They also talk about the intensive process of developing such emulation plugins like the ELKA-X, MERCURY-4 and DCO-106.

I enjoyed this interview so much. Dan is awesome. Been a fan of Cherry Audio for some time, own Voltage Modular, CA2600, and quite recently Elka X. Their stuff sounds so good and now I have more insight as to why. Much respect all round 🙏🏾

Such a great interview/discussion on the Synthex. Syntaur and Cherry Audio are a meeting of my two favorite sides of the analog synthesizer coin!

Thank you Dan for making me feel okay for having my dozen or so and growing synth collection. :) I’m glad to know that some synths land in great homes. 😍

Bet he’s the only one with a Synthex though. My all time favourite poly. Presets originally programmed by my friend Paul Wiffen back in the day. This synth blew me away when I played it at Martin Newcombe’s synth museum in England. Jarre’s Rendezvous made it popular

Getting quite a collection of Cherry Audio synths. Don't have the Elka-X yet, but so far the Mercury-4 is my favorite. Their 8 voice and Quadra are getting a lot of use too. Their 2600 is great, but I haven't used it that much yet. Love their Polymoog thing as well. Great video! Synth lovers unit and take over!

I own 7 of Cherrys synths and I've been amazed at how good and close they sound to the hardware. Elka X is my favorite poly synth period followed by the JUP-8 CS-80. Cheers...

Great interview! I love hardware but for most of these classics, the only way to be able to use them is via plug-ins. I have been a long time (mostly satisfied) Arturia V Collection user, but have been blown away by Cherry Audio's offerings recently. Currently using the Mercury 4 as a workhorse in my 80s cover band, and discovering the Elka X and GX-80 for original music productions in my home studio. Thanks!

They were not even that expensive back in the day, a few years ago there was talk of producing a batch of new ones from partly new old stock parts, a company was formed and everything. I was really pissed off when that did not happen.

I must say have been playing with the demo version of ELKA-X and am liking it... ☮🔥🎹 I have a Novation 49 SL MK 2 with automap software for my main midi controller... As far as hardware goes it's great like having all these different synths and all the other instruments with a mixer board on it... With vintage plugins from Cherry Audio I have some of these vintage plugins and it's like you might as well get them now while they are on sale... The presets alone are worth the $39 bucks... They are so cool and they are always updating them for free when you purchase them and I love my Voltage Modular synth was a free download and am planning on buying some more modules for it in the future... I have thoroughly enjoyed this episode of Talking Synths... Cheers... PS an Ensoniq SQ-80 with a lot of presets would make a cool plugin...

I COMPARED CHERRY AUDIOS VERSION WITH THE SAMPLED ELKA FROM UVI AND IN THE FAMOUS JARRE LASER HARP PRESET THE ONLY DIFFERENCE I HEARD WAS IN THE HIGHEST OCTAVES THE CHERRY AUDIO VERSION LACKED ATTACK OR BITE WHILE THE UVI VERSION HAD A NICE BITE OR ATTACK THAT MADE IT SOUND MORE REALISTIC ...

This new Elka X is amazing! Great job and cool video! And since repair is mentioned, Norway have at least two cool stories...best one is a repeairman that was knocked down for almost a day when opened and old classic that had a surprise - LSD...
Second one during one of a-ha s recording owner and a Waldorf Wave was stuck in a freight elevator that should down...

Good video, I just wish the (silent!) younger guy had got a word in; and the only hardware vs software example is so brief and quiet that it’s difficult to make any real evaluation. The ‘character’ of the Synthex could have been compared more as that’s why we buy emulations.

Has anyone ever heard of a patch bay synth that is polyphonic? And how about where the presets can come from memory storage instead of manually patching in cords all the time?

Yes! NI UVI Falcon ect are great but if you want the real sound of your favorite synth a good VST like Arturia Cherry Audio are far better at doing it besides $50 how can you loose.

What a great synth with a massive body.
I have one ELKA X705 (the "space organ") and I definitely know what he´s talking about mentioning those "300 pounds".
The Cherry Audio elka-x is worth a try.
Their Dreamsynth DS-1 didn´t disappoint me so I´m quite confident.
Thanks for the interview and all the best from Germany!

The crucial fact why the synthex didn't catch on is putting a chorus on a high end synth at that time , it is admitting that it sounded to flat without , just do an a/b test against a prophet of same 1981 with the chorus off on the synthex , dco was no match against the chorussy sound of real vco's.

I know I (and others) commented about this on your last video, but really....it looks really unprofessional to be grabbing and drinking coffee during the video. You can live without coffee for half an hour, just focus on producing a professional looking video. 1:24

I much enjoyed this. You guys are awesome. Does Dan really have the largest collection of synthesizers in the state of Nevada? It is said that there is a larger collection at the Groom Lake test facility in a vault deep underground. It is under heavy guard and includes an ARP 2500. Ha. 👽🪐🎹
