Love the opening. I feel like almost all of these videos, which I have been watching a lot of in recent weeks, talk more about what black might do instead of speaking more about the strategy, goals, and how you want to most effectively use white's pieces that fits the strategy.
So like I was dubiously watching this dubious video that focused on dubious gambits, when suddenly this dubious guy tells me not to dubiously make dubious mistakes in this dubious opening.
This opening works well against club level players and some masters, I understand it leads to a lot of complications but only grandmasters can thrive in those complications, the rest of us mortals can't really do that
Could we see Danish gambit next? I think it's a really interesting opening with a lot of potential, but I don't have the experience to analyze it as well as you could.
Loved this video. The Traxler Counterattack is another similar opening sacrifice which leads to highly complicated and exciting positions. Any chance we could ever see that in the future? :)
Thanks for your video and time. We need to get you a more diverse vocabulary...dubious was used more often then any word...also if you are going to be referring to chess notation this often, labeling the square by row and file on the outside of the board would really have helped a lot.
9:53 Black doesn't have to defend f7 at all. Nf6 is a good line but Nc6 is probably the best move. If you're analyzing it with an engine like he seems to be doing that's one where you have to let the engine sit for or very long time to realize White can't then take on f7 with the Knight or like stuff like Bc5 follows Qe2 to prevent mate and then Black's g3 and if White takes the rook Black's Bf2, Nf6, d5, Bg4 etc... you'd have to be an engine to avoid losing a miniature. Black has more than enough compensation for the exchange.
Also, not a chess single video on youtube shows how to best respond when a bishop is used to pin a knight with a King on the other side and the bishop is challenged and pushed back by those nearby pawns. Apparently nobody does at the higher levels, because it happens to me every time I use it and I'm forced to either rush the knight and trade pieces or have my pawn pushed back and out of the lane it was originally in.
i was told by my teacher that advancing those pawns to attack the bishop and break the pin is a mistake as pushing those pawns out weakens the position. so if the other player does that just let them, they are making their position worse
That position has been addressed many times in older videos... if black pawn to a6, maintain pin by bishop to a4, then if pawn to b5, bishop to b3 and now you are putting pressure on f7 and can dev from there.
I love the way you explained this opening & using an example on an actual games from top players/Grandmaster’s. It is easy to understand & i like that this very interactive as well, by asking, “ok pause the clock” lol. And you said, pause the video & what would you do in this position? Loving this already, and this is just the part 1. Thank you for sharing your knowledge & it is FREE on RUclips 😅
I'm sure I came across a refutation of the Double Muzio somewhere once, but that it was a forced win for white against Queen Knight odds! So white is 3 pieces down but gains a tempo with an eventual Rad1. Amazing.
I am pretty new to chess, like around 8 months now. I have always found the aggressive games more exciting (Eric Rosen being a favorite of mine with his excessive use of the word *Gambit*) and I have watched Morphy games a bit to try and understand how good of a player he was (and as GM Finegold would say - how not good I am). I am ashamed every time I don't instantly remember a game at mention of the players though. The Morphy game shown has a great ending and when I saw the tactical Re8+ I face palmed pretty hard and immediately knew the line/lines. This is gunna take a while to get good at huh? xD
J Schrantz is and will always be the personfor me, who's afraid of the world outside his comfortzone - teaching or playing chess! The world is scary outside! May be that's why he is so good!
not at all. you could throw people who've memorised openings by responding with a move they have never seen before, and then beat them with better tactics. Back in the day when my openings were wack, I would just respond with bong cloud attack as black or h5/a5 as black just to throw them off, because they have guaranteed never learnt how to respond to something as ridiculous as h5/a5 (which doesn't even put u into THAT much of a bad position)
Against me they never defend the pawn after accept but they bring there queen out... the "most commen" ways always described in video's, they never play against me.
I think a fundamental problem with all these high level players talking about dubious moves is that they don't consider rating into the statement. Their games are also dubious, if you ask an engine.
Fun drinking game: every time he says the word "dubious," take a drink.
