    I have always heard that not removing the burr is why your knife feels sharp at first, then very quickly feels dull because the burr has rolled over. How is this any different from that? You're [lightly] cutting into something while still having a burr.

      Lightly cutting into the wood helps to remove the burr instead of rolling it over

    Don't know if you'll see this but I couldn't find an email for you anywhere. I have a few questions about a bottle of 0.1 um gunny juice. I got 6 bottles but the 0.1 had air in the bottle making it impossible to apply without it flying everywhere. Could I re bottle it into a small spray bottle? Also wondering if you're still selling the lapping fluid, been looking everywhere for it but haven't been able to find it. Not a big deal, just figured I'd try reaching out in the comments. Love your vids and and products 👍

      Scott Gunn on FB. Message me I will replace the bottle. I will just have you send it to me for R&D purposes, but I will take care of you. And Gritomatic should have the lapping fluid.

    So, this is beneficial after each grit and prior to strop? Or just prior to strop?🤔

    So, should/can this be done between stones when sharpening? Or is this after sharpening/stropping?

    I haven't been doing this as it seems i had heard that it might have negative effects on quality of the edge due kind of ripping it off i think, not sure. Contrary to this though I think i have seen other sharpeners on RUclips getting very good results and recommending dragging through one or another softer media such as the wood. I think i did try it at first without great results but it has been a while ago and i probably was doing more poorly in general with my sharpening at that time. What's your take on if there is possible negative effects with this technique and maybe how it stacks up vs other burr removal techniques. Hope that makes sense and sorry for the long response.

      I wouldn’t do it with low grit sharpening. Or if you have a really large burr. This is for that small fine burr that you can barely feel. Or if you aren’t quite getting it removed then try this. I suggest using abrasives to get it as small as you can before going to the wood. But to answer the other part of your question, if there’s a really large burr it can damage the apex. At the same time if lightly cutting into wood is going to damage the apex so is using the knife for cutting anything else.

    What's the shelf life of Gunny Juice? Does it dry up after opening? And what should I do to rehydrate it if it does? Add water, mineral oil?

    • @GunnysSharptalk
      @GunnysSharptalk  Год назад

      It can vary greatly depending on how it’s stored. Temperature, humidity etc. all play a role. Officially a year. I personally have some over 2 years old that I still use and it’s absolutely fine. Out of bright sunlight and inside your house any that’s been sold to date is likely fine. To rehydrate it you need DI water or better. I use Type I or Type II lab grade water. The diamonds are deionized. So unless you use a deionized water then you may be adding a different charge to the solution. That could cause the diamonds to clump together

      Sometimes a little might dry in the spout. Try cleaning most with a toothpick or something. Then after a couple squirts the product should be good.
