As I'm studying games programming at university I have always fantasised about the idea of working for Kojima Productions, either as an intern or as a full time job at the London or Japanese headquarters. Seeing these Devs talk about their job at the company only fuels these dreams even more.

    • @SariennMusic73
      @SariennMusic73 Год назад +13

Right on! Don't let ANYTHING or ANYONE take that dream and goal from you. Don't even let your inner voice (if it ever gets pessimistic) take it from you.
You have the goal set. And you WILL reach it.
During the times when it'll get difficult and you feel like "why even bother? I'll never get to... Blah blah...", I'll be cheering you on. I'll give you the strength to keep on keeping on. (well, the best that I can, at least 😅).
Just knowing someone on this sometimes fucked up planet has your back and has full faith in you will keep driving you to your goals.
Yeah, it WILL get difficult af now and then. It's just how life IS. But when those days come, know it'll always get better. And always remember this:
      You got this.
      It don't got you.
I'll shish now before this turns into a novel, but allow me to say one final thing:
I can't WAIT for the day I see your name in the credits of a future Kojima game. I'm HYPED for you 👍🏼😎

I hope you're able to strive towards your goals just the same :-)

Another protip: If you ever find yourself overwhelmed by the skill disparity between you and other programmers, remember that the actual bar for being a programmer is so low that any moron can find a job with a decent salary in this field. You don't need to become an expert at 10 different languages to get hired by a studio. I say this because I see too many students panic when they compare themselves to the top 5% of the field "I'll never become anywhere near as good as him, why did I even bother" and all this pessimistic crap.

A heads up to viewers forming an opinion on Japanese companies based on this video: this is not the way the majority of companies in Japan treat their employees.
More often than not, work-life balance is non-existent, so much so that in fact there is no word in Japanese for "work-life balance": they have to borrow the term from English because the concept is completely alien to them.
Family is considered as secondary to work, and employees are evaluated on the basis of how much time they spend at the office, not on the quality of their work. And that's just to give you a couple of pointers.
Kojima productions may be great; I do not know. But this is not the way Japanese companies roll, and if you take a job in Japan without doing your due diligence based on the tale told by this video, you are in for a big surprise.

There's a good (but fucking horrible) reason why too many SalaryMen end up offing themselves. Istg it's like 18 hr work days, can't leave til the boss does, then it's almost required to go drinking with boss and/or coworkers after work.
Poor people end up sleeping on the train or on the sidewalks just due to total and complete mind and body exhaustion. There IS no work/life balance.
      It's just work, work, work.
Ive heard though (and God I hope it's true) that the newer gens aren't liking that work work fact and are trying to/starting to change it slowly. I think once all the old school workers and bosses retire, we'll see a big change in the 'Total Work = What Life Is' current way of living (not living, actually).
I'm GLAD Hideo isn't subscribed to that reprehensible way of living. I'm not even sure if it's "living to work" or "working to live", but it's absolutely "working to work" and something has to give.
Humans are not robots. Keeping oneself at the "always on" mode DOES soon force the "off" switch and for too many, it's a permanent off.
Hell, it's not even survival when it's nothing but work, work, work 18/24.

      Not really.
Kojima games always had extensive credits for people who worked on it. The problem is that people don't really look past the big titles and then claim that it's just Kojima.
Kojima has the roles of director, producer, writer and designer and is known for being involved in every aspect of his games. People just clown on him because of how his name is everywhere but don't really want to understand how he works with everyone and is also responsible for the praise and the criticism of the entire project.
