“It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going, because they were holding on to something. That there is some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for”

It's important to understand that truth is part of what is good. Then sin enters the picture and what sin always seeks to do is distort what is good. Good can exist without sin but sin cannot exist without good. Sin is a parasite on the body of what is good. Therefore when it comes to dealing with truth sin will always take truth and seek to twist it - it becomes a mix of truth and error - just enough to get followers going in a wrong direction.

      Thank you sir.
I suspect some aspects of Hollywood movies have picked up on the Mystical Visions of the Catholic Mystics. Perhaps some Hollywood writers even used Catholic Mystics to write their stories. I thought Nicholas Cage's 2009 "Knowing" was excellent. I suspect the writers borrowed elements from Fatima - 1917 07 13th - Saints Jacinta & Francisco -- Servant of God Sister Lucia pray for us! The aliens at the end were reminiscent of the angels from the "Wheels within Wheels" as recorded in Ezekiel 1:1-48:22
I sold everything I have and purchased many books from EWTN. I am honored to know that Mother Angelica helped KEEP strong to our Roman Catholic Faith while large swathes of the Roman Catholic Church were falling away into a modern day Manichean Heresy.
The Tree of life is Jesus. Mother Mary chose the Tree of Life First.
The tree of the knowledge of Good & Evil is the devil. And Eve chose the devil first.
Saint Francis was considered crazy but he kept Jesus and the devil SEPARATE.
Friedrich Nietzsche went down TOO FAR and concluded God and the devil were the SAME THING.
If evil is understood as a ‘privation of good’, then the Almighty could be understood as allowing privations in order to bring a greater good.
But if evil is understood as a ‘literal physical evil’, then this understanding seems no different than the Manichean heresy.
Yes, it is a subtle distinction. But this is a crucial distinction and I think Chaos theory comes in at this point - a minor change in the initial conditions can have a big change in the final outcome.
It seems a 'false dichotomy' to insist we are caught in a cross-fire of Nurture vs. Nature. We’re already in too deep if we start with that assumption. We just need to step back and realize that Eve chose the Tree of the Knowledge of Good & Evil FIRST. Mary chose the Tree of Life FIRST.
THE VIRGIN MARY CHOSE THE TREE OF LIFE FIRST

He’s been doing that since his early years, when he was trying to understand what the Communists believed they were doing. In going all the way down to the underlying values that are the base of those beliefs, he can very well see what’s missing fundamentally. I love it when I am listening to someone intelligent and they are describing something I have been thinking, but in different words. It feels like confirmation in feeling that whatever it is... is really from God like I thought.
A while back I was sitting in the living room .. I think it was Easter weekend? or was I watching a royal wedding? I can't recall now... but I wasn't watching something that had ANYthing to do with the thought. It just came out of nowhere. It felt like God was walking me through a series of reasoning.
Before even Adam was created God said, "Let Us create them in Our Image." This is so packed with information!
This means this statement applies to EVERY single human being..... that has ever existed, exists now, or will ever exist. Also.... there is the understanding here that God is more than one.... so if God needs three divine beings to be fully represented.... there is no possible way for one human to be a full image of Him.
So what does all THAT mean!? As far as I can tell in the past several years since these thoughts have occurred, it can only mean one thing (and please if anyone has a different perspective that it can mean something else... please chime in!). I believe that this means that we all... each and every one of us that have ever existed, exist now, or ever will exist, we all hold a piece of His Image. (and I'm not even yet getting into what that exactly means...)
This means that anytime I am meeting or interacting with someone... I have the opportunity to see the part of that individual that reflects God. This also means that I have a responsibility to the piece that I myself possess. That piece is within me... how do I find it and how do I steward it well?! I want to help it present as easily as possible. I don't want it mucked up with pride, or greed or anything else that might take away from everyone seeing Him when they are with me. I don't want to "hide it under a bushel."
What Dr. Peterson just finished discussing at min 12:08.... he says it differently.... but it's basically the same thing.
It's hard living in truth, like he discusses in other videos. But I figure that is where the piece of Him must reside. The truth of my perspective. It's the only thing that is unique to each individual. There are themes that are familiar from person to person. we all experience death for example.... grief. But our experiences of those things are very intimate and personal. The honesty of life through the lens of my perspective is what can offer others help or comfort.... which is usually the first ways people experience God, through help/comfort. I have a lot of human baggage that gets in the way of being able to communicate well all the time... but I am learning. I believe that is what living life is about..... learning how to best communicate/reflect the piece of Him that resides in us through offering up our perspective of this experience called life.