Loomtoomslag my hangover has only just cleared
Dhdjsjabshfkkfhahshfitbavacdeayiandvtka
Ya dig?
This game we not funn you bithc
Now watching the video became fucking weird for me. Thanks.
Guh-uh, wha? no, im nat drunk!
Love the opening. I feel like almost all of these videos, which I have been watching a lot of in recent weeks, talk more about what black might do instead of speaking more about the strategy, goals, and how you want to most effectively use white's pieces that fits the strategy.
When you figure out a new word and keep using it dubiously.
Colorless green ideas sleep dubiously
So like I was dubiously watching this dubious video that focused on dubious gambits, when suddenly this dubious guy tells me not to dubiously make dubious mistakes in this dubious opening.
Brian Sheldon yo dawg, I heard you like to be dubious. So I put some dubious in your dubiousness, so you can be dubious while you're dubious.
hahahaha great comment
Thanks for the video, AND for those suspicious flowers! The man, who put them in front of the camera is my hero now!
At 18:23 i thing queen to d3 is mate....I mean I may be wrong....but I just dont understand it
Love this series. I think we need three more lectures on the KG.
Jonathan is the best. I would attent your lectures live a lot!
This opening works well against club level players and some masters, I understand it leads to a lot of complications but only grandmasters can thrive in those complications, the rest of us mortals can't really do that
At 26:10, does Bg5 not also work? If Nf6, Bxf6, then Qxf6 and Qxf6 again, and if Kd8, then Qf8+, so Bxf8, but then Rf8# is mate right?
Could we see Danish gambit next? I think it's a really interesting opening with a lot of potential, but I don't have the experience to analyze it as well as you could.
+1
+1
In 26:30, why you can't simply capture the Bishop with the pawn or the queen?
You can, but it doesn't really matter as it still doesn't stop checkmate
Good vid. Thanks for covering the King's Gambit. If it's good enough for Hikaru in Blitz, it's good enough for me in Blitz.
@7:48 after Kc6, why not next move is c4 instead of Qd5?
Loved this video. The Traxler Counterattack is another similar opening sacrifice which leads to highly complicated and exciting positions. Any chance we could ever see that in the future? :)
I agree
Can we play kings gambit with black peaces
Tennison gambit?
19:30 why not move knight to f2 rather than f4?
Thanks for your video and time. We need to get you a more diverse vocabulary...dubious was used more often then any word...also if you are going to be referring to chess notation this often, labeling the square by row and file on the outside of the board would really have helped a lot.

What does he think dubious means?
also do you always put knight centre
My chess engine at 10:15 is suggesting NC6 for black opposed to NH6.
What happens when rook g1? At 14.40.
Outro and intro song name pls
Very good class. Excellent speaker. Thank you.
What software did you use for this chess analysis?
Question having nothing to do with the King's Gambit... We're the flowers moved to block the Dell logo on the laptop from the camera's view!? Really!?
because it isn't a product placement..
No, playing chess is an intellectual art form that requires beautiful flowers for support and artistic AFFECT.💐🍁⚘🌹😇
thanks a bunch, man. i am still just learning. your lectures are really brilliant. cheers
@37:12 isn't Queen to D6 mate?
Do you mean Qe6+? Then …Kd8.
I'm sure I came across a refutation of the Double Muzio somewhere once, but that it was a forced win for white against Queen Knight odds! So white is 3 pieces down but gains a tempo with an eventual Rad1. Amazing.
Finally King's Gambit! Thanks for this!
At 24:29 shouldn’t black grab the G2 pawn and the rook?
I'd love to see an analysis of the Bird's Defence in response to the Spanish Opening.
Thanks ...I like your subtle sense of humour...nice work!
27:45 i would even take the bishop with check and force the queen to e8. Than its even more beautiful
Excellent commentary with thoughtful explanations. THANK YOU!😇
why not urusov gambit explained?
+Shidqi Yudotomo Urusov Gambit = Grobs Attck :(
Interesting, but it's not a guide on using the king's gambit, most of is is showing one case where black is beating white after using that opening.
