  • The loco I was running on the freight train was a Boston & Maine GP9 known in B & M language as a "Bluebird". They were rarely run heading local freights. They were used for Mainline freight service in consists of four or more such as through the Hoosac Tunnel on the route from Mechanicville NY to Boston, Mass. and the north south route along the Connecticutt River into Canada. I have another one of these Athearn locos which I haven't consisted with its mate yet. B&M ran these from about the late 1950s thru the early 1980s or quite a while. They had 50 GP9s. They suited the old track the New England terrain which is pretty hilly and therefore sharp curves etc. Relatively speaking the trains were not that long, though much longer than my train on Saturday.