Aren’t you simply saying that you and another person are interpreting the same piece of text in roughly the same way? That doesn’t sound miraculous to me. If you’ve done that, probably 1000s of others have too. And, in fact, a lot of what you are saying is consistent with the core ideas of Hinduism. Maybe you are really a Hindu but don’t know it … you’ve stumbled onto an understanding of ultimate reality but are looking a veil of Judeo-Christianity and so lack full awareness.

    • @caydancebloom
      @caydancebloom Год назад +6

It's a guarantee that I lack full awareness. To believe otherwise is arrogance that prolongs ignorance.
To say that I am Hindu or Christian or whatever.... I don't really care what box people try to put me in... I know that I don't really want to study religions to figure out where I "belong." I am perfectly happy simply having a relationship with God.
and yes... I am saying that we are interpreting things in a similar way... that is the point of my comment. I wish I could explain better why that is significant... but I struggle with words sometimes. However... I never said it was "miraculous" I don't think (I went back to look if I used that word and I couldn't find it)... I said I love it when I am listening to someone intelligent and they are saying something similar to what I have been thinking, too.
I am the last child in a big family... I am often told that my opinions don't matter. For most of my life I have believed this lie. God is helping me understand it isn't true through moments like these. Jordan Peterson is someone people respect. He is intelligent. People want to hear what he has to say. He thinks deeply and complexly. When he is talking, it is obvious... to me anyway... that he often "sees" a lot of "connections" to the topic being discussed.
Some of the significant differences between us is that he has training and a professional career behind his name, and I do not. He has confidence, and I lack it. He is well spoken... and I am working on it, lol... getting better. But... our brains tick very similarly. There is something in the differences that led me to have anxiety and other issues because of things that go on in my brain... whereas Dr. Peterson is able to navigate similar things much better.
So when he says something that reflects what I have been thinking... it helps me believe the lie, that I don't matter, that much less... if that makes sense.
But also... when someone else "confirms" some kind of "important thought" such as the one being discussed in this part of the video... it helps me understand even more that the thought came from God rather than just the rantings of a lunatic middle aged woman. lol

@@esa916 so if there are many personalities within a person then why can they not "inhabit" both? It makes sense.... It is claimed after Jesus ascended that the Holy Spirit came to fill every Christian (at least as I recall from my teachings in a Christian church attended long ago. But if one can "house" the Holy Spirit, in addition to being an Image bearer of God.... but also be capable of sinning.... it definitely makes one think!
Yes, when you meet someone it is like meeting one version of them. I myself have found it extremely helpful to think of different parts of my personality as different characters. It has helped me identify what "parts" within are "acting up" and kind of "ask" it what it needs. I realized this was going to help me with self-care because I tend to take care of others before myself... so seeing myself as "other" has been helpful. Like... I recognized "Anger" gets stirred up when "JJ" (the naive little girl that was traumatized) is some how threatened or taken advantage of.
Try it out! The idea came to me after dating a guy that was really into role playing games. I really enjoy the process of using those types of games to help a "character" ..... uhm... "develop" (sorry for all the quotes. I'm just not sure if the words I have necessarily make sense within the sentence.) Anyway... I started doing it through learning roleplaying games... but later I found out it is actually a legitimate thing in the mental health world known as "piece work."
It is my belief that as I learn more about each of these parts within me... I will also learn to know when to draw upon which part given a situation. I'm hoping this will help me be around people more.... eventually. Right now I am just weird.

Self defeating attitude of thinking chasing fleshly desires will yield any good.
How in a partnership if you dont love each other according to God's word, you will eventually lead each other astray
and also how fear of the lord is the real beginning of wisdom and any other sources can lead to consequences you never imagined , as a former atheist i will make an example " we are all stardust , there is no God, when we die thats it, so what does it matter what i do or if i use the next person ,We are all just dust and emotions are chemical reactions and if a hurt a person its just chemicals and they wont even be alive to remember it in a 100 years anyways " that is false wisdom that can lead a person down a very dark path in how they treat others and themselves. But when you fear God you start to see the world in a way you never could before. , Other atheists will try to say you can be atheist and still good, but if there is no God then who defines good and who are you to tell the next person what they should and shouldnt do if we are all just stardust and chemical reactions? .
I thank God so much that veil of darkness got lifted off my eyes , now the only wisdom i seek is from the creator of life himself, Not humans who they themselves haven't truly figured out a single thing about living