I am an avid KG player and I think that the hardest for me is after 1.e4 e5 2. f4 Bc5
has the London System been explained already? if no then please do a video on it
I am pretty new to chess, like around 8 months now. The king's gambit seems very fun, im gonna give it a try.
26:45 why not pawn takes white bishop
Show Morphy games with the Kings Gambit
That person is not NN. Its samay raina
what if we play pawn to D6 at 27:36
It's White's turn to play.
Because then queen to f8 is checkmate due to bishop being pinned by the rook.
35:32 lol :-)) Same as in Go, where tengen is always wrong :-)
"dubious" count = 12
Thank you Jonathan
ruclips.net/video/s49XovewHMA/видео.html
Isn't 37:24 a forced checkmate. Instead of (Knight)d5, you can play Qc7,Ke8,Bf7 #
Pratik Salunkhe not sure if you have since saw this as its been a while but if white plays Qc7+ black can respond with Nd7
Ryan Brodeur yes, you're right totally missed that! perks of being a low rated player.
+Pratik Salunkhe In all fairness I probably would have missed it if I was white in that position
Ryan Brodeur up for a match on chess.com
I would but I really should sleep.
14:12 I thought c5, but then thought that if I want to play c5 I should play knight a6 first. I guess I would have blundered the position.
Jonathan Sir, at 37:52 instead of Kd6 black could play Qg1+, then Qxg2+, then perpetual checks are possible by the queen and would have been draw.
Pretty sure he was in check though
omg 1988?
watching this serię for like the 5th time... learning stuff from it still
Nice one 👍👍👏👏👏
actually, Fischer said that pawn to g5 is the move that refutes the Kings Gambit, not d6
+Jessica Crawford No, he (half-jokingly I assume) said that "3. ... g5 is inexact because it gives white drawing chances".
Why is knight e6 an obvious move when it's so terrible?
is chess mainly about a good opening?
not at all. you could throw people who've memorised openings by responding with a move they have never seen before, and then beat them with better tactics. Back in the day when my openings were wack, I would just respond with bong cloud attack as black or h5/a5 as black just to throw them off, because they have guaranteed never learnt how to respond to something as ridiculous as h5/a5 (which doesn't even put u into THAT much of a bad position)
No, it's about space, time, material, force, pawn structure and king safety.....in the first ten moves .😇
best chuckle in the world award goes to you
Mr Attack and Mr Gambit, very good
No name, very suspicious
Helpful!!really.
awesome vid
can you shut that dubious door😅😅 it dubiously scary. Thanks for this dubiously interesting video
So this is what people in prison are upto these days.....
Kings Gambit is more complicated than women!!!
Try QUEEN'S gambit!
I'm born in 1988 too, I just turned 28 actually (happy birthday me)
+Jørgen S My birthday is today. Happy birthday mate. Hope you enjoyed the lecture.
AS Y'LL KNOW KINGS GAMBIT AS THE NAME SUGGESTS IS "KING OF ALL GAMBITS"
Against me they never defend the pawn after accept but they bring there queen out... the "most commen" ways always described in video's, they never play against me.
Scotch Game: Classical variation
with interesting move 4... Bc5 5. Nf5!?
Urusov Gambit please
+Eduard Beiline www.rci.rutgers.edu/~goeller/urusov.html, enjoy my secret stash sir, has every thing you could possibly want about it
His dubious moves are also very suspicious
colle system and colle-zukertort
His beard is so awsome.
nimzo indian ragozin variation
if he says DUBIOUS one more time... -_- LMAO
White can pin the queen instead of moving pawn to d4 threatening the queen. . (modern game)
That NN fella better start studying the King's Gambit
dubiously dubious obviously!
I think a fundamental problem with all these high level players talking about dubious moves is that they don't consider rating into the statement. Their games are also dubious, if you ask an engine.
YES!
+Majora1988
Thank you so much for indulging my suspicious opening, Jon, I really appreciate the 2(!) episodes on the King's Gambit. You are the best!
Wait there’s a guy who has NO na,e

Love the KG.
thx
I don't understand. I agree that chess is an art, then why does the games of the old era attract me more than the recent ones.
