- We explore Fort Totten as one of the best preserved military posts in America. Built between 1867 to 1873, this historic fort later served as a boarding school for Indian children, a tuberculosis preventorium, and finally, a community school. Now it is a State Historic Site.
One of the officers’ quarters has been converted into an inn, and you can even spend the night in one of the ten-period rooms.

This was really special. Enjoyed it totally.
I could spend all day exploring this place. Cool place. Thanks for sharing!
We did! We got there when it opened and left near closing! Great place to explore
Hello again, Andrea & Stephen! Fort Totten is truly a fantastic place to behold and to everyone who keeps it in such amazing condition congrats on your outstanding dedication and hard work! At 14:20, thank y’all for the “mention “ about the Axe! It makes me feel good to pass it on to someone else who I believe will enjoy it. Look forward to more. Keep Safe & Healthy!!!
We appreciate the sentiment Cary this was an incredible place to spend a day and the people who ran it were outstanding! Big fans of North Dakota!
Amazing video - thanks. The classroom brought back memories. At school in the 1940s - 50s, we had desks with inkwells (UK); we had dip-in pens, which made good darts. We also dipped wads of blotting paper in the inkwells and flick them at people with a wooden ruler. Sometimes we would put calcium carbide in the wells, which caused the ink to foam and you could set fire to the generated acetylene gas. Good old days! Thanks again Steve and Andrea.
😆 That is too much! Thanks Brian that sounds like you had some fun gave us a quite a good chuckle!
This video was done so professional. Good job and thank you for the tour. Very cool

Thank you so much. A night in the inn would be fascinating.
That was absolutely amazing. A brief, but awesome explore of out past. I'm with Steve on that dress Andrea. Can you imagine how long it must have taken to put it on? Poor Steve, i wonder.....Once many, many years ago, before my daughters were born, their mom was complaining that with twins we needed a bigger washer and drier. Well, that summer was her birthday and i decided to get her one. But of course Richard being Richard i had to make it a memorial occasion. Quietly i went down to the local appliance store and picked it out and set up the delivery date. They had washboards, tubs, clothes lines, even them new fancy big wooden alligator clips. So Richard being Richard, set it up. The timing was perfect. She was home and i was just pulling in the lane when that big delivery truck pulled in. Excitedly she ran to the truck and the boys told her they had a washer and drier deliver for her, and well, "Where do you want them ma'am?" She takes them in the house and this gives me time to get a photo bomb set up. Out the door they came, a huge smile on her face. Soon there's the sound of huffing and puffing, rattling and shaking and out the door they came with.........yep, you guessed it. The Super size scrub board, and the largest tub they had. The moment was shock and confusion, the look......priceless. They even tossed the clothes line and them big, wooden alligator clips at her feet. The color her face went, and her smile soon left as they carried everything into the house and began to go through the "instruction for use" terms and conditions. While they had her in the house my brother and i unloaded the real McCoy or wait i think it was a "Maytag". And guys and gals....I tagged her that day. Unforgettable! True story. Bet y'all are glad you're not up there today. 24-36 inches of snow. Brrr
That is absolutely priceless Richard would have loved to have been there for that! We seen on the weather North and South Dakota are ready to be hit with a large snow storm so yes we are glad to be in nicer weather. Can’t wait to get back up that way though!
@@PinInTheAtlas Yea, it does have its pretty spots. Maybe y'all can meet the Dino hunter up in the Bad lands. That would be awesome. Watching y'all dig for dino bones.
Steven, you are so right! Another wonderful place in North Dakota! During my Tuesday lunches I have visited so many grand sites in this state I know so little about. Thanks! Suggest you put some pins in your atlas for Nebraska. Lincoln - capitol housing the 1 and only unicameral in the US. And, where I live. Come by for lunch sometime. Gothenburg - Pony Express Station. Beatrice - Homestead Monument. Scott's Bluff and Chimney Rock in western Nebraska. Seward - the 4th of July town. Omaha - too much for this already too long comment. Fit us in when you can. Really enjoy traveling with you 2 and learning!
Thanks David. Nebraska is on the list and next time we’re up that way we’ll give you a shout. Thanks for all the suggestions. Please email us. info4pinintheatlas@gmail.com

Loved this episode. I've been to North Dakota many times and I have no idea how I missed visiting this fort. Sticking a pin in the atlas now.
ND has so much more to offer than people think. Glad we showed you another place to pin. The fort is certainly worth exploring Stan. More ND adventures to come.
That fort was really nice!!!! Maybe they put the ice in the top of the body ice box. Had to find this video in my subscriptions. I don't understand how i keep missing them. That was excellent! Thank you

See you next week.
You know fully well that Johnny is going to dip Becky's braid in his inkwell, and it doesn't matter how many times he writes it on that chalkboard. He's got his fingers crossed behind his back! ROTFL!
🤣
You both make a rather cute couple, who together work as a team and hope this channel and your adventures do not end, so with that being said please anyone who enjoys this channel, donate to gas or amazon wish list, items they have listed as needing. thanks all.
Thank you so very much. We have many more explores and adventures to come. And hope you enjoy all of them. Thanks for all your support
Very interesting place. As to strange things occuring. I do not know of any TB wards, or hospitals. Where such things do not occur. It was a terrible way to die.
We found it interesting too Ken. And yes, especially in those days.
My late husband Karl, was 6' 3 1/2" tall, and he thought the 1/2 inch was important too. I use to stand 5' 5 and 1/2, but the arthritis took two inches.
You’re husband was right. That 1/2 inch is very important. Both Steve and I have shrunk too. But we still stand tall.
@@PinInTheAtlas years later, I had a male friend who stood 6' 4", so he didn't have to add a extra inch. My second boyfriend was 6' 6", but gained a inch, becoming 6' 7" after we called it quits.

Awesome as usual! Did you and Mr. M receive packages?
Thank you. We left over a month ago we’ll contact him and see if it’s there.
At about 5,35 sec strange light as Andrea walks into theater lower right side ghost maybe HMMM.
Hadn’t noticed that Martin, will have to take another look! Thanks for the comment.
good job and trademark Andrea water bottle in her back pocket at 5 foot 1 and a 1/2 how does she do it. that's important thank you ALL stay safe
Dave. It’s 5 foot 3 and 1/2. And that 1/2 inch is very important 🤣
My wife wrote a note on what she wanted at Subway. to make sure I would get her order right she didn't go with me, I handed it to the person that was making the sandwich and he looked at me and said I can't understand that I never learned that language.... He said I was never taught that in school. It seemed odd to me. school is getting pretty weird.
It is weird. Did her sandwich get screwed up???
Both types of magazines cause explosions
🤣
My thought????????? Road trip.
You’ll love it Frank.
Nice travels however the "Boarding School " was in reality a abusive forced work camp for kids . The facts about these places should no be glossed over like much of our history . The kids there were just taken away from their parents and abused by beating and forced work . The Ice house where they were abused still has the names that the young girls scratched there . :)
Thank you for sharing.
Tax on windows 😲😲
Yes. They used to have a tax on window light. Crazy eh?
@@PinInTheAtlas watching other Urban explorers in Europe especially Great Britain apparently at one time and it may still be there's a rough tax that's why a lot of the homes large homes that no one wants a tear the roof off of course that's never good for the house. At least that's what I understand yeah if it walks talks or doesn't do anything at all a government will try and tax it. And then it's still never enough 😢
Having guidelines for your comment, section seems ridiculous to me. But then again, there are lotta fragile people out there. Think I’m going to pass on this channel.