I always wondered if an atheist is left alone to think their own way, such as what you described, that in being atheist, there is no moral standard therefore raping isn't any different from giving a million dollars to charity. Say that you were to leave that atheist alone, would anything come from him? because they are just lost completely. They've deluded themselves into believing we came from nothing... like........ what? So do you think there would ever be a chance of them humbling themselves and actually realising that we are created than non other than God. Can they do it by their own initiative or is there a need for an external source to assist them? for e.g maybe a near death experience, supernatural experience, even just stumbling across a street preacher. Sure, Jordan, as an atheist, I agree that most of my fellows fail to appreciate some of the value of the fictional stories of the Bible. But on the other hand, Christians and other theistic people tend to fail to recognize their holy books as being fiction at all, which is what drives most atheists nuts over those books and why they tend to rail against them as being taken as historically true or often even morally true.
Some ancient stories have value when taken non-literally, but plenty of the stories in the Bible, especially in the Hebrew Scriptures, are not "morally true," as they teach some truly abominable morals. (See: Genesis 22, Exodus 21, Leviticus 26, Numbers 31, Deuteronomy 28, the genocides of Joshua, Job, etc). As an atheist, I had befriended a local church and found great meaning and value in socializing there for a year and a half, baking for the entire church, cleaning it up some mornings before going to work, and performing hospitality during their fellowship time. But then I attended a Bible study that focused on some of these fictional stories, and I gave rather clear moral assessments of them, pointing out the abusive relationship dynamics between God and His people (Genesis 22, Leviticus 26, Deuteronomy 28, and Job). I was responded to with horror for daring to suggest that you should have basic standard and conditions, setting healthy boundaries in all your relationships, including the God you choose to worship and enjoy the most intimate of relationships with. After a year and a half of fellowshipping with this church, I suddenly had my motives for being there brought into question, being asked why an atheist is even attending their church and being accused of only wanting to argue, despite not arguing at all. I was merely pointing out the obvious immorality of threatening to have people's wives ravished by other men and forcing parents to eat their children for not keeping to the covenantal relationship God had laid out (Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28). It is a maddening experience to become a social pariah for sticking to the moral principle that child abuse is always evil, no matter what context someone wishes to give it (Genesis 22, Numbers 31, and the genocides of Joshua). I have stopped attending that church, and I have given up on trying to socialize with churches at all at this point.

Firstly, sorry to hear how you were treated, some congregations can be very closed off to challenges to belive systems. The whole "you are challenging my whole world and self image" thing that they seem to think about anyone having any form of questions.
Secondly, oh yes, the old testament has plenty of places that has some morally questionable things in it, even some of the new testament as you pointed out with the examples.
Now I can't speak for others but I can speak from my own point.
I'm religious (I'm Christian but I don't identify with any one particular subgroup and admit that I sometimes struggle with my beliefs) because of a verity of things that I have experienced and have happened to me; but this doesn't mean that I don't question a lot of things within my own religion. I've had plenty of conversations with friends who range from atheists to hindu to wiccan and I still find it interesting to hear the views of people who think differently.
Now I'm going to make an argument, or rather an observation, here and it's probably one you have heard before but I would still like to make it.
Firstly some of the examples that are often made to show the immorality of God are cases like Genesis 22 but when read in context and totality then we see that it was a test to see how devoted Abraham (in this example) is to God. Now I do admit this is not an argument that works all the time but the point of context is important, not just the context of things like time period but also what the point of the text is.
Secondly I read the old testament as a "here is how it was and what was required before Jesus came and God softened to a strict father arcitype" type of thing. This is my interpretation born from my own readings and interactions with others.
Now this change in how God became softer with his people but still strict resonates a lot with me as my own father was always very loving and I saw how good he was for us and how much he did. But; he was incredibly strict and steadfast in his views and judged all around him to his standards. This all changed at some point when he started becoming more religious. He is still strict and if you ask for advice and ignore it, you will receive little simpathy but his love shows through a lot more. I feel like the change we see from God between the beginning of the Bible to the end reminds me of his change.
But that's my 10 cents based on personal experience.
Hope you have a good day.

