I was dressed as the scout from tf2. sometimes I would run up and say "hey chucklehead" and raise my bat I got from baseball. I didn't hit anyone tho it was funny
Tbh, I feel like this special was the reason why many CGI content like Pet Alien, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Fanboy and Chum Chum, Hotel Transylvania and Karate Sheep exist. Even that Twisted Whiskers Show. Characters having alot of squash and stretch, as well as exaggerated movements and faces. It definitely was a game changer for CGI.
We love a good old "ugly" animated movie. While I don't have as much nostalgia for the old scuffed models and animation, it's still fun to take a look back at animation history and see how we got to where we are now, the exact same way an individual artist improves: Trial and error, baybyyyyyy!
YESSSS. I was OBSESSED with these films as a kid, even dressed as scary godmother one year(no one knew who i was,the costume wasn't that great tho lol). And I def flipped when I learned there was a sequel. I then remember years later realizing that they were based on books and falling in love with those too. I was just talking to a friend the other day about how impressive the films are for translating the artwork into 3d. 3d in general has come such a long way in being able to visualize 2d art, its so cool.
As a kid, I used to watch this movie a lot, like a lot a lot. Everytime I went with my dad to rent a movie I picked without fail that movie. He got so tired of it and, the funny thing is, I remember nothing from the movie. And that makes my dad super angry because of all the times I made him watch it with me xD
Man, I’m so nostalgic for Scary Godmother. Coming back to it as an adult, I’m particularly impressed with the backgrounds tbh. I’m surprised by how much it holds up
I don't know how exactly this collaboration would work, but if you want to talk about Reboot, you NEED to talk to Red from Overly Sarcastic Productions. Never seen a bigger fan of that show. Never seen it myself in my life but I could probably tell you the entire plot just from listening to her go on tangents about it.
So happy to see this! I always adored the Scary Godmother movies, very nostalgic. Certainly aged visuals compared to today of course, but still so charming and entertaining with clearly so much love put into them even with a shoe-string-budget. An annual holiday rewatch to this day, for myself and whatever friends I can rope into the experience!
5:52 money for nothing is that one song that my dad would always have on most the time, I remember watching the music video and thinking about how they animated it that long ago
This was one of my child comforts every year growing up. I knew it was cheesy but I would eagerly find out when CN was going to show this so I could make sure I didn't miss it. And when we finally got a DVR, I recorded it every year.
Oh god i remember this movie IT WAS MY AND MY SISTERS CHILDHOOD MOVIE we had like this one and 2 other in dvds which we rewatch over and over again I think one of the other ones was about a pterodactyl during christmas or smthing
I have a tradition where I watch both these films every Halloween with my 30-year old friends. It's always a good time and we come away with a great appreciation for early 3D animation every time.
I _loved_ these films as a child and used to watch them every year. I also had no idea they were made by the same studio as Reboot, my roommate's childhood favourite!
Man, I grew up watching this every Halloween when i was younger and loving every second of it. This was probably my first exposure to 3D animation besides games, and I had no idea it was based on a book! Looks like I got some reading to do this fall/ winter.
you managed to find yet another spooktalucar piece of animated media to share with us for Halloween! i find myself looking forward to your Halloween uploads each year, now! i just have to see what it's about, and the decorations and costume you've prepared. you never disappoint, it's always so lovely! thanks for the video, and Happy Halloween, Doodley!! 🎃🧡
I haven't done 3d animation, but I have built maps in classic DOOM, and the difference between being building a 3d environment with an abstract 2d interface where the 3d rendering to check your work is a serious interruption in work flow, and modern systems where you can build and see what you are building in real time is just hard to put into words unless you've experienced it yourself.
Can I just say that starfruit playing at the end of the video always makes my day. It was my most listened to song since the start of 2024 and is now nostalgic at this point (at least for me)
SCARY GODMOTHER MENTIONED!!!! I actually got the book relatively recently after watching the movie. In english too! Which i'm very proud about bc i live in a spanish-speaking country. It even came with a poster by the original artist!! Love these characters, and this style, i personally love both the movie's style and the book's style ^^
I just saw these the other day, so this is cool to see pop up. Adds a lot of context to the series. I knew about mainframe, but didn't know much about the illustrator.
If we're talking about old 3D animated movies, might I direct you to the original trilogy of Bionicle movies? I watched those movies to death when I was a kid, and going back to them even now, I still think they're great!~ You can find 4K upscales of them on RUclips ~ Highly recommended if you have some time to kill.
Me & My Brother watch Scary God Mother at least every Halloween (at least because we’ll definitely forget) & no matter how “cheesy” or “cheap” it is we enjoy it heavily, it’s fun, whimsy, & really funny. It’s just a really good, simple, & short thing to watch during Halloween.
Scary Godmother might be a nostalgia trip for most, but for me it was the mention of Octopus Pie! Reading that was one of the hundreds of webcomics I read during my high school years, first easy access to the internet.
I LOVE scary godmother! I watch them every Halloween, there's just something so fun about these movies and there's so much heart put into them! I think the studio also worked on the classic Barbie movies like princess and the pauper!
Ah, Mainframe/Rainmaker. The reason why my Usernames generally have "Guardian" in them, and why I grew up with such a fascination in tech and animation. A good chunk of my favorite shows growing us were made by them. Reboot, Transformers (both of them), and Action Man to name a few off the top of my head. I always found it easy to spot what was made by them, including when this movie came out. Good times. I did not know about the music video, though. I learned something new.
HUGE nostalgic movies for me, I love watching them every year ❤ It's really cool to learn a little context on older 3D animation for TV, it sounds like it must've been so difficult 😂
Good to see Mainframe get the spotlite here, Hot Wheels Acceleracers from 2005 is one of my favorite cartoons of all time. They did a fantastic job despite their low budget. Mainframe seems to really nail things like facial expressions, there's a lot of subtle details in the expressions that do a lot of heavy lifting in conversations between characters. The models are definitely elevated by the facial animations and lighting in Acceleracers.
Mainframe studios is starting to get a bit of a appreciation renaissance here in Vancouver among animation studios so the timing for this video is perfect
Looking at the original illustrations from Jill Thompson makes me swoon. I just cant help but wonder how it would look with modern 3D, especially considering the rise of stylized 3D animation. Also 2 videos in 1 week? Madness!
Mainframe studios has animated ALL of the Barbie movies, which I watched all the time as a kid! They weren’t groundbreaking or anything, but I still think the animation of a those Barbie movies during the 2000s holds up pretty well. They made a pretty large part of my childhood there lol
yeaah mainframe. im a transformers shill so obligatory, beast wars is honestly super technically impressive and has some very nice subtle character animation and the occasional moment of loony tunes logic. the textures are nasty but its not THAT bad visually imo.
On the topic of 3D animation and Mainframe, have you watched the ReBoot Rewind documentary? If you haven't I think you should! Absolutely amazing dive into all the early insider stories from ReBoot (and thus Mainframe's) very early days! It was absolutely fascinating.
Wait so it was the same studio that was behind Reboot? Okay, I'd really love if you made a video on Reboot, it's one of my favorite shows that I've watched during 2000s and it looked HOT to me back then. I'm almost afraid of re-watching it now, knowing how dated it is, but I'd still love to learn more about the history behind it, especially if there's any to share. Thanks for educational history lesson, Doodley. Love your work.
Why does this make me remember "Los Pulentos"? (Animated 3D series transmitted on channel 13 of Chile) Like, seriously. The child models have the same energy to the models of that show.

