@@rogueabyss you can right click and scroll down _ever so slightly_ (just rotating your fingers is often more than enough) to set it to 0.5. I haven't been able to manage 0.25 yet
That was actually an awesome little experience. Not sure if it was the "laptop secret", but I found that the s,d, and f keys act as left, middle, and right click. Definitely didn't find that through brute forcing keys after the middle click step. Also I remember there being a minesweeper roguelike but it being extremely subpar for it's expectations, so if you ever do end up making one please learn from whatever went wrong there.
I played this, it's really good although it's possible for someone to discover a later mechanic early on and ruin the surprise (happened to me with scrolling)
something interesting for you that I got from some minesweeper reddits, some mine sweepers that consider themselves "no guess" can have positions where you must guess, and in them, if you pick a cell that has the lowest chance of being a mine it will never be a mine. This lets them have seeming 50/50's and preserves that horrible feel of classic minesweeper guessing, while also adding the extra layer of complexity you were talking about where you need to figure out which cell is least likely to have a mine
Make a minesweeper but the mines are played by Stockfish, so your 1s are Pawns, your 2s are Knights, etc. Mines are all Knights, and blow up when attacking.
Had to play through it myself before watching the video beyond the intro. Actually plugged a USB mouse into my laptop to finish it, though I did end up spotting the trick to the non-mouse solution later (the clue isn't all that obvious).
I actually played this since release, I tried it for the fun of it thinking it was (in fact) minesweeper with a cursed twist somewhere I couldn't figure out what was I meant to do after reaching like 7/10 mines point until a few days later when I noticed the "left something right" in the instructions and immediately deduced it was the middle click, after that I finished it all rather quickly but it was still an interesting alternative on probabilities being used inside Minesweeper
Okay wow holy crap- That was extremely fun to watch Also the idea at the end with rougelite sounds great on paper though I am not sure what to expect from it which adds to the idea honestly
i figured out scrolling by messing around with controls while stuck before 20 minues, but i had to look at this video to figure out what the 2 buttons rule was...
omg, that's such a good troll. (Wish I found that during while i was browsing the confounding calendar and not by video.... not sure how I missed your entry..... sorry....) I mean, you took all those cursed game energy and put it into lingo maps instead, I think that's fair....... walc
Have you looked into Minesweeper playthroughs focusing on the Mastery statistic? It's basically a metric for how many games out of the last 100 you've played were wins, and utilises a lot of the exact thing you find interesting: figuring out the tile with the lowest mine probability (although probability of progress is another important metric to consider as well). I highly recommend the YT channel Mine Buoy for more content about this playstyle, I think you would greatly enjoy their videos.
The difficulty was perfect, sure you get something's up when you notice that some ??s have turned into "Mi???? ?????" but you can only really understand it once you realize your only options left are % gambles at mines. I wouldn't change a thing. Yes, I accidentally found the scrolling first but the fact you still have to say "all the remaining cells are the same fraction" means you still have to think once you get to the scroll section.
I know it's been a while since you made this, but there's a weird quirk where if you ctrl+tab away from the browser tab with the game running (at least on Firefox on Mac OS, my current environment), it sometimes unmarks a cell in the process
That last step confused me because I tried scrolling on an unmarked cell Turns out there has to be some sort of flag on it to scroll, and I only figured that out when I tried scrolling down to the comments for an answer because I got so stuck xD Good puzzle though, that was fun! I also figured out the 0.25 and 0.75 thing completely on accident while clicking through all the buttons on my keyboard to figure out if there was another button I could press and as I was going sequentially I pressed S and D fast enough together that it marked it as 0.25
Idea: a "make your minesweeper" minesweeper. If there is something wrong with the logic so like theres a 3 and has 4 mines or a 2 and theres only 1 mine and all the others are safe
Honestly, anyone who knows how to program is a wizard in my eyes. I've only ever managed to make crappy unfinished games using drag-and-click in game maker and clickteam fusion. Whenever I tried to learn a language I always get overwhelmed and quit. It also doesn't help that there are a million languages and engines. It's part of why prefer designing abstract strategy games because all you need is a rule set and mspaint.
I am interested in becoming a teacher and I've always managed to simplify science classes and explain techy shit to anyone interested if you want to get into it just lemme kno
I got to 19/20 on laptop. Spoiler warning… Last chance… Click more… Noticed the d was underlined and gave it a go. The placement of S D F was really clever, I just didn’t think to push them both at once and had to refer to the video. Also, I figured the last hint had something to do with scrolling, but I was dumb and only experimented on blank tiles. The adaptations you made for laptop were very fair, I was just too stupid
HAND REVEAL?? HAND REVEAL. (probably...) On an unrelated note, I actually had fun playing this. I PROBABLY found the twist too soon but damn was it still fun.
Rather than just putting the url for those sites in the video, you should also consider putting them in the description or a pinned comment or something.
5:53 Wait that's cheating! There's a counter for how many mines you flagged correctly so you can just flag every cell and know which ones are mines based on if the counter goes down.