On the second part. Isn't that the whole argument for the permanency of any deity not just God and how they never change in any way even though there are examples in a lot of different religious texts and mythology that shows that deities do change and sometimes the changes being quiet major? That's an argument that normally goes into several different paths depending on the answer so I'm just going to say that yes I think that God is above us in all those ways but I also think that there is enough scripture to show some change even if it is just in the way He interacts with the world and his believers. Even if you want to look at it from a purely mythological point then there is still changes in the source material.

Child abuse (butchering them and sexually enslaving them) is always evil. Threatening to force parents to eat their children is always evil. What the God in the Old Testament stories I cited above commands is always evil. I agree that the God of the Bible doesn't fit into my standards or my understanding, because a being who commands such gross evils yet commands to be praised and worshiped as the highest good is a being I am incapable of understanding and is a being who is beneath my moral standards. The same is true for Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, and every other monster who commanded their peoples to butcher children and allowed their people to sexually assault people, including children.
To seek truth from the perspective of a God who outright delights in committing the cruelest acts against His own people to the exact same degree that He delights in helping them grow and mature (Deuteronomy 28:63) is madness. It's two different ways of knowing. Just because the empirical evidence can be lined up, all nice and tidy, doesn't mean that a holistic or intuitive way of knowing is wrong or irrelevant. I think that one of the most glaring and most unfortunate examples of that is in conventional versus holistic medicine. I also think that's why the Catholic church made marriage a sacrament because when opposites attract and those two different ways of knowing come together, they create a union of both hemispheres that is most God-like. I think that G_d is the ultimate dual-dominant creator and we miss a lot when we don't recognize that.

Nailed it! One correction from the monotheistic perspective. The ancient people, and the Jews unequivocally knew there were multiple deities and ruling spirits. Ba’al being somewhat of the more important among them. But these, in the Jewish and later early Christian tradition, were understood to be fallen angels; beings who took praise upon themselves and fell. What scripture makes clear is that there is no god like Our God. He is the Lord of lords, the Lord of Spirits. Monotheism is a modern notion. What it aims to do is to say there is only one God when in reality, there is only one God worthy of worship because there are no other gods (or spiritual beings) like Him. Perhaps another higher order truth that doesn’t need to be taken literally, but I hold it is. Do with it what you will. Excellent discussion!!

Any attempt to write the greatest story, we inevitably capture the "structure of expirience." a story is built upon the main character. And the main characters purpose is to portray the structure of "character development." Analyzing "How to Train your Dragon Trilogy" captured the process of Carl Jung's Process of Individuation which blew my mind. From integrating the persona, encountering the shadow then integrating the shadow(1st movie), integrating the anima through the guidance of the wise old woman(2nd movie), to Individuation(3rd movie which i haven't fully articulated) i highly recommended it to anyone and jordan when yall brain dead at night like me all the time lol. Yes, well, the NT reminds slaves to give full respect to their masters. Don't forget, don't make it a projection of what you think it is.... it is what it says. It is the inspired and preserved word of God.
      1 Timothy 6:
*All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God’s name and our teaching may not be slandered.* 2 Those who have believing masters should not show them disrespect just because they are fellow believers. Instead, *they should serve them EVEN BETTER because their masters are dear to them as fellow believers and are devoted to the welfare of their slaves.*
^ *These are the things you are to teach and insist on. *3 If anyone teaches OTHERWISE and does not agree to the SOUND INSTRUCTION of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, 4 they are conceited and understand nothing.* They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions 5 and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.
6 But godliness with *contentment* is great gain. 7 *For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.* 8 But if we have *food and clothing*, we will *be content with that.* 9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you 14 to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which God will bring about in his own time-God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, *whom no one has seen or can see*. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.
17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
20 Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, 21 which some have professed and in so doing have departed from the faith.
      Grace be with you all.

Important distinction to make. The majority of Atheists are not so due to an ignorance of religion but to the contrary a deep understanding of religion. If you ask a true Atheist if there is a God they will say "I don't know." You may ask why. The reason is that while there is no evidence of God there is also no remarkable evidence of there not being one also. However, there are many things in the Bible as well as many other religious texts that are highly improbable. These books are a moral guide at best (depending on what you consider to be morally correct). And while there are some parallels between proven history and religious texts, many of the religious books tell stories of unrealistic feats.

