  • MY MISSION
My mission is to take subjects that can seem quite daunting and somewhat difficult to understand and explain them in such a way that everyone can understand and benefit. All too often things are explained to us in a way that is difficult to grasp. I really hope that all of my tutorials are understandable by most, if not all, people who wish to view them.
I want to help people understand as I was helped by some fantastic mentors during my years as a University student, in Science, and a trainee apprentice as an engineer. In fact, I could NOT have became a qualified repair engineer, followed by a Science graduate and post graduate, followed by the creation of these videos, if I never had these wonderful people in my life.
Sadly, some of them are no longer with us to see these videos, which I really want to dedicate to them. My very first manager (Mr Nadin), who gave me a chance straight out of school despite me not being the most ideal candidate for the position of engineers apprentices at the time. He believed he could make an engineer of me. So first of all, if it were not for him I wouldn't be here with all of this knowledge today. I will always respect him and remain grateful to him for what he did for me. I'm so pleased I achieved an apprentice of the year award in 1994 to give him back some satisfaction that I was working hard, and that his belief in me paid off.
I also want to dedicate these to my Father, who is still a practising engineer, for always pushing me into this field and ensuring I applied my mind to it. More than anyone else, I want to dedicate these to my amazing late mother, who nurtured, cared, loved and motivated me all of my life. When I was down she would always reach down and stand me back up again, telling me I was worth something. I only wish I could thank her in person and show her these videos. I realise now that she was my biggest and most amazing mentor.
Thank you for 40 Golden years mom. I am always thinking of you!
Finally, I want to give all of my love and gratitude to my incredible wife, the only woman I ever have, and ever will, truly love. She is my Rock! She is the only person who believes in me, and supports me, 100% in all of my endeavours. She believed in me from the moment we met, and saw some potential in me. She provided me with two amazing children, who have added a very challenging but completeness to our lives.

excellent tutorial mate. I've gotten my first 08s and non of the shops have been able to tune it up for me. Over here in Australia non of the stihl dealers and repairers will work on any of the old saws that do not have a chain break.

Looking for this site for a while now. Until I torn down my carb it wasn't drawing gas. When I torn it down I didn't realize
that I missing the mesh screen on the bottom of the bowl before I put the white plastic dome on. Don't if this has any effect on the draw
or whether the saw will run continuously, keep my fingers crossed. Hi from Canada.

Ive done the carburetor rebuild on this ts350, thanks to you, successfully done so, but after i run it it won't stay on idle according to stihl recommendations, they recommend recommend 1\4 out each side H and low.. May be you can help me out on that one.. i find 1/4 out each side seems to lean for me..did no try it yet, until i am sure... Thankyou TSR...

Craig, do you know why the operation manual of the 350 says that you have to screw the L and H needle full in and only a quarter out?

  • @brainfeed6604

Hi craig,as you state with this carburettor you like to turn 1&1/2 on one needle and 1 full turn on the other, but in your latest video you explain on the two stroke small engines you prefer to adjust both needles out 1 turn then start adjusting the high first. So should I turn both out one full turn first then start to adjust the high befor attempting the low speed ajusting needle screw.I know that this is a earlier vid and teaching methods can move along`But I would want to check first on your opinuion.By the way you are a great teacher`you explain very well by what I have seen on the other vids you have made, cheers

Hi mate, I inherited a trusty 08S which I'm trying to keep running. Unfortunately the screw holding the choke lever valve vibrated out. I've managed to find a replacement but can't figure out how the spring assembly linkage reattaches. Dont suppose you know where I can find a diagram / photo do you please?

If it revs better at slight instead of full throttle you might have the H and L screws mixed up.... as I did!

Darren Swarbrick, hi, it sounds to me like it's flooding. Have you noticed your choke butterfly is stuck in the closed position? If not then it could be that your carbs needle valve is not operating correctly. Are your fuel mixture screws set correctly? Any of these, but not limited to, could cause flooding. I do have a video on my channel on causes of flooding and I think it would be a good place to start for you. Please take a look and find the vid on that, it may help. Thanks

Maybe email me direct at dsgardenservices@yahoo.co.uk.co.uk if you are happy to help. I buy and sell these saws and have box full of old carbs that i have never managed to sort, i've now started to look in to sorting them out.

Do you know about pop off testing the tillotson carb and what readings i should get?

    Hi
My TS350 has decided to give me problems, it has always ran like a dream but all of a sudden it will not run unless I tweak the choke, i have to keep it on full choker to keep it running but after 30 secs or so it cuts out.
It will restart but only until it gets warm then it will not start at all.
Could an overhaul of carb be beneficial ?
Also what is the best way to set the screws on the carb for mixture etc
Many thanks, any help would be appreciated
