I own a Studio 6 along with a lot of other gear, mostly high-performance. The speaker can be very sensitive to its placement. In an average size enclosed room there's a lot of bass. And I mean a lot. Too much for my ears. Many folks would likely enjoy that, but I prefer a more balanced presentation. In my ~500ft^2 shop placed well away from room boundaries, however, the S6 sounds absolutely wonderful: it's relatively resolving and detailed, its somewhat focused, the sound is clear and layered, there's space between the instruments and a sense of the recorded environment, and the overabundance of bass is gone. Really, the bass becomes highly articulated. In this environment, it's the single best sounding BT speaker I've heard. More resolving than the Xreme 2 which I also own. For a person interested in decent sound quality with eye-popping bass, the S6 will do the trick in an average size room. Give it room to breathe, and it comes close to an entry-level high-performance setup. That's about as high of a compliment as I can give in this context.
Nice comparison, thanks. Seems like the 6 has ironed out the main flaw of the 5: dull and trapped mid and high. Better in balance now and still remaining the unmatched low bass

@@superstarjesus hi, but don't buy just based on my opinion, you really should check it out through videos here about the sound's testings. Listen to Onyx 5 vs Onyx 6's sounds ... Then again Onyx 6 vs Only 7's sounds ... Personally, it's just my own opinion, I'm happy and didn't regretted that I got Onyx 6, thou now the latest is Onyx 7 ... Onyx 7's sound is a little different from Onyx 6. It sounded more to 'cleaner' sound, and balance between both bass and treble, whereas Onyx 6's sound is more on heavier bass and treble is a little lower than Onyx 7. So as the bass on Onyx 7 is a little low powerful than Onyx 6's. And another point to consider, what genre are your music's ? I'd chose Onyx 6 coz I'm more into electro, rave, techno, trance, house mixed & rock. So definitely Onyx 6 is my perfect choice. But doesn't mean that Onyx 6 can't play classical or orchestra music, it can as well ... Just the listening pleasure compared to Aura 3 for classical and orchestra is more perfect than listen with Onyx 6. If you're into every type of genres of music and don't mind the bass is a little less powerful, than you perhaps should consider Onyx 7, coz it's a balance between both bass and tremble. Last fact, I find it has a little effects from the type of cellphone you're using. Coz on cellphone's Music's file, usually it has the options to choose your preferred types of sounds, like it has Rock, Pop, Dance, Bass, Classical, Jazz, Blues, Folk, Concert Hall, Fantasy, Studio, Voice, Near, Front, Wide, Grand, 3D, Natural, Front Surround, 3D Surround, Mega Bass, Choral, Melodious, Driving, 3D Rotations ... These selections it also effects on the sounds playing on Onyx. That's why I mention, when I play my electro dance remix genre of musics, I usually select Bass or Mega Bass + Wide or 3D Surround. If I'm on Rock music, I'll select Rock + Grand, if I'm going for classical, I'll select either Classical or Jazz + Concert Hall or Wide ... All these selections pairing, it has effects on the sound's play from my Onyx 6. Anyways, I'll highly suggest you key in "Harman Kardon Onyx 5 vs Onyx 6 / Onxy 6 vs Onyx 7 Sound Testing" and listen with your phone's earphone to differentiate the sound's differences. Good luck.
@@superstarjesus Another choice or second option is Bose's speakers. They are quite good, but still can't compare much with Harman Kardon. I would say Bose is second choice after Harman Kardon. The rest don't waste your $$$$ away. Whatever Sony, Pioneer, Philips, Edifier ... All ain't worth and ain't satisfying. Except ... Burmester. Too bad Burmester doesn't sell or produce it's speakers for home entertainment. Only in my M.Benz's car audio is by Burmester. The sound's quality is superb, as excellent as Harman Kardon.
@@alexandriaelony6858 Hey thanks again. I’m into songs like rap, pop, and generally songs with a lot of bass so I was wondering to get the onyx because it has better bass then the onyx 7.