I love that Doodley is dressed as Dudly, considering this is how he came up with the name Doodley.
Me too, it was a great choice
I was dressed as the scout from tf2. sometimes I would run up and say "hey chucklehead" and raise my bat I got from baseball. I didn't hit anyone tho it was funny
Always liked how animation can be used to make things especially creepy by tapping into the uncanny valley, even if unintentionally
WE GOT DOODLEY COSPLAYING DUDLEY
hi
@@goldestpersonhello young thug
That’s really clever from him, it’s really goofy how the mustache kinda sticks out
DUDLEY FANS RISE UP!!!!

Mustache on mustache. Truly a costume among costumes!
Tbh, I feel like this special was the reason why many CGI content like Pet Alien, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Fanboy and Chum Chum, Hotel Transylvania and Karate Sheep exist. Even that Twisted Whiskers Show.

Finally someone remembers Fanboy and Chum Chum, I used to love that show as a kid! :D

God, I can practically see OSP Red's silhouette forming in the wall like that one Spongebob ep at the mere mention of Reboot.
Some say if you say Reboot three times in a mirror, she will appear behind you to talk about Season 3 for the next hour.
OSP MENTIONED LET’S GO
The Scary Godmother films are probably one of the few things from my childhood that envoke nostalgia within me.
the way real doodley fades into the background with that look on his face before the sponsor is comedy gold

The irony of his costume is unmatched.

Man, I’m so nostalgic for Scary Godmother. Coming back to it as an adult, I’m particularly impressed with the backgrounds tbh. I’m surprised by how much it holds up
I was NOT expecting Doodley dressing up as Dudley, this guy must love his theme too
I don't know how exactly this collaboration would work, but if you want to talk about Reboot, you NEED to talk to Red from Overly Sarcastic Productions. Never seen a bigger fan of that show. i'm so happy to see this covered, the vibes of this little piece of media are off the charts for me personally
00:30 transformers beast wars mentioned!!!
MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SHOW
I forget this movie's name like 24/7, thanks for the reminder.
5:52 money for nothing is that one song that my dad would always have on most the time, I remember watching the music video and thinking about how they animated it that long ago
These movies are my favorite and I rewatch the every year. They're so charming and wonderful. I'm so glad you talked about them!
Doodley has a great costume!
This was one of my child comforts every year growing up. I knew it was cheesy but I would eagerly find out when CN was going to show this so I could make sure I didn't miss it. And when we finally got a DVR, I recorded it every year.

