Why Would You Vinyl Wrap A Car?

- Another big question! Why would you vinyl wrap a car? There are countless statements from people who believe that vinyl wrap cheapens the exterior of a vehicle and that it's overpriced so I felt the need to do a video explaining "why".

Bro I learned how to rap by looking at your vids. I even get compliments about how well done my car looks. Thank you man💯
Thank you for the time you take in teaching as you wrap. My dad and I watched many of your videos and learned through your instructions. We decided to wrap our golf cart using Vvid carbon fiber look. Although we are nowhere near experts like you, we are very happy with the results, our cart looks great and people keep asking about it on the course!
After watching hours of a wrap videos I decided to buy some vinyl and try wrapping my rear taillights. In my first attempt I was able to wrap the one of my lights but it could have been better. You are truly a master with a heat gun and understanding how the product stretches. There is no amount of videos that can teach the "feel" of the craft and unless you do it. So I ordered more to do it again until I get it right. The Pro's make their craft look easy. Thank you for giving me the confidence to try.... but you should put in a disclaimer.... Do not try this at home unless you order extra vinyl LOL
You are correct, it's great for protection. You can also more easily color change when bored. Wraps are a great choice for most people, and even I like them. That said, they came a long way, but they still cannot compete with great paint. Even factory paints like Mazda Soul Red. Let alone I painted one of my cars in a House of Kolors true Kandy Apple Red over a super fine silver metallic base with tint coats mixed in, and I have yet to see to this very day a better red paint job or finish. It's forever burnt into my mind it was that amazing.
But... I'm going to be honest about something else now. The price of vinyl wraps, both material wise, and what people charge to install them is now out of hand. Unless you know someone, or get someone new and establishing, or best yet, do it yourself, stuff is out of control price wise overall.
Thank You for helping me learn to wrap my own car. I don't do it professionally, but have learned a lot from your instruction.
Great point here! Great videos! Keep it up!
This guy is the reason I was able to wrap my own car and learn how to do taillights and headlights as well, I’m also looking to get into the industry and being certified. In addition I will choose wrap over paint any day because it’s easy to maintain and installation requires no bs sanding priming waxing and mixing of paint and sealing putting clear coat on all of that crap that painting requires and with wrap you can do any combination of colors you want without all that paint mixing.
Just began wrapping my car. You make it look SO MUCH EASIER than it is lol but your videos have been an absolute godsend. My cuts ain't perfect but this wrap should last.
I wrapped my own car thanks to you. Now I wouldn't say it is a good job but I'm happy for my first attempt.
I've learned so much from watching you. I will say it's not as easy as it looks. I detail horse trailers and you would think these big flat areas are simple........wrong! What I'm really having a problem with is the darn rivets.
But here is my question.....
What's the point of wrapping a vehicle, and the wrap is not scratch, shopping cart, rock chip or debris proof???
I'll take paint because it has been shown to be wayyyyy more durable and if paint is "dead", what do you call a wrap that only "lasts" 5 years?
This is not meant to be disrespectful to you Mr. CK. I just don't understand.
Hello! I’ve been going through your videos and I’m seeing if you could do a updated version of washing and prepping the car before the wrap thank you!
Bro , i like a lot youre videos can you make a video on removing old wrap and glue residue and present the products, ty keep up the good work ✌
My boy killing it… IPunchKidz here
Out of everything he said ... to me getting the unique color you want is the best reason to wrap your vehicle. For example, Chevy Silverado comes in a limited amount of colors.
I chose wrap, 4 years later, its wearing down and i have to do it again or just paint it once for 20 years
Hey. Question, I get stick marks like on scotch tape on my wrap once I peel it back to get to bubbles out, is that the quality of the product or because I didnt use any solution besides alcohol? Thanks . From all the videos Ive seen, yours are the best, and I mean it. Very thorough break downs and step by step. 👍❤️
Gracias por el contenido 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽🔥🔥🔥🔥🙏🏼❤️❤️❤️saludo desde PR 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷
Hey love the channel and your videos have helped me a lot with learning how to wrap , forever thankful to you 🙏 quick question I have wrapped my car in vvivid matte attack grey and wanted to know what would be the best cleaner to wash it at my hose with a hose ? Thankyou 🙏
I know you asked a long time ago...but chemical guys make a matte foam soap and matte detail spray. I use it on mine and love it
How long should you leave a car wrapped?
Hi, I bought vvivid gloss black to wrap my roof but I had an incredibly hard time doing it, ended up giving up because I could never get it flattened out without wrinkles. When you layed the vinyl it was almost perfect from the beginning, how is it that my wrap was so wrinkly and hard to work with?
How long can you leave a wrap on before it becomes difficult to remove or risks damaging the paint?
What's up bud,I have a question for you is it considered lazy when people don't take body panels off to do a wrap?my girlfriends car was wrapped and they didn't take panels off when it's so easy and you could see paint in panel crevices and the edges would lift up,im thinking of getting wrapped but am nervous now, thanks for videos aswell I enjoy watching them
I want to wrap my car because paint matching on bumpers is awful these days. Both of my bumpers look like they belong on a different car. Instead of repainting the whole thing I figured I'd have some fun and get it wrapped.
Hey man, question.. what type of UV protection spray would you recommend?