Actually the visible passive radiator is quite vulnerable, so I like the new design a lot more due to its durability. After all it's a PORTABLE bluetooth speaker.
Good review with comparison to sound however it would benefit to mention the price difference. Being that the 6 cost $480 (from Harmon Kardon) about $230 more, the value would be going with the 5 ($250 Best Buy). Amazon even cheaper at $126.50. As a consumer, the water resistance and slightly better sound quality doesn't make up for the overall price IMO.
Already owned the studio 5. I cant hear the difference if they are not compared side by side. The high is better on studio 6, but the bass is almost the same.

Just got a 5 for $150 at Best Buy. Too good to pass up. Seeing the 6 listed at $479 on the HK website is insane. It will just tank in price like all Onyx do.
Can I recommend playing some classical music? Like symphonies/orchestral pieces? They have a very wide range of things going on and I feel like at least 1 of those types of songs would show the full potential of the speakers you review when we hear their sound comparisons.
Besides being ipx7 and a new paint job if they had a app to do firmware updates they could have just updated the 5 but instead you got a useless micro USB port🧐 hopefully they make a app
Should I switch my iPhone to Mono when playing through the studio 6 since it’s a mono speaker? Or did they account for that and I should just play it as normal. Looking for best quality and don’t want to lose information playing to in stereo.

Mr willington
The boombox 2 has arrive at CES 2020
Hope youll have one of that monster
And do a comparison to the old boombox
Bet you I will 👍🏽
I miss the visible passive radiator on such speaker... Studio 4 is my choice lol
JBL Spoiling people 😂
Actually the visible passive radiator is quite vulnerable, so I like the new design a lot more due to its durability. After all it's a PORTABLE bluetooth speaker.
I have the studio 4 to
And i tell you its the best but i think i will upgrade to the onyx studio 6 or boombox 2
@@Kaps_19 how long does the battery last?
Good review with comparison to sound however it would benefit to mention the price difference. Being that the 6 cost $480 (from Harmon Kardon) about $230 more, the value would be going with the 5 ($250 Best Buy). Amazon even cheaper at $126.50. As a consumer, the water resistance and slightly better sound quality doesn't make up for the overall price IMO.
Erik Penabella Tmobile has them on sale for $200
I want to buy Onyx 6 because of a friend of mine got it and I love the sound. He told me to look for the rms when you buy the speakers.
Videos are looking really good!
another outdoor please... please compare them both with AC mode and battery mode in outdoors
Already owned the studio 5. I cant hear the difference if they are not compared side by side. The high is better on studio 6, but the bass is almost the same.
Hey Great, Quality informative but still to the point reviews! Easily got my Subscribe. THANK YOU, I'll be getting the Onyx 6, sounds slightly clearer.
Me personally I would go with the SONY ZS-BTG905 instead because the battery in those rechargeable speakers will die very soon and they will be useless and cost money to buy replacement batteries. But they may have more boost bass sound though. Enjoy guys. Good job Bro'...
😂 thanks mate... I’m just after the sound quality, I guess I’ll just go for the studio 5 because it’s cheaper... good review though 👍
I'm looking to get my first one, after hearing a friend's Studio 4. My research shows the 6 only $10 more than the 5. 🤷♀️
Studio 6 is more open and disoved ..mid is more in front and fresh. Bit more clear and dynamic. I got 2 studio 5 already. but maybe i want studio 6 ;-)
I am the owner of two Onux 5!
I am very disappointed with Onux 6!
A crackling sound!
So terrible!
Excellent job on sound test.
I want the one that cost less...
And in burgundy or grey
thanks for the review im looking for portable speaker that good sounds and i can carry when i travel.
I just got the 6.....the 5s highs just a little bit different but if you have 5 you don't need to upgrade ...I got the 6 free....
