Back in the day we used one bike for everything. There wasn't the specialized bikes like today. I remember seeing the first freestyle bike and was blown away.
Just turned 50 and seeing this has me drooling, reminiscing, and filled with happy nostalgia. I have to visit this place someday. And I’m stoked I still got my 86 Master, the most important piece of my childhood and teenage years. Thanks for the video and thanks to Chad, what a rad dude.
Very cool..im 60 years young just getting into BMX..from my dragster days..have 6 kids with and grandchildren.. ive gone collector and i ride my bmx bikes❤ love the collection..looks like ill be getting on a plane from queensland Australia
You can’t beat OLD SKOOL BMX.May be I’m biased as I grew up with BMX in the early to mid 1980s,so I saw it become huge.Virtually everyone I knew had a BMX bike(the most popular bike was the PK RIPPER,so many people I know owned them, especially street riders) but GTs, DIAMOND BACKS, REDLINES, MONGOOSE SUPERGOOSES, RALEIGH BURNERS,were also popular.I love the fact that so many people in their 50s(like myself),60s and even 70s, are riding both 20 and 24 inch BMX bikes.BMX seemed to go through a slump in the late 80s and early 90s, but those that were still racing, freestylin and street riding kept it going when loads had abandoned it for mountain bikes. And now you have the likes of SE, MONGOOSE, RALEIGH, SKYWAY and HUTCH for example who have rereleased 80s BMX bikes.MONGOOSE rereleased the SUPERGOOSE and CALIFORNIA a couple of years back, and they sold out(some ending up on eBay and selling for STUPID prices).I’m waiting for MONGOOSE to rerelease the PRO CLASS in 24 inch as the PRO CLASS was a classic in both 20 and 24 inch and I’ll be buying a 24 inch PRO CLASS.😉
@@derekharrison1582I’ve also noticed over the years the geometry of bmx has changed ever since they moved on from threaded forks where it was easier to raise and lower the stem. Mid school bikes were super heavy and small with the bolt on style stems. They should re release a batch like old school with mag wheels
I know nothing about BMX at all but this was dope as hell, I respect anyone who is attempting to preserve history regardless of what kind of history it is.
The 4th bike you showed. The 1974 Dan Gurney bike. I just bought back my Dan Gurney Eagle Mono Shock bike that i had at 14. I'm 57 now. So glad to get it back to pass on to my Grandson.
Did my heart good when the first bike I saw, in prime viewing position, was the Yamaha Moto-Bike. So sweet! Dad broke the piggy bank and my brother and I both got very special Christmas surprises. They were $120 each in 1974 and a huge splurge for a Greyhound bus driver, but he rode Yamaha and wanted his kids to as well. What a blast!
I’m an old school Bmx’er from Belgium who started in 79’ and raced for 12 years. When I quite racing I donated all my bikes and gear to the old school bmx museum in the Nederlands.
I'm 48 and still have all my bikes. They are in my parents basement and I haven't even thought of them in over 30 years until I saw this video. Diamond Back formula one, Free Agent mini, Boss, Schwinn Predator, Various GT, Hutch, Skyway. CW Racing scooters. Lots of Redline cranks, dk necks, z-rims never used. I'll be busy next weekend!! Woo-hoo
I'm 42 years old. I loved my 97 Haro group 1 Ti. Had sst orgy gyro on it, Matt Hoffman bars, GT grips, alienation/redline 48 spoke wheels with flip flop rear hub. Rode that bike everywhere. Sadly, it sat in my parents' garage for years, and they just gave it away to some kid. Hope the kid loved it as much as I did. But I still wish I still had my first true Real BMX bike. Have so many stories about riding it. And the story all started after i got hooked because of watching Rad the movie at a friend's house. That movie was our holy grail into bmx
Totally rad, dude. I agree with the "leave it original" philosophy...clean it up, service it, make it functional and call it a day. Restored bikes are cool too and they're definitely nice to look at but there is just something magical about an old BMX bike in its original condition and the story that it tells.
Im 55 and started in BMX when I was 13, love it and follow it until today. This is amazing man, awesome work! Its sad that you don't see that many kids on BMX bikes on the streets these days...
nice. one of those bmx plus magazines....... i am in it. i am over 50 and i still ride bmx. i have talked to you before. but ya i still do and make flatland videos. race videos. street. park etc. cool place bro. good stuff. happy 4th bro.
Born in 62, this museum trip opened my eyes to stuff I remember in the mid 70s when I was learning about BMX. The bikes and the magazines where you could dream about "one day" owning one. I subscribed cuz you tell great stories.
I grew up in the 70's I'm 59. The we took our Schwinn stingrays and put dirt bike handlebars on 'em and chopped 'em up, good luck finding a stingray these days Andy Patterson was a classmate and a BMX pioneer, was the first in Bell Gardens to have a Stroker frame with Skyways, very jealous, Loved this video What a nerd😂👍
I’ll be turning 58 and had a scrambler. Then my parents bought be a Rampart and owned a mongoose with mag wheels. The good old days. We started it all. We use to jump dirt hills and stairs.
I saw a flash of my old GT BMX in the beginning of the video. I had the chrome with the blue/gold/red GT BMX graphics/decals! I ride my Robinson everyday, sometimes nights too!
Never knew this place is so close to my house. Going to have to check it out. At 50, I’m getting back to my early days. Still have my 1986 Hutch Trick Star. A bit small at 20”. Awesome vid!
You pulled that diamond back i. A swamp...i wish i had that luck. Was always one of my favorites. Harro,redline- had an original harro fatboy loved that bike
WOW. I'm 52. Back in '83-'85 I had a chrome TRM Freestyler (a small manufacturer based in Birmingham, UK). I sold it for pennies in the 90s when I was a poor student. What a f******g idiot. This museum is awesome and next time I'm in Richmond VA I am 100% paying a visit! Thanks for posting man - nostalgia overload.
that 2b homecooked shirt is so awesome i remember having one of theres that said c.u.m. equipment instead of b.u.m. equipment got kicked out of school for wearing it.
When I was a kid (56 now) a kid in our neighborhood had one of those Yamaha suspension bmx bikes. We all loved to jump it, because it had the suspension, and although it was a tank, it handled pretty good compared to what were were riding, which was mostly junk. This was around 1977/78