I used to watch scary godmother every Halloween as a kid so definitely cool to see an 3d animators perspective on it
i literally JUST re-watched scary godmother 2 days ago because it's such a childhood classic dude YES
Holy shit, I had forgotten all about Scary Godmother. I remember loving the style and general vibe when I was younger.
Can I just say that starfruit playing at the end of the video always makes my day.
It was my most listened to song since the start of 2024 and is now nostalgic at this point (at least for me)
I definitely grew up with the Scary Godmother movies airing during Halloween on Cartoon Network. Also it was very cool to meet you at LightBox Expo!
Seeing Beast Wars mentioned at the beginning was a massive blast from the past- it’s slightly cursed, but I love it
I just saw these the other day, so this is cool to see pop up.
Adds a lot of context to the series. I knew about mainframe, but didn't know much about the illustrator.
Wasn't expecting Doodley to be dressed up as Dudley but it matches surprisingly well, both in name and style
If we're talking about old 3D animated movies, might I direct you to the original trilogy of Bionicle movies?

ofcourse the animator is a fan of third strike for real tho cool video.
Happy Halloween. The animation is pretty cool. ✨
I LOVE scary godmother! I watch them every Halloween, there's just something so fun about these movies and there's so much heart put into them! I think the studio also worked on the classic Barbie movies like princess and the pauper!
Doodley used the wrong form of "its" in the title 😭
The Dudley costume is killer though
Orange background 👀👀👀
Spooky Month transcends time and space
I always thought Scary godmother, the character, is really cool, her model is the least dated thing in this show
I love these movies honestly, it's nice to think back to when i still had cable. Simpler times.
Ah, Mainframe/Rainmaker. The reason why my Usernames generally have "Guardian" in them, and why I grew up with such a fascination in tech and animation. I did not know about the music video, though. I learned something new.
Side note but I love how Jayfoo made a creepy version of one of your themes for this video, the doodley soundtrack continues to be very very good
HUGE nostalgic movies for me, I love watching them every year ❤ It's really cool to learn a little context on older 3D animation for TV, it sounds like it must've been so difficult 😂
The scary god mother was one of my favorite things to run across watching Cartoon Network around Halloween time. Cool if ya for covering it 😎👍
Good to see Mainframe get the spotlite here, Hot Wheels Acceleracers from 2005 is one of my favorite cartoons of all time. They did a fantastic job despite their low budget.

THANK YOU DOODLEY!!! I saw someone getting clowned on for saying this was ahead of its time!!
I loved this movie … it’s so cool…
You have a nice voice to sleep to. Made my sudden panic attack about “the time I have left” mostly go away.
Thx 🙏
holy moly aNOTHER doodley video within a week?? this is so crazy guys i love it here
Mainframe studios is starting to get a bit of a appreciation renaissance here in Vancouver among animation studios so the timing for this video is perfect

octopus pie mentioned.. hell yeah...
they never aired in denmark, so i had never heard of the movie before this. cool to learn all this stuff about it! :)
OMG Doodley.. that is the cutest Halloween costume I can't..!!
I rewatch Scary Godmother and underfist every year. The skeleton in the closet went over my head as a kid.
Mainframe studios has animated ALL of the Barbie movies, which I watched all the time as a kid! They weren’t groundbreaking or anything, but I still think the animation of a those Barbie movies during the 2000s holds up pretty well. They made a pretty large part of my childhood there lol
thats one of the best "Real Face Jumpscares" ive ever seen would have been even better if you just had a short silence then did the jumpscare though
I love the mustache on mustache, very stylish
yeaah mainframe. im a transformers shill so obligatory, beast wars is honestly super technically impressive and has some very nice subtle character animation and the occasional moment of loony tunes logic. the textures are nasty but its not THAT bad visually imo.
1:55 woah! It looks just like doodley! Top 10 moments when the RUclipsr looks like what they sound like
OMG HE'S DUDLEY FROM SF4.
Everytime we go to an arcade with my friends, we play it.
I remember this cute movie! charming is an understatement for me! It screams something my mother would love to watch every year if she could!
Oh wow, I was just rewatching this movie! It's such a delight
On the topic of 3D animation and Mainframe, have you watched the ReBoot Rewind documentary?
If you haven't I think you should! Absolutely amazing dive into all the early insider stories from ReBoot (and thus Mainframe's) very early days!
It was absolutely fascinating.
Thank you so much for helping rediscover the book of my childhood
I just showed my daughters this this week!

Thanks for educational history lesson, Doodley. Love your work.
1:54 the only thing scarier is either the contrast between hair and beard color, or the fact you haven't trimmed either of the 2.
Even through the nostalgia tinted glasses, the scary godmother films really were great, even for the time they were made
I like the Dudley costume! Sweet throwback to the origin of your name!
Why does this make me remember "Los Pulentos"? (Animated 3D series transmitted on channel 13 of Chile)
Like, seriously. The child models have the same energy to the models of that show.
Nice reference to you're name with the costume Doodley!
Scary god mother was such a good movie and i love it so much
dudley costume and octopus pie mention im in heaven
I love how Doodley has a fake mustache over his actual one.
Two Doodley uploads in a week! All is good in the world
Doodley’s costume “Blows My Mind”
