- Join Jodi as she tours the University of Puget Sound (UPS), a vibrant university that offers students a unique blend of academic rigor, personal growth, and a supportive community. Founded in 1888 in Tacoma, Washington, its campus spans 97 beautiful acres in the shadow of Mount Rainier.
Home to 2,000 undergraduate students, UPS provides a personalized educational experience with small class sizes and a commitment to student success. With over 1,200 courses across 59 areas of study, including interdisciplinary programs, class sizes average 17 students, ensuring individualized attention.
Campus life is just as dynamic. Seventy-five percent of students come from out of state, adding to the diversity and welcoming atmosphere. The campus boasts over 80 student-run clubs and organizations, catering to a wide range of interests, from academic clubs to cultural and recreational groups. Approximately 30% of students participate in Greek life, with multiple fraternities and sororities offering opportunities for leadership, community service, and social engagement.
The University also encourages community service and engagement. Students can participate in service-learning opportunities and internships that allow them to make a difference in the local community. Puget Sound is home to 23 NCAA Division III athletic teams, and around 30% of students participate in athletics.
Additionally, the campus is home to a strong performing arts community, where students can join a variety of music ensembles, dance groups, and theatre productions. The Conservatory of Music is particularly well-regarded, and non-music majors can also get involved in music and theater opportunities, including earning performance scholarships.
The University of Puget Sound offers comprehensive financial aid, meeting the full financial needs of Early Decision (ED) applicants. Scholarships up to $38,000 a year are available, and the university waives the application fee for Early Action applicants.
With an impressive track record, 55% of UPS graduates go on to pursue graduate studies. The university also excels in medical and law school admissions, with 80% of medical school applicants and 90% of law school applicants gaining acceptance.
As a proud member of Colleges That Change Lives (CTCL), UPS is committed to providing an exceptional liberal arts education that fosters both academic and personal growth.
With its beautiful campus, diverse student body, and commitment to both academics and extracurricular activities, the University of Puget Sound offers a well-rounded and enriching college experience.
