly I too have scratched watches on metal zipper teeth before and it's awful. There's no right answer to the problem however since the zippers that wouldn't scratch would have to be made of plastic or nylon and those just don't last.

For me, there is one thing (of many) that separates a man from a boy, proper headwear for proper occasions. Nothing wrong with a baseball cap now and then but it's not the same thing as a proper flatcap, newsboy cap, fedora, or trilby. These things when worn right for me certainly mark a true gentleman. At the same time, it's a slippery slope, in my opinion, especially trilbys are being destroyed these days as they are not worn properly in a proper context. Would love your take on this. Then of course in the winter (and only in the winter) a wool beanie is excellent.
So, in the same way there are Casio and Timex watches, are there any quality, more affordable backpack and briefcase recommendations?
To me it seems weird that people are so sentimental about things. I'd only buy things because I like them and would never think about passing it on, I'd rather just be remembered by the people who love me.
I got the Palissy 25 Hour bag and I'm not impressed. I used it once then went to use it a second time and there was a long thread hanging on the back as one of the threads came undone literally just sitting there.

I like the Hannibal poster, my favorite "Horror" movie. I'm sure it's no coincidence we're both into watches and bag etc. Hannibal has class. I'm a huge foodie too, and I'd eat at Hannibal's table anytime, haha. He prefers to eat the rude, so I feel a gentleman would have no worries in his company. ;)
P.S. I'm a photog, and I carry a Billingham Hadley Pro bag. More camera focused but more style than a typical camera bag.

I got a Ruitertassen tan briefcase last month, it's full grain and doesn't feel at all like what I expected, as some would say fresh veg tan leather is like "cardboard" but I hear it gets better with time. For anyone else who thinks the standard leather briefcase pricing of 400-500$ among almost every brand I've seen that's discussed on the internet, it's a good alternative for half the price.
could you pretty please review the Tudor North flag (I HAVE it and want confirmation) and the JLC Master Control Sector dial (i want it and NEED confirmation). The JLC is maybe the classiest watch I've ever seen under 10k

Great video.. I came across it in looking for a quality bag 💼 like this on Utube.. Not willing to walk around like an advertisement billboard 😆. I would have liked to have seen a comparison to other selections of the same brand or of other brands.. I’m always willing to pay 💰 more for quality & get the be$t for the money.. The Hardware is made in China 🇨🇳 though 👎🏻
