    over 15 minutes for a basic overlapping shell stitch... I'm confused and a bit disappointed.
    but if 5D implies that this stitch is textured and also transcends time and space it may not be entirely wrong, since it's presented as a Japanese novelty, but was actually quite common in the 50s and 60s here in Italy 😅

    This is basically a 2 row repeat. One of the rows is chains separated by scs; the other row is sets of (2dc-ch1-2dc). It's hard to start but once you get the rhythm it gets easier. This particular one uses 3 colors, which does complicate things; it's easier to do if you use just 2 colors, 2 rows of one color and 2 rows of the other. You get a double sided fabric that shows both colors but one will dominate, and it's gorgeous. It is thick though so try to work loosely, maybe go up a hook size. (I made a 2 color version of this, many years ago, in red and white; it was beautiful.) I hope that helps.

    Interlock Crochet & Knitting can get pretty intricate looking and there are some stunning designs.
    Note: this is not to be confused with Entrelac knitting/crochet which is something different entirely.

      You're on RUclips! You can learn almost anything. In the RUclips search function, search for "Crochet for absolute beginners." Get a skein of inexpensive acrylic yarn in a medium weight (look for a "4" on the label) and buy a cheap, aluminum crochet hook in size 4.5mm or 5mm. Then just follow along and don't get frustrated before you've learned to do a simple rectangle of basic stitches with fairly even sides and not-too-tight stitches.
      It takes some practice, but once you learn the basics - they are easy! - you will love it!

    Thank you for showing us how to change colors of yarn easily. Not everyone knows how to use this trick. Everyone had to start at the beginning.
    Though it is true that this is an old pattern, you are showing us a different way to make the stitches with colors.
    There is always something a wise person can learn, even from something they thought they'd mastered long ago.
    A wise man once said that only a fool thinks they know everything. A smart person can always find room in his mind for more and different knowledge.
    This is a very interesting way of combining chains with the shell stitch to create a more intricate pattern. I like this interlocking variation on the shell stitch a lot. The Japanese stitchers are very innovative and I am grateful for your bringing a few of their techniques for us to use to freshen up our stitch techniques. I enjoy the stitching techniques coming from Eastern Europe, the Slavic countries and even from Russian crochet artists. These are very beautiful! You are a wise person, indeed, searching the world to learn new techniques to pass them along to us. Many thanks to you!
    Please do not take any derogatory comments to heart. As I foolishly proved to you myself, we Americans can and often do say hurtful things to others. Many times we think that we know everything already and we can't be taught anything new. This is neither accurate or wise, for there are a great many things we in the States do not know. Sadly, common courtesy seems to be one thing we have yet to learn and one which we need to learn most of all.
    On behalf of these people and myself, I offer my most humble apology, dear teacher. As the greatest Teacher of them all said, "they know not what they do."
    If these folks think you are teaching something they already know, let them go find some channel which suits them better. We will not notice that they have left.
    I will stay right here, for I know that, even after crocheting for nearly sixty years, I have still not learned all there is to know about crochet! enjoy seeing and learning the new techniques, inventive applications and upgrades on older stitches when I have the opportunity to do so.
    You are doing well, teacher. Your videos are clear, precise and well made. You incorporate changes as we request them and your patterns are fresh and new. If there is a similarity to older stitches, we will see that there are subtle differences as we watch you.
    Your channels are enjoyable and informative. Don't allow "haters" to bother you. They say bad things about everyone. Just ignore them!
    They will stop their mean words when they see that you don't care.
    You have any students who appreciate you. Let the others find the reward their words will bring.
    Much love and gratitude from Tennessee.🌹🧶💖

      You just need stiffer yarn. Frilly stuff is pretty all balled up but if you are free styling or looking for a uniform pattern then it’s just a matter of proper density + hook size. Plus chain stitches don’t mean anything, they blend in after the second row.

    • @PoesRaven1984
      @PoesRaven1984 8 месяцев назад +8

      One thing that helped me immensely before I cracked the chain tension mystery was to gauge up one or two hook sizes for my base starting chain, then switch to the recommended size hook. This keeps your foundation chain nice and loose so you can easily crochet into it with the smaller hook!

    • @scootermom1791
      @scootermom1791 8 месяцев назад +5

      You can actually get a tool online (or in a local craft store depending on your location) that helps you with your tension. It's a ring that you wear on your pointer finger that you thread the yarn through before you start crocheting.
      Most of the rings are cute enough to wear just for the fun of it! They aren't that expensive. Just search for "tension ring" or "yarn guide ring," and you should find something that works for you.
      I used to have super tight stitches as well. In fact, I still struggle with this sometimes (don't crochet when you're angry...lol). The above comments give a lot of good advice to solve this problem, too. 😊

      @@zoe0640 The fifth dimension is thought to be how gravity and electromagnetism interact. It is not detectable by humans.

    I read the comments and I believe that many of you are missing the "5d" aspect!! True that there are waves, however as an artist myself. One side looks like it has hearts bug and small!! 5D means that it holds multidimensional look with different patterns using the same materials and colors that can be manipulated to give it a different texture and style depending on the viewer in how they perceive it.
    Since I also crochet and have inherited it from my mom, i prefer simple patterns but I am willing enough to try new techniques and gain a headache or two. I dare anyone to sit down make a mandala Afghan, my mom sure as hell did and I could see her struggle with it despite her years of experience! And she did two of them none the less, still a feat though.
    Every pattern has its ups and downs, hard complicated parts and easy ones. Its through doing a pattern, you start to appreciate and see it come to life as you work through it.