Please help... I have a 01 firebird bright red... just want to wrap hood in red with carbon fiber strips...how can I match the red on the rest of the car? Is there a place to get small samples for matching? Or is the bright red close enough? Thanks for any help from you or your followers...🙂
How long do you think timybots vynil will last over it's lifetime on a vehicle
If your paint is bad, your wrap over it will look bad. Maybe spending big money for custom/flashy paint jobs is dying out, but there will always be a need for paint. The point about retaining value with wrapping vs. repainting is big tho.
what if all the body work is done and it’s primered only? or does paint play a major role on how the wrap look regardless?
If you paint over bad paint then it will look terrible. But if you wrap over bad paint it will be an improvement. I have a video showing this
@@CKWraps if you put wrap over the kind of "bad paint" you're referring to, it's an improvement until you take the wrap off in a few years and take paint off with it. You're comparing to a casual scuff-and-shoot job, not a proper paint job over existing paint work. If you have bad paint, that instantly eliminates a lot of cool wrap choices for you. Got stone chips? No chrome for you.
@@novinnovations4026 it's an improvement even with chrome over bad paint. Yes the bad paint will still be there but the work involved to have the vehicle look better is much less when it comes to wrap versus painting. Paint jobs under $15-20k still last as long as a wrap on a daily driver. So why bother?
Have you had any issues with the Airrelease channels of glossy wraps being visible once the adhesive cured all the way? Like a small pattern pushing through the glossy vinyl
Yes, I commonly see this with certain brands like Avery for example.
@@CKWraps Thanks a lot, one wrapper hadnt mentioned it at all, the other one told us right away and suggested satin wraps.
Thank you!
If you want a specific color wrapping is the way to go. It is a luxury service not everyone is supposed to afford a car wrap.
Yeah; but my goal is to wrap the planet in satin black. Not a fan of loud colors.
How long does the typical wrap last?
I'd say on average 3-5 years
@@CKWraps Thanks
As much as I love these videos, you are making an assumption, that everyone buys brand new vehicles and wants to bring it to you to protect the paint, in order to keep the value up on that certain vehicle for resale or trade. Problem is, 99% don’t buy a $100K Mercedes, most of us are probably DIY’ers that buy used vehicle with paint colours that aren’t always our first choice. That be said, as long as I have a decent base on my vehicle, as in the paint is not rusty or dented, I can DA sand the clear coat, and paint it with a single stage that will last twice or three times as long as wrapping. I don’t have to spend $5 to $10 grand to hire someone to wrap it, nor do I need to spend up to $3 grand and months and months of pissing around to learn how to do it myself, and finally, I won’t have to tear off the wrap myself in 3 years, or hire someone again, to remove and re wrap. Learning how to wrap, and all of the Tedious techniques, especially on the vehicles I own, would be a nightmare compared to paint. I don’t get why everyone thinks that it cost 10’s of thousands of dollars for paint. It doesn’t. OEM paint jobs are not that expensive and last way long.
I'm happy to comment on this.
1. It seems that you've spent some time learning how to paint? Because that is also a form of art when it's done very well. How long would you say it took you to perfect the craft of painting cars? Is it an industry that you work or have worked in?
2. Many people buy new cars, the number comes it at 29% or so. It doesn't matter if you buy a new car for 20k or $120k, painting a new car is a horrible idea unless that car has been in a collision.
3. I couldn't agree with your more about paint having its place. It's great for repairs or restoring older vehicles for example older muscle cars being built from the ground up. If you somehow think that there's less body work that needs to be done on an older vehicle before paint as opposed to wrap then you're incorrect. In fact you can wrap over surfaces with issues much easier than you can paint over the same surface. The amount of prep needed to wrap a car versus paint is much lower.
4. The paint alone costs very close to the price of a full average wrap including material. But I can also paint a car for $80.00 using a couple of spray cans so I could be wrong to an extent. I have close friends who've spent $5k, $10k, $25k and $100k+ on painting their cars. There is significant difference in each of those tiers. To also keep in mind that the lowest tier is $5k, which comes in at more expensive than an average wrap.
5. A paint job under $20k is permanent, but not (if that makes any sense). Meaning that the entire exterior will have paint flaking in almost no time (so removable?) but that that paint under that flaking paint is totally destroyed.
I could keep going but this is already a lot. I wouldn't put a $5k-$10k paint job on a wheelbarrel, never mind a whole car.
@@CKWraps thanks for replying, but I think you kind of missed what I was trying to get at, but also I probably didn’t explain properly either, as I was commenting in the moment. As much as I love the idea of vinyl wrapping when the finish is perfect, unfortunately the vinyl just doesn’t last long enough for me to justify hiring someone to do if for me, nor is it worth learning to do myself and then having to take off and re apply. But then again, I am the kind of guy that only likes a few colours and finishes. I guess your channel is more suited towards those that want to learn how to wrap as a business and hobby. Me not so much, I have to look at it as purely whether I can justify the expense. It is all good though, I wish you all the best.
PS: I have not spent a lot of time learning the craft of painting, but I know it isn’t as difficult many want one to believe. There are plenty of youtube channels that can varify this fact.
🤓🤙🔥🔥
News flash guys. Painting is dead. Painting is old tech. 85% of commercial paint has been replaced by wrapping
Buy a car in color other people want, wrap it in the color you want.
The money you spend to wrap it and dewrap it might as well buy the color your want. 🤷🏾♂️
Most car manufacturers don't offer finishes like brushed metal, matte / satin (in every color) or chrome. They also don't offer pearls and metallics in every possible color.
Not unless you are stupid enough to look at the paint. For me, buying a car is making sure it functions as intended. Paint is the least of my problems unless of course it is hiding rust.
