I remember it well. I was the one actually driving the train that day, with Mr.Ackenthorpe-Hall as my co-pilot. Just a few seconds before the crash, the train's HyperDeltic Forcefield Indent Alarm (mk4) sounded, alerting me and my co-pilot that some good-for-nothing Reliant owner had engaged his Colour-Cycling-Field-Changer and was about to attempt a last minute acceleration over the open crossing at Milchester. Luckilly we engaged our Robin-Rotatorrater-Buffer-Basher just in time. Phew !!
yeah, made in the UK by a now defunct firm called "Reliant". they were popular with people who grew up in the immediate postwar period and only had a bike license, which is all you need to drive a 3 wheeler
There is a camera control on the gates. Which did the filming. Also the vehicle was a Rialto. I've owned a Robin now for 30 years. Better than the mick takers think by a long way. Because of the lightness of the car at the front enabling the train to push it out the way, my bet is that it could be drive away with only the front A frame having a slight twist that would tip the wheel over to the right. Have fun. Dave
@Coldwinterful Bucknell, Shropshire. The station buildings would have hidden the train from the Reliant driver - all the more reason to pay attention to the lights!
This is true. A 75 year old is 3 times more likely to be killed in a car accident than a 23 year old. While younger drivers may drive recklessly some of the time, old drivers reaction times are slow all of the time.
LMAO at the dude in the bottom screen, just watches and walks off ! then the dude just gets out of his car and checks the engine to blame the car for his mistake !
There was a problem with the time space continuum. That's why he didn't stop, reds and blues kept trading places. He must of been seriously disoriented.
Reliant cars were stronger than you think. Look how it bounced off the train with little body damage! a small steel car would have buckled up under the train.
Probably one of the few times a Reliant 3-wheeler is "safer" than a regular car!!! wiltshirebloke - the car is Reliant Robin (a Rialto in this) - NOT Robin Reliant
Now where did I leave my white stick ? ah, I know, under the bonnet. You get hit by a train then check the engine (to make sure it's still in one piece)! Fucking priceless, this man ought to do the world a favour, surrender his licence and buy a bus pass !
It's interesting that they've now largely done away with this type of gateless crossing, due to people not seeing the lights. I wonder if the old gent could see the lights, due to the sun? The shadows suggest that the sun was overhead at the time, so it shouldn't have been a problem. All the same; we are better off without this dangerous type of crossing.
Well, yeah, but it's because modern cars are designed to crumple, so the force of the impact that would otherwise be destined for you is absorbed by the car. Many years ago, (1920s or so) they used to safety test cars by rolling them down hills, and I mean sideways, not on their wheels. They assessed them by the damage that was done to them. Of course, if the car is as rigid as a block of concrete, you're the one going to be bouncing around like a pinball inside.
claasic example of bad eyesight he could not see the redlights and hearing coud not hear any warnings etc I am sure many many people drive around with bad eyesight...frightening
VERY lucky and VERY VERY stupid to drive through red lights. I don`t understand why ungated crossings (or half barrier crossings) still exsist. They are just inviting people to take a chance. Rediculous cost & maintenence cutting no doubt. :o(

I love how his first reaction is to check the engine.
and he WASNT wearing a high visabillity jacket
It is surprising how tough the robin is!
...and now another one is leaving the UK to the US, and maybe more. I love them.
By the way, this is a Rialto, not a Robin.
0:28 "ooops...do di do di do....yup engine still there"
:D
0:36
Guy goes, "Hey, you know that blinking light right there idiot?..."
im impressed with how awesomely fast the train came to a complete stop
Apparently it still started and drove home. If only today's cars had such class.
Today’s cars have no character and no class
@@underneonloneliness2 i want to bring them back into production
yeah, made in the UK by a now defunct firm called "Reliant". they were popular with people who grew up in the immediate postwar period and only had a bike license, which is all you need to drive a 3 wheeler
the train stops actualy quite fast considering it weighs tons and tons!
Towards the end
"Answer that phone, price of tea" and mutters away incoherently...
This was a very lucky old man, just a few milliseconds later, and the train would just got him in the middle of the Reliant :-(
WOW, a perfect 90 degres turn very fast in a reliant robin!
HOW!!!?!?!?!?!?

