I think I’ll go with the k1 because i use the delete key quite a bit and i feel like it’s going to be easier to hit it without looking on the k1. The insert key is also used on rare occasions so it’ll be nice to have.
Keychron is ALWAYS out of product which is very frustrating. However while waiting for a K3, I grabbed a couple of K1s and they are FANTASTIC!! I LOVE the heft and weight of the K1 and the brown switches are delicious. After typing on the K1, I ordered a couple more for office and other remote locations and this is definitely the daily driver. K3 on order and of course since I have a number of K1s, I'll grab the optical browns on the K3 IF and WHEN they get these in stock. Thanks buddy, GREAT video.
I have the K3 with a mix of optical red and brown switches. Only two minor gripes about the keyboard. I hope Keychron will have PBT key caps option for the K3, and second with a bigger battery. Otherwise the keyboard is perfect.
Coming from the standard Apple keyboard, I tried the K4 Brown, C2 Red and the K1v4 Brown. Coming from the thin Apple keyboard I had a hard time adjusting to the taller keys and thicker case of the K4/C2. The red switches were a little mushy for my liking and the layout of the K4 was weird and the brown switches on this model were pretty clicky. Obviously I went with the K1v4 and so far I'm loving it. Great review video, I might have to try the K3 optical brown. The idea of using different switches for certain keys is intriguing. I broke my pinky (in half) a long time ago so it's wonky and is at a weird angle. I wonder if lighter switches on one side would allow me to use it more?
I've got the K2. The one thing I see about both of these keyboards that I don't like about my K2 is that on my K2, the legends for the connectivity and OS switches are both black, blending in to the keyboard. They didn't think to put white print on the legends, so they're harder to see than what you showed here.
got my k3 v2 yesterday with optical blue switch. my first mechanical keyboard in my life after using laptops for a decade plus. i can say this is really a good keyboard that does not really burn my wallet. will definitely buy the brown switches for hot swap when i feel want to have new feel. great video fiend!
I have K3v2, and key layout, and the fact that you can't easily change keys is really a big inconvenience (why is DEL above Backspace instead of being next to Enter like normally?? (and then Home would take DEL place, and PgDn takes the old Home place). Also no spacing between different sections of keys like K1v4 has, makes it harder to locate keys while typing (this is not the only keyboard you will use, so switching between your usual and this will not be very intuitive). And don't go for optical brown, it's too mushy and not pleasant to type on, ordered new switches, will see how it goes. So based on all this go for K1 SE (new model) optical hot-swappable (not brown, maybe Blue or Banana (can order separately)).
man your video quality and review quality are CRAZY...keep up the good work, good quality and good reviews, you will gain a lot of subs(which is a thing that you deserve) !
Keep in mind that the Keychron warehouse is in Hong Kong. It ships from there, and if you don't like the product, you're responsible for returning it to there. Which means, effectively, there are no returns. Keychron doesn't offer a return label, so you can pony out more money than you spent on the actual keyboard, trying to return it.
I have the K1v4 gateron blue switch since mid-2020, and I'm very careful with it. There is one major problem that I'm not the only one to get: after 2 to 3 years (3 for me, other got that issue faster), the battery dies and start swollen up to the point the keyboard is deformed around keys F2 to F6 and 4 to 7, pretty severe. Once removed (not easy, battery is glued, what a poor design), luckily the keyboard worked for me (some other Keychron keyboards can't even work without battery, check that too before buying). So this K1 has one severe defect: it use no name generic unreliable battery. I personally won't put a replacement battery as those after market generic batteries do look extremely bad, and Keychron is not offering other solution that going for those dangerous batteries (which they choose to use). I recommend to check that point before buying, and if Keychron still use such poor batteries, I advise against buying Keychron keyboards. Which is sad, the rest of the K1 is really good.
Keychron makes some pretty decent budget mechanical keyboards! I like the 65% layout better but also like the heft and weight of the K1 more! UGH THAT OFF CENTER PORT! I think I like the K3 better! Great video Mike! 😁
Nice video Pal. I cannot believe the k3 does not have any real adjustment on the feet. They have missed a trick there! Should have had magnet removable feet surely?
Thanks for all the info! I've been debating between the two and about to go K1, because it is more often in stock. But, you've not shown me a few things that shift me back to the K3, so I guess I'll be waiting a bit more. :) re: optical - do you have any issues with the pre-mature key-press? My understanding is that it is a design issue with all the opticals, but maybe they've addressed it? (Basically, the key-press trigger point can be at the very top of travel, before the 'click' on the tactile (blue/brown) and just way too early. Even just brushing fingers across the keys triggers some input.)
Anyone know where I could try these out in store? I’ve never used a mechanical keyboard (unless maybe when I was a kid and my family had a computer from 1995). I wanna see what I like before buying. I enjoy my current not-mechanical keyboard but the K1 has me intrigued aesthetically
Idk where you will find anything like this in stores. I just bit the bullet and baught one I'd like after lots of review videos and switch test videos. First one I bought was around $100.
Do you think the Keychron v1 SE is significantly better than MX Mechanical? Just bought the MX and am considering canceling the order and getting a keychron instead.