I get it, thanks for preserving our history. I raced as many weekends I could from 1979-92. At 51 now & still love BMX. I every day a 2004 Proline Pro 24 I got during our honeymoon in 2006 at a cool shop in Boulder City Nevada. It now has real hi end parts, I love riding it a lot. Upgraded to a Brooks B-17 saddle, made a big difference!
What an amazing collection of bmx mags, I had quite a bit, back in the day, only have a handful left. Btw, I love all the bikes, but the purple HUTCH TRICKSTAR, is a dream bike of mine, WOODY ITSON STYLE
……growing up in 60’s we were early on what would become BMX and modded our 20” stingrays bars, tires, seat. Reduce weight and remove fenders, chain guard etc…because we were too young for a dirt bikes. We made a moto track that many would come from miles to ride. At almost 65 now I’m still a fan of bmx, skateboarding and surf life. Thanks for the great tour vlog 🤙🏼
I’ve been looking at bikes recently. What are good brand these days. I remember fit, gt, haro and we the people etc but there’s a lot of new brands I’m not familiar with

I still have my 1986 GT Pro World Tour. I remember how happy I was to get it from Rockville BMX. I wish that store still existed so I could take my kids there and buy them bikes from the same place I got mine.
Got one of his power's bike shop decals on the back of my buddy's Bobtail truck that does delivery all through the Southern California ❤❤❤❤ Still have the GT seat I bought from power's bike shop on my bike till this day 🎉🎉🎉
52 yrs old and this was our childhood throughout the early to mid 80s.. We had a couple of BMX stores in our CT town with a couple of tracks that were in made in the woods by local neighborhood kids... It was such a bookmark in all the guys who grew up in this era... Jst to see some of these bikes again brings you right back to one of the best memories growing up... Myself as well as many of the guys I grew up with could walk around this place playing remember when for hours... This is truly a very special place of not only BMX history but as well as a piece of American culture!!

