Alocasia babies are quite fragile. :( I've found that keeping them in a high humid and warm environment stops them from dying. And the. It gets older in 3 or 4 months I took the polly out.

Two tips, they can't sit in moist soil without basically dying (even though they do great in just water for whatever reason)only water when the soil is dry or use really REALLY chunky/woody soil. And they REALLY need to be heavily rootbound, they prefer it for some reason, keep them in smaller pots than you think makes sense.

Alocasias have very sensitive roots and every little tug and pull makes them scream and drop their leaves. Since knowing this info I usually skip the root cleaning part and just take the bundle with roots and substrate and repot it into slightly bigger one. Had no issues since then, I have an Amazonica as well she handled very repot like a champ. The only thing I do is I carefully steal some of their little knot babies but other than that I don’t touch the roots

I literally just saved one of these from my local grocery store yesterday my first alocasia the dark purple on the backs of her leaves give me LIFE 😍 right now mines a little sad looking as they had her in a BIRDHOUSE a I drainage holes, soaking wet just regular top soil ohh it’s so bad gotta get that girl in a chunky mix asap but want her to adjust to my home for a few days first but they had 4 of them do you know how hard it was not to take all 4 of his birdhouse planted babies lol 😂 but I stopped my self and took the best looking one so I have high hopes I hope one day she looks as good as yours!

I just reported my poly yesterday. It had 14 corms, most of which were trapped inside of the mesh bag of death. I definitely believe that the mesh added to the issues it was having, and I'm not sure anyone can convince me otherwise. Plants that have mesh bags always end up having issues for me until I repot and remove them.

This was great and to the point! Time for me to repot my Alocasias Regal Shield, Calidora, Polly, Black Velvet, Dragon Scale, and also my Colocasia (taro) plants… ✌🏽
Also, I have to PRAISE you for mentioning Bonide Systemic insect granules! Or maybe we shouldn’t tell anyone about it, before they go out & buy it all!! Lol! Thats my sh!t… and I need it on-hand 24/7, 365. Everybody complains about pests & I’m thinking, “wow, y’all don’t even know…?!” All watering their plants with mosquito bits, using sticky traps and all kinds of things, which are good but… I’ve been knowing about Bonide since 2007! 🤣 I noticed fungus gnats in a _Schefflera elegantissima_ pot that I had… the plant that looks like Mary Jane? haha. I was 21 y/o & knew nothing. So I went to the nursery, asked what they could give me to control fungus gnats. The lady told me Bonide systemic - and I’ve been able to have plants indoors ever since! Or outdoors without pests! It prevents everything! And is non lethal, non toxic and non damaging to nature. I know I sound like a damn commercial but it’s that effective.

Honestly I’m not even sure where I’m going wrong with mine!!! I need to invest in a humidity gauge. The leaves have been curling, edges yellowing, and the tips are crispy which makes me think it’s under watered. Overall she’s becoming less of that dark rich green and lighter. I mist every day/every other day bc there’s not very much humidity inside. It dropped like 5 or 6 leaves i was so sad! I gave her a good soaking and removed all of the dying leaves and she’s looking perkier. I hope she makes it, wish me luck!! You’re definitely the Alocasia queen! All your plants look so beautiful

She hated it she's been losing leaves and her leaves are yellowing... She couldn't push out new leaves, the tip blackened before it even made it out. She did give me one crom and I managed to get it to grow! I have a single leaf baby alocasia. Hopefully I won't kill it when I transition it into soil.