    It's a very pretty pattern, but these finishing steps are always on my mind. Having been a crocheter since the age of 8, dealing with strands and edges are very much part of a patterns' finished look.

      I cut off the colored ones, not the white ones. When I cut off, I carefully hide the ends of the threads with a needle. I tie the edges with single crochets, then you can tie any border. I do not know English well, I use a translator.

    • @sashabell4700
      @sashabell4700 Год назад +1

      I bring the ones dropped up the border when I have had more than one color skein. And when an end has to be cut I run it across the row to crochet. Once a border is around it all, it helps hide all. Any sewn in ends I find easier to use a large plastic needle. There is a product as well to help keep ends stay hidden. I take the skeins and start making a ball, to assure not knots or weak places before I start. Plus it’s just easier in the long run. If you think you can find a piece of the yarn you put in a border later, that yarn can be used to mend it later on if need be. Learned tips from old crochet magazines.

      @Carla-ns8rx Год назад +9

      Section A
      Start making a chain, the number depends on the project you are doing but it must be a multiple of 4 ad then you add another chain. In the example she does 4*6= 24, 24+1= 25. , chain 3, * do a double chochet in the 4th stitch from the hook *, repeat form * to * 2 times , "do 4 double chochet in the 4th stitch from the hook", reperat from " to " until the last cluster of double crochet that olny has 3 double crochet and change colours in the last loop.
      Section B
      Second row chain 3 flip the work, the base chain between clusters of double crochet has 3 chains, so you do *one single crochet into the middle one, chain seven* and repeat form * to * until you have onli one cluster left, then you do 3 chains and a silp stitch on top of the last cluster, chain 3 and flip the work.
      return of second row : 2 double crochets on the same place you did the slip stitch. now you need to do 4 doble chochets inserting your hook in between the clusters of double crochet form the front colour and also the chain you just did on the back. And you repeat this clusters until the last one of the row. The last one is like in the first row, just 3 double crochet an a change of colour on the last loop.
      then you repeat section B until the end of time or until you run out of yarn or you achieve the desired length...
      A tip.... if you go to the setting of the video ( the little wheel that looks like a flower at the bottom right of the video ) you can set the video speed to go slower so you can count the stiches and where the hook goes.

      In crochet, there are a few basic stitches going from shortest to tallest. I suggest reading some beginner crochet books at your library. Then try a SS [Slip Stich] scarf working long rows. As opposed to knitting where you 'cast on' to start an item - in crochet, you make a specified number of 'chains' to begin an item. It's fun to create your own designs for scarves, shawls, headbands and hats by just varying the HEIGHT of the crochet stitch you use. You don't have to use a pattern to crochet items. Just like in knitting where you can make a scarf using only the garter stitch, in crochet you can make a scarf using only the DC [Double Crochet] stitch. Crochet DOES use more yarn than knitting. As a beginner, you could start with large yarn and a large crochet hook. For example #5 yarn and 8mm or 9mm hook. In crochet, it is much easier to rip out your work when you make a mistake or don't like something. There is only 1 hook needed to crochet vs. 2 needles needed to knit. Many crochet stitches can also mimic the look of rib knitting when you work in the 'back loop'. Have fun!

      As a knitter, I agree. Knitting is linear. When you start out, you can see where you are going. With crochet, you start with nothing and go anywhere you want! Multidimensional. Too many choices! But with this video, I could see well how the pattern was developed once the first few “fan” patterns were coming out of that first row. I really enjoyed the 3D-ness of this stitch, and how each color was anchored to two previous rows, not just one. It made for a sturdy looking piece, something that would not stretch out of shape as easily. And, boy, was it pretty! I would love to see this stitch made up in more color combinations. I will grant you the 4th Dimension, time, as the piece appears out of nowhere the longer you work on it, but I did not see any signs of Tesseract in the working of the yarns and needle. You have to give up that 5th “D!”

    • @mindylafler3456
      @mindylafler3456 Год назад +8

      You must not have counted correctly. It's a shell stitch. You make a shell in the center of the previous rows' shell. This is a more complicated way to get a shell to look something like a heart.
      Chain row is the foundation that the shell stitch is worked into. Each time a chain row is made, it is there to get to the opposite side where the shell is made. This is all done so the shell stitch is always facing up on the shell side, and when turned over, the chain row is the pattern.
      It really is not difficult. Start small, like the example. Make a chain of 25 stitches. That is your base. Then, chain 3 for your first double crochet (dc) stitch. Count to skip the 3 chain (ch) stitches you just made, and dc into the next ch st. Finish the shell, by making another dc in the same chain, then ch 1, and make 2 more dc in the same ch. Make the next shell by skipping 3 ch, and working into the next ch. Do this across. There should be 4 ch at the end, make a partial shell into the last ch, 3 dc in the last ch. You should have a completed row of shell stitches.
      It gets more complicated looking when the next color is added, but only in that the new foundation row is worked behind the last row of shells, and into the space between the shells using a single crochet (sc) and chain of 7.
      Each successive row is worked using both the foundation row and the shell rows together as if they are one.
      Contact me if you need more clarification.