The only thing about Harman Kardon that i wish you can do to it is connect it with the other speaker like boom 1,2 and 3.. you can connect it with as many boom speaker to make it even louder.
Bought the pulse 4 yesterday on sell for 200 but I paid 219 after tax here on Washington
Why? I only paid 183 for onyx 5 after tax in washington
@@rabbidpotatoegaming4514 I got xtrem 2 and xtreme 1 3 charge 4s 2 flip 4s stay will jbl
6 pumps just a little bit more at max volume. Not enough difference, depending on price, I'd get the 5 to save money.
Better clarity on the 6
Love what you doing keep it up... question Can you pair two 6 studio together for better sound?
the 6 sounds just a very slight bit more highs from what i hear
only difference is onyx 6 has the waterproofing and a updatet motherboard
2019
People Be like:
The Onyx Studio 5 has clear mids, Bass response is superb, very good sound quality overall
2020: studio 6 appears
People be like
Studio 5 has recessed mids, Studio 6 has overall better sound quality than Studio 5.
Mehhhhnnnn....
Lol....
The studio 6 has wider soundstage, and higher mid/high and little more clearer sound
Yeees u can pair them!!!
I think that sound of the studio 6 is allmost the same just a little boost at the lower treble
What about the studio 6 vs studio 4?
onyx st.7 should be with much bigger woofer, and STEREO
I hope! That will be awesome!
Do these come out every year?
it's great, I'm listening by loudspeaker Harman Kardon
The 6 seems to have a little more treble.
Wheeew the bass makes my heart smile. I wish i could somehow figure out how ride bike with these speakers
Bruce Wayne get a backpack, put the speaker in your backpack and there you go, play it max volume. 😎
Bruce Wayne get some thick string, strap it around the handle, make it into a backpack itself.
Still got the 3rd one its awsome, but i lile this design way more so ill purches the 6th one :D becuse they really are awsome
Did u try to link ur studio 6 to studio 5?
Can you connect a Studio 5 and Studio 6 to the same Audio source (Like a bluetooth phone) and play synced music on both speakers at the same time?
Hello did you know the answer
Just got a 5 for $150 at Best Buy. Too good to pass up. Seeing the 6 listed at $479 on the HK website is insane. It will just tank in price like all Onyx do.
I seen the 6 at the sprint store for $200.
Is it legit studio 6 for 200$ ? Not a fake?
Onyx 5 can pair with the other onyx 5 but can't play like tws / stereo, is onyx 6 can pairing tws?
Is there any audio delays on the Onyx 6 when watching videos? Been seeing some complaints about delays on the Onyx 5. Can you confirm?
Yes, there was a delay in 6. I reset the speaker (by holding down the bluetooth symbol and the + until it turns off.)
This solved the issue
The crisp and treble punch by the studio 6.
But for me, I like studio 5 because the sound was just balance and right. 👍
Oh no.. I Just placed my order on Onyx Studio 5 last night. 🤦🏻♂️
bro there aint much of a difference....well unless u need the 6 for a pool...the 5 sounds just as good....trust me
5 better smooth and deep bass
6 is.. slightly brighter and louder
but... 5.. still perfect! 👍🏼
if it not waterproof but it OK;)
You made a good choice , the only difference is waterproof, the sound believe is the same and 5 is much cheaper then 6 , so dont woory be happy :)
Studio 6 bass is wild af
Bass quality are thesame to me but in loudness and mid sound i go for 6
onyx 6 has better sound stage ! I know I comment it in 2021 but I'm looking for new or second hand speaker. hmm for me onyx 6 will be great
Can I recommend playing some classical music?
Nah 6 is definitely brighter as in its more live 5 sounds more dull.
lone wolf but not that much of a difference that if you had the 5 you would upgrade.
I just messed with the eq and finally achieved the studio 6 tone LOL
What is about the bass? Is the studio 6 has slightly less bass than studio 5?
Yes
