Was that route the Tremola Road ("Tremolastraße")? I've never motorbiked in Europe, let alone Swiss Alsp. My examination of the Gottard pass in Google maps shows three ways to go: 1) the tunnel, 2) a newer surface road and 3) an old stand of linguini called the Tremola. Wow. Cobblestones! Quite the afternoon! Thank you for the video. I'm enjoying them all, when I get the time.

Hi Sean. I don't know much about the pass. I think there are two tunnels, one old and one new, and the old cobblestone pass. Tremola is north of this, but still a part of the pass. The north side of the pass was closed, and my plan was to continue on the Furka pass anyway.

Yes, this is the Tremola. There is a newer road that parallels it across the valley - you can see its snow sheds at around the 17 minute mark. They diverge just a bit up from Airolo and come back together at the 29 minute mark. In addition to these two older roads, there is an auto tunnel that runs from Goschenen (just north of Andermatt) to Airolo. There is also an older rail tunnel that pretty much parallels the auto tunnel (actually, the auto tunnel parallels the rail tunnel) and a new rail Basis Tunnel that runs much deeper from Erstfeld to Bodio. All in all, this is, and has been, one of the more important crossing points through history. There's a nice museum at the top that illustrates the history of the area.

Hi, We are heading up to Lucerne from Lake Como 24th of June this year. Just concerned Gothard pass is closed, what time of year did you record this video. It is extremely useful thanks

I think this was about 8th, 9th or 10th of June 2015. Northern part of the pass was closed. I just drove to Hospental and turned left on the Furka pass (James Bond Strasse, from Goldfinger) and then the Grimsel pass to Interlaken. I went to Bern after Interlaken, but you can also go to Lucerne. There are some web sites with information about open and closed mountain passes, but I do not remember them...
Remember to pay highway fee if you're going any highways in Switzerland. I didn't know about it until I was in Germany. Was not stopped by the police, but I hear that it is expensive. Better to pay a few CHFs than a few hundres CHFs.
      Have a nice trip!

Scanbiker Thank you very much. We'll checkout the website for passes. Also I understand the Vignette you buy is for motorway use. We will try and avoid those at all costs. Last time I got one it was 42 euros.
Really enjoyed your uploads gave us a great insight to what go expect. ( especially the wife! 😖)
