Just Brilliant. Anyone who doesn't find this funny needs a chill pill. Always loved this series, and the original Till Death. Brilliant line up as always. But Spike steals this show. He was a naturally funny man. 🤣🤣🤣 Love watching Una Stubbs in this clip. She looks like she is just enjoying watching Spike. 👌
What makes me laugh is the PC police who say that Spikes character is racist. They don't realise that Spike was the inspiration for the character Packy Paddy. He was born in India and of Irish decent.
The brilliance of the show was it highlighted the hypocrisy of society at the time. People suddenly trealised they were an Alf or not. Incrdfibly funny show and Warren Mitchell was brilliant. Spike as the Pakistani brilliant as always.
@@JamesRichards-mj9kw to say it increased racismnis unfounded what it did for the majority of society was highlight the hypocrisy or double standards within society. The audience they were aiming at which were the less informed working and middle class did look upon Alf's rhetoric as humourous rather than the stupidity of Alfs character. Society was evolving rapidly and needed many of the comedic shows to highlight the bigotry within it. It certainly opened people's eyes.
@@patomalley55 The BBC had to suppress a report in 1973 which showed the series was increasing racism in the UK. My grandparents absoluteley LOVED the series, because they were members of the National Front. Children were often attacked in schools as a direct result of the racist series.
Well you've answered the question. Members of a nationalist organisation would adopt such a view and not see the parody. Alf character was a parody. An east ender of Jewish heritage which he rejected, whilst defending individual freedom but denying it to others. The same as many sitcoms they did parody various races as characterised within it at the time. We recognize those characters and laugh accordingly not at the race but the characters failings. So the diversity within society will always exist but it's understanding will evolve.
What people of today do not realise is that this was produced at a time when British attitudes and prejudices toward race were being seriously challenged for the first time. The "older generation's" idea that white was supreme and black or other colour was inferior was being attacked by comedy writers and shows such as Till death do us part and Love thy neighbour did not support racism as it appears on first glance. Quite the opposite, I remember watching this sketch and it made me think how utterly vile, stupid and out of date racist attitudes were and how racist behaviours affected those to whom they were directed. Comedy played a big part in "education" in its broadest sense and showed people the absurdity and evil of racism.
True, I know pakistani's that would find this funny, but perhaps in a different way to brits. Unfortunately it takes intelligence to see that every race has its traits and we all laugh cynically at each other, it's the human condition its not hatred. Spike and Warren highlighted the hypocracy of the few and lit up the lives of the many
And unfortunately it's resulted in a number of people in this country agreeing with Alf Garnett and laughing with him not at him and in general completely missing the point of the show and character
@@masterknife8423 Maybe just maybe it's because of the hundreds of thousands of white working-class girls of the North who have been r*ped by them. Still, who cares about them, main thing is not to upset the ethnics, right?

IMO you can't compare Spike Milligan and Warren Mitchell.
