      All of the turtles and tortoises are in temporary winter enclosures, they can’t stay outside year round here in upstate NY. They all have larger enclosures outside during the warmer months when they are more active.

    There's actually no maximum size for an enclosure, regardless of age/size. You just want to give them plenty of enrichment to get lost in their enclosure. Better to buy their forever enclosure right away, and just have proper husbandry.

    • @the-reptile-haven
      @the-reptile-haven Месяц назад

      depending on the animal there is definitely a max enclosure size for babies/juveniles as they can get easily stressed out in too much open space unless you have the entire enclosure filled with rocks, branches, hollow logs, etc. and for most people that is not going to happen, so it is easier to start with a smaller enclosure for the first year then go up to their full size enclosure.

      @the-reptile-haven 3 месяца назад

      Thank you so much! Leo’s are great pets! Are you getting a baby or adult? they are really easy, just make sure their enclosure is kept warm, lots of hiding spots and decor for them to explore, change it up once in awhile to give them some enrichment with a new environment. I leave a dish of mealworms in their at all times so they can eat when they want, then supplement with crickets, roaches or superworms once a week.

    • @the-reptile-haven
      @the-reptile-haven 3 месяца назад

      I have been keeping and breeding bearded dragons for over 20 years and have always kept my dragons in groups of 1:1 or 1:2 and have never once had any issues. You just need to make sure you never have more than one male in an enclosure and have a second enclosure incase the females don’t get along, which I have never had happen. You need to make sure all dragons have their own hides, plenty of basking places, and visual barriers.

    I don’t think chameleons have chromatophores they have something different and they definitely use their color in the wild to hide Just sometimes better for colorblind animals Where we might see them to other animals they are invisible

    • @the-reptile-haven
      @the-reptile-haven 4 месяца назад

      They don’t actually change their color to match their surroundings, their natural color does tend to blend into the colors they live in, but they can’t consciously change their color to match what is around them. They get darker when they are cold or stressed and get brighter when they are warmer and “ happy” for lack of a better word.
