  • This week we invited Master Wong to discuss his approach on how to fight and use Wing Chun.
If you’re the last person on the planet not to have heard about the Master Wong System then check out his RUclips Channel: / 138mws
We started off with a brief discussion on how to avoid fights by using a little humour while taking control of the space between you and the person trying to intimidate you.
We quickly moved on to dealing with the guy in your face, and lastly addressed common fan questions about Wing Chun in general.
Remember there is more to learning how to fight. You must learn how to punch, how to move well if you want to end a fight quickly. Better yet learn a martial art, or a good form of self defence, and most importantly build your fitness. After all, if all fails then you can run very fast from any fight.
We have lots more videos on how to fight with Wing Chun. Please visit our channel. Better yet feel free to leave a comment or a suggestion of what you would like us to film for you. It does not have to be about Wing Chun it can be about any subject related to fighting, how to fight, Wing Chun techniques, or even Wing Chun vs other styles of martial arts. We are happy to pass on our knowledge and experience free of charge.

Groot That wasn't defusing at all and he was already preparing to fight.

      Screamin Mime
It's going to escalate as soon as you touch somebody they're going to tell you not to touch them and try to knock your arms away. They also now have legal ground to defend themselves.... As soon as the cops arrive all they have to say is he put hands on me first. Physical contact wins over personal space so you're probably going to jail and might get sued later win or lose. Blading feet in relaxed cat stance and keeping one hand across your chest and the other close to the chin and talk. It gives you the best chance for evasion and getting your guard up the quickest way without being squared up or being seemingly hostile.

If you react to being touched passively like that with violence that would be disproportionate and would not be considered self defense.
Often in environments where alcohol is served, especially in nightclubs where people have to be in close proximity to each other to hear each other speak, but in general drunken people are more prone to arm touching and hugging, high fives, that sort of behaviour, its weird when a stranger does it so you might find yourself doing what master wong did and sort of checking the hug and laughing a bit, but if someone is relaly coming at you aggressively but not attacking yet, and there are all sorts of scenarios but this is a common one, the old chest push, where someone walks towards with their chest out and trys to push you back to challenge you to fight, its a stupid move but people still do it.
Ive seen it a few times, Ive had the old throat grab too, where someone just grabs you by the throat after you ask them why they are out in the car park yelling randomly.
I quickly put an end to that one, no harm no foul lol

I've have Done boxing and always thought this form of martial arts was very interesting. From my point of view I totally agree. If you put your chin out someone who can box will look for it. At the same time the neck strikes will take you down just as quickly. The most informative part of these videos is the arm control of your opponents from my experience and these videos. People who are truly trying to learn. Take what they say seriously. Because this information will without a doubt help out maybe save you. Great work and much respect for your helpful and videos 🤜🤛

This approach can definitely work..sometimes a bit of compassion or kindness can calm things down...earlier today I saw a guy acting aggressive in my local deli. He didn't have enough money to buy a drink and was pissed off. I walked in asked him what the problem was and bought him the drink. He immediately calmed down and was super grateful. So throwing hands isn't always the best option

Two of my favorite fight instructors...
Sometimes talking works, but sometimes a guy who is agitated may not be open to ‘humor’ and may think you’re poking fun at him instead. And, if he’s been drinking, his thought processes may even be fewer or slower, and he functions on anger and instinct.
The comment about the head up, Master Wong is (of course) right. Your body follows your head; wherever your head goes, your (connected) body follows. So, your chin up and head up, back you go.

So glad that the wing chun world has adopted the sense to tuck the chin when fighting. I realized this many years ago when I took a break to pursue mma for a while - and actually argued with wc people about it.
There are some legit chinese medicinal/body mechanics reasons why we perform siu nim tao with the head up. You see it also in Chi Gong, Tai Chi, other CMA's, but the forms were NEVER meant to be taken literally! I describe the postures and shapes in the forms as "defaults", and the majority of movement falls in between the defaults sort of like connecting the dots. These microsecond transitions are where the variables are infinite so we have to do the best we can to stay safe in them (hands up, chin down etc).
Good on you guys for bringing this up.
Of course, I agree with others that maybe master Wong isn't the guy to go to for de-escalation techniques; )

funny how he said the camera is watching but just like that he became the "aggressor".....i would totally be like: " MAN!! GET YO MOFO HANDS OFF ME!!" it's on camera.....
    *update*
I JUST KNEW HE WOULD TELL MASTER WONG: "HEY, MATE, KEEP IT CLEAN...." bwhahaha

That dialogue seems pretty self explanatory to me. I don't understand your confusion. To phrase it differently.
He makes a neutral positive comment about the aggressor's significant other, says they are good together, and he is not interested.

I was hoping to hear a one-liner or too that would help defuse a situation. Also, If someone is being confrontational I don't think placing your hand on their chest or grabbing their arms is a good idea. Also, as Master Wong pointed out about cameras being everywhere, as soon as you put your hand on his chest you committed assault. Assault def.= any unwanted touch.
    Thumbs down on this one.

Well, the best way always is to say something like "Sorry, man, I didn't mean any disrespect!" and probably proceed with "You, got me wrong," and "anything I did was completely unintentional" and if that doesn't do it, just smack the guy in the face!

The Bardbarian , stay just out of range , wait to grab and like hulk , smash, thrown into anything stuns , espically if mauled like a bear on seal , kodiak on deer, wait is key , size in aggressor could commit in Wasabi, over before start