But for example, a futuristic dystopian movie, it’s by genre definition a fiction; however it may point to some universal truths. Therefore the fiction it’s not synonymous of falsehood or lie. Because it’s not about intellect. That’s the great stumbling block of so many. It’s a truth that is way deeper than the levels of material thinking or even science. Now when you say that, you look like a fool because modern society has hoodwinked us into believing truth only comes from those things we can detect and measure. We should use our mind fully but truth and God is way bigger and deeper than anything in this dimension and the Bible penetrates into that truth in ways no other medium does. It’s utterly profound but only to those who have opened this connection with God. But it’s not channeling like some believe it’s actually a relationship with God like we are talking and listening now. We have to talk to God though and ask him and want to know him.. Most people won’t do that so that’s actually where the true issue is. And under that you reveal the true issue which is that we don’t want to know God because of our own pain (and sometimes ego)

The more I learn about science, the stronger my belief in God becomes.
The Bible doesn't have stories; it has recounts of what happened from the beginning. The words were breathed from God to Moses (who wrote the first 5 Books of the Bible).
The term "story" provides the connotation of being a fallacy, which is not the case in the Bible. As believers in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, we can not pick and choose which aspects of the Bible are the word of God and which elements are stories. The Bible provides the genealogy of Adam and Eve to provide a historical record. Why would a story trying to explain the creation need this? What purpose or benefit does this serve besides providing a historical record?
The Bible is a historical record of creation and the hardships faced by his chosen people and the ultimate sacrifice paid by Christ, his only son, who was born, died, and ascended into heaven so we may have a chance at eternal life. The Bible guides us to achieving eternal life and what is to come for man.

The belief that the stories of the Bible are literally true, not just metaphorical or hyperbolic, is a perspective held by many individuals and religious communities. However, it's important to note that interpretations of religious texts, including the Bible, can vary widely among different religious traditions and denominations. While some people take a literalist approach to the Bible, others interpret it allegorically, symbolically, or metaphorically.
The claim that historical documentation backs up the Bible beyond any doubt is a perspective that aligns with the faith-based belief in the historical accuracy of the Bible. It's true that certain events and places mentioned in the Bible have been supported by archaeological and historical evidence. However, the interpretation of these findings can be complex and may not always align with a strict literalist interpretation of the Bible.
Historians, archaeologists, and scholars often approach ancient texts and artifacts with a critical and evidence-based methodology. While some events in the Bible have been corroborated by historical and archaeological discoveries, other events remain a matter of faith and interpretation.
The diversity of interpretations and beliefs surrounding the Bible highlights the complexity of religious and historical understanding. It's essential to approach discussions about religious texts with respect for different perspectives and engage in open dialogue to foster understanding among individuals with varying beliefs.

It does have incredible historical evidence. Most people are not aware of the most cutting edge and newest archaeological finds.

I’m not interested in a subjective truth. Believing in something because it makes you feel good is silly. This is a huge blind spot for Jordan. He rails against a lot of the lunacy on the left with their subjective truths, but it absolutely OK with religion…

But it didn't. It made disingenuous points. The bible is meant to be the word of God. If you can't believe 'in the beginning', why believe any of it?

So does Jordan Peterson believe the sun orbits the earth I always thought him odd but also reasonably intelligent It's absolutely ludicrous to believe a being could create everything by uttering let there be ?

@@zbuchus If you ever get round to reading the bible the description is that of the Sun orbiting the Earth you know the sun rises and the sun sets and hastens back to where it rises so if you preach that the bible is right then yes you believe this and that everything came from nothing, two people could start the human race, oh yes and there was a world wide flood flood mind you it was the second one as the Sumerians had one a few hundred years earlier but Atra Hasis built the ark for that one.

so you read the Bible and did not get the message. When someone will say "get lost" you think he acctually wants you to be lost ? You still did not convience me in believing that nothing created everything and how this belief system is more rational for an inteligent person like you.

Jordan Peters on is a gifted 'thinker'! Many of the Greek myths and legends have their roots based in the powerful recorded truth events in the bible.
Therefore, it is so incredible that those who seek an opportunity to criticise and mock the bible are ironically doing so on the basis of themselves having FIRST BELIEVED the 'myth' to be merely fictional.

I will just point out here that the oral tradition of Greek myths is older than the Hebrew Bible. I would also like to point out the remarkable similarities between Greek myths and Bible stories. No doubt the latter borrowed heavily from the former.
Do with that truth what you will.