*old guy gets out* "I guess we better swap insurance"
*conductor* " shut up old man"
The RR clearly won! :D
It's like the camera that caught the footage of this was on shrooms !
This is true. A 75 year old is 3 times more likely to be killed in a car accident than a 23 year old. While younger drivers may drive recklessly some of the time, old drivers reaction times are slow all of the time.
The safest way to make a sudden turn in a reliant robin.
Holy crap how lucky was he... and he just goes and checks the engine.. the first thing i'd have done is gotten away from the rails.. lol
@badbob1983
exactly, it wasnt his fault the lights werent working, if that was me there would be a big compo claim.
this is why they should be a physical bar going down on ALL train crossings, but to save money people have to die.
For fuck sake I didn't see that train coming in from the left either, I don't think it was the mans fault.
if he would've missed the train he would've probably got damage anyway, because he would roll over in that turn at that speed xD
LMAO at the dude in the bottom screen, just watches and walks off ! then the dude just gets out of his car and checks the engine to blame the car for his mistake !
I love the nonchalant passer by pointing at the lights
There was a problem with the time space continuum. That's why he didn't stop, reds and blues kept trading places. He must of been seriously disoriented.
I love the way all trains seem to stop just after the crossing...
Reliant cars were stronger than you think. Look how it bounced off the train with little body damage! a small steel car would have buckled up under the train.
A car that can survive trains crash's and change color, I want one!
hmm i dont think the signal lights on the crossing were working so its the railway operators fault and not the driver
He wasn't wearing a high visibility jacket. That's why he crashed!
Probably one of the few times a Reliant 3-wheeler is "safer" than a regular car!!!
wiltshirebloke - the car is Reliant Robin (a Rialto in this) - NOT Robin Reliant

The problem of the car is the red-blue flashing varnish. It was confusing the train engineer.
@dummyspitter Actually, he resets the catch before closing the bonnet, which was knocked open at 0:17
An brillant driver guy...
as soon as I retire I'm giving up driving.
The Oldman "Oh why the hell did my engine stop? Maybe i have to check the oil"
This clip was featured on season 9 of TopGear
Thats how Chuck Norris turns his car!
and when you make a turn its just roll over great car!
No it doesn’t
IT CHANGES COLOURS!
the engines in the back ;)

why wernt the lights flashing? it wasnt the old mans fault cos the lights were broke
I'd have thought about 60mpg tops, but then I've never owned one. now, a robin with a small DIESEL engine in would make a great economy car
@petrutzgabriel THANK YOU Pet for those kind words I thought I was going senile ....stupid is sooooo much better XX
poor old bugger didn't see the red lights
Damn old people!!
He gets out an checks the engine. HAHAHA!
My car is red..NO BLUE...Red again..BLUE...Ooh, I can't decide
i like the camelion paint
Well, yeah, but it's because modern cars are designed to crumple, so the force of the impact that would otherwise be destined for you is absorbed by the car.

im shocked. i thought the sheer power of the 5l V8 engine in the robin wud have powerhoused past the train...
*checks under hood*
Damn. It still works.
@12345JJBB I guess it is because it was a 2 car train and not a massive 40 car train.
I would be checking my pants for skid marks!!!
yes,and it will also do 100mph,but not at the same time!
So he crashes into the train. He does nothing/doesn't react, before he checks his engine is ok, and THEN he thinks of going up to the train...!
LOL!
and old people get better insurance rates than us younger people... well what does everyone else think?
Someone is VERY lucky.
wow , that guy was lucky !
a train cant tip it over, but mr. bean can.
hmmm...
blue or red robin?=
lol that car got flat out PWND!
The biggest problem here is that he wasn't even wearing a high-visibility jacket!
lol the man gets off the car and checks the engine, he should have pinched himself in the arm to make sure he was alive.
Better than that, Mr. Bean was driving the train!
It's not a gated level crossing.
He's lucky he lives in Britain. If the driver's seat was on the other side he's be dead.
uuuuuufffff.....
Almost...
rs
Wow! Talk about a color blind camera.
Why aren't the Level Crossing lights flashing when the train approaches?
The lights were broken that’s why he crashed into the train
Train v reliant:
Train wins
0.17 reliant robin changes color
why the signal off?
I bet you Mr. Bean was in the train lol
I know! this really bugs me as well. same type of people who call the big V8 Rover hatchbacks "SDi"
@12345JJBB The train was only doing 12 mph, having just left a station.
what a spack ;)
This is why the elderly should be made to take sight and reaction tests every year if they want to drive.
it knocked the colours round
claasic example of bad eyesight he could not see the redlights and hearing coud not hear any warnings etc I am sure many many people drive around with bad eyesight...frightening
@GargantulaKon Yaeh, thats probably right, I didnt even notice the first time but yeah
biedny staruszek... : (
Red means stop if he had been a few seconds forward i think it would have killed him by the way where was this filmed
if you pause at the right moment it turns blue. or does if turn red?
what cracks me up is 1 the old guy on foot carries on walking and 2 why dose the old git get out and check his engine???????????????...LOL
only the driver had his money down on the reliant!!!!
ME TOO!
man he is so fucking lucky
your welcome :)
hahaha it was changing colors
that could have been a lot worse than what it was
Now that was really bad timing. Poor little car. Only one wheel in front?
the best part of the video? he looked under the hood.
VERY lucky and VERY VERY stupid to drive through red lights.
I don`t understand why ungated crossings (or half barrier crossings) still exsist. They are just inviting people to take a chance.
Rediculous cost & maintenence cutting no doubt. :o(
There about 15000 pounds for one set of barriers and there are over 800 level crossings in Britain
