I prefer the Rankins. I have a pair of them since september as my first lizards (my reptile experience so far has been pond sliders, including a female I have for 29 years). My Rankins were alredy 3.5 yeas old when I got them and already paired. They are great, very tame and like being petted (especially the male, he accepts everything), when taken out they do often become active and crawl all over me. They are kept in a 100x50x50cm terrarium (sorry we don't know inches, feet and gallons in mainland Europe :) ).
I went specifically for Ranking because of their size. Its the personality of a regular beardie in a small package. And it allows me to keep a pair, and I like to see them interact with each other.
Rankins are very underrated and many people don't even know they exist.
Video's about small lizards often only name Crested gecko, Leopard Gecko etc, whereas the Rankins is a great alternative to them. A lot more fun in my opinion as they are day active.
Aside from the size I also prefer the appearance of the Rankins. Their beard is also very soft to touch. My male does actually inflate it sometimes to show its dominance.

That’s awesome! I have always loved rankins and always thought they never got the recognition they deserve! Like you said most people have never even heard of them, I’ve been keeping them for about 5 years now and have have over 100 babies. Trying to get them out there more as they are a great smaller alternative to a beardie or iguana with an awesome personality!

I was never a huge fan of bearded dragons until I saw a baby bearded dragon in real life. He was so cute and curious! I thought to myself: "if only he stayed this small forever, I would consider it. " You can imagine my surprise when I found out Rankin's dragons exit! I also prefer Rankin's "beardless" appearance over bearded dragon's, too, so that's a bonus.

Do you by chance have a care guide for Rankins? I am trying to prepare for one but am struggling to find details of their necessities. Supplements and amounts, exact lighting requirements, substrate, ECT

The little guy is so stinkin' CUTE!!!
I'd better not let my beardie know I said that...
I had 2 male beardies (babies, one was supposed to go to my niece) in a pretty large viv.
My boy treated the smaller/younger guy like a little brother.
Would let him sit on his back for basking, and even "swam" (water wasn't deep but he did a "half swim/half walk" type movement) to him in the bath, stuck his head under the little guy and put him on his back before settling in the water.
I had a flat rock in the sink with them & Toofie rested his front limbs & head on the rock keeping them both submerged.
Sadly the little guy passed & Toofie mourned for about week or 2, looking for his "brother" every day.

That’s awesome! I love beardies too! It’s one reptile I’ve always had in my 20+ years of keeping reptiles. I currently have two adults and about 25 babies.

There's actually no maximum size for an enclosure, regardless of age/size. You just want to give them plenty of enrichment to get lost in their enclosure. Better to buy their forever enclosure right away, and just have proper husbandry.

depending on the animal there is definitely a max enclosure size for babies/juveniles as they can get easily stressed out in too much open space unless you have the entire enclosure filled with rocks, branches, hollow logs, etc. and for most people that is not going to happen, so it is easier to start with a smaller enclosure for the first year then go up to their full size enclosure.