Sweet I live in western Maryland and iv been to Richmond many times. I'm definitely making a trip down soon. You may even be interested in a couple things related to Kevin Robinson I have. I met him back in 2008. Got pics with him, autographed my T shirt and S&M Redneck stem.. great memories
My bike back around 1978 or so was a Schwinn 36/36. I always wanted something more modern, even though it was brand new bike. I tried modding it up but never finished before I out grew it.
Just thought if an idea for the jerseys... How about using the "flip through" poster display rack like at wally world? Mount jerseys back to back maybe on the flip through display rack. With or without a separation sheet?
Old school nbmx days for me. This just taken me to the late 80's when i was ranked 9 uk .3 ea . Still have my frame and forks in the loft . I think it needs to be riden again.
i bought a brand new Diamondback Formula 1 BMX bike in 1984. it was the lightest BMX bike of the 80s. riding that smooth light weight Diamondback was night and day compared to a heavy Swin. adding a GT layback seat post i spent $380.00 total in 84
the profile limited run stuff 😻😻😻 i got the kaleidoscope hub set and i didn't get the matching stem bc i only run front loads and now i regret not getting it 😭 so cool seeing all the sets together!!!
Really Cool. As your guest and you said ,some era of that collection will meen more to some than others. As a child of the "'80''s. You're collection of race bikes and then the late 80''s Freestylers are killer. Cheers from Australia.
im 49, so much drool in this video, so many things i never actually used, but have seen or heard of during my racing years in the nbl. i was all about redline back then, had many other bikes, but redlines just spoke to me lol. but this collection is just insane!!!!!!!! also gotta say, the haro master is the holy grail of freestyle even over the pro performer from gt. and it blows me away that you got one for that price.
R.I.P Stephen bro!!!! We all miss him everday bro!!!!! I love that you have his bike an helmet Stephen sadly took his life a few years ago an the front royal skatepark went downhill after they R.I.P to him he always made me ride better an good tips
From Australia 🇦🇺, I still have my 1st BMX My cousin used to race in the 80,s won a couple time , I remember Being at the bmx meet back when plastic Coke bottles come out and no one could pop it doing dummy hops ,great times as a child.
That place is amazing I still have my favorite bike from the 90's. It was a Zreonine frame until it snapped the I used a Edlone RL340 frame with Skyway handle bars, Perigrine HP 48 rims and tyres, with a GT seat poll, Tioga crank and odyssey brakes and gyro. She is a classic beast and will always have it.
I am 56 years old and love these boys bring back memories
I just turned 50 in August and this brings me back to the bike shops of the 80s
As a 54 yr old BMXer all I can say is WOW!!!!! Thanks for sharing. AMAZING!!!!!!!
55 yr old here, what he said... 👍🏻🤘🏻🤓
That's awesome, I honestly appreciate the older BMXs rather than the newer punk ones 😃

54 here and would love to see this in person.
Back in the day we used one bike for everything. There wasn't the specialized bikes like today. I remember seeing the first freestyle bike and was blown away.
Chad at Powers BMX sold me a 1994 GT Power series 24" chrome frame and fork and it ROCKED!
That's SICK DUDE !!!
I was smart enough to keep my Gary Turner I raced in the late 70's.

This just taken me to the late 80's when i was ranked 9 uk .3 ea .
Still have my frame and forks in the loft .
I think it needs to be riden again.
i bought a brand new Diamondback Formula 1 BMX bike in 1984. it was the lightest BMX bike of the 80s. riding that smooth light weight Diamondback was night and day compared to a heavy Swin. adding a GT layback seat post i spent $380.00 total in 84
Sooo cool! And powers first bike was one of my first. Still have it too.
Everyone wanted those GT's in the 90's. Heck I still want one lol Great collection
the profile limited run stuff 😻😻😻 i got the kaleidoscope hub set and i didn't get the matching stem bc i only run front loads and now i regret not getting it 😭 so cool seeing all the sets together!!!

From Australia 🇦🇺, I still have my 1st BMX My cousin used to race in the 80,s won a couple time , I remember Being at the bmx meet back when plastic Coke bottles come out and no one could pop it doing dummy hops ,great times as a child.
❤❤❤
That place is amazing I still have my favorite bike from the 90's. It was a Zreonine frame until it snapped the I used a Edlone RL340 frame with Skyway handle bars, Perigrine HP 48 rims and tyres, with a GT seat poll, Tioga crank and odyssey brakes and gyro. She is a classic beast and will always have it.
