I just turned 80! I used to crochet many yrs ago. I have chemo fog & can't remember how to start a new row in Granny square. Have had several people who have helped me & I just don't remember even a few minutes later. I think I can do this pattern ok. Didn't know what the initials meant. Thank you.

why are you calling it a stitch. A stitch is a single crochet or Hdc, etc. When you have more than 1 stitch, several rolls its a pattern. Dont confuse beginners
You should check out Bag a day crochet she has great beginner crochet patterns that are really easy to do, I too am a beginner and her channel is amazing.
I think that would be a great idea! The texture and "ribbed" raised parts are excellent for washing dishes or for the bath! Why not crochet a square big enough to hold a bar of soap and see up 3 sides do you can slip the soap into a short side to wash with!?

Very good work ...crochet and camera. Sandy apparently didn't notice that the single stitches were worked in the back loop of each stitch...the hdb stitch was worked in both loops of each stitch. That gave the unusual and lovely look.🙂

My mom was in a car accident last year. She broke her right arm in in four places and broke her right shoulder. The doctors didn't think she would ever use it again.(she just turned 85)Mom absolutely loves to quilt and embroider and was heart-broken to learn she may never sew again. They were wrong!!! I used stringing beads in her physical therapy, along with her determined attitude, and have got her sewing beautifully once again! She has healed miraculously inside and out. If she can do it, so can you. You just have to want it bad enough. God speed!

@@spardhajkl9893 I think she is talking about stringing beads on a string like dental floss and needle. Or yarn and needle. Is uses many different nerves and muscles in the many movements. You would needed larger beads. Also a cribbage board with pegs is a good exercise. Doing these things build up strength and endurance.
I am just about to pick up crochet hooks for the first time. I feel have found a channel that will actually show me what the actual stitch is and how to form it rather than assume that you have that knowledge before you watch a video. I am bed bound with intractable migraine and several other disabilities so can’t just go find a teacher or group. Very nice video❣️😍🤩 I saw a similar stitch back in the 1980s, in an issue of Country Handcrafts magazine- it was a vest pattern. They made it with all half double crochet stitches on each row, and they worked through the back loops only, leaving a knit ribbed appearance on both sides of the work. It's a very beautiful stitch❣️ I like this version too, with a single crochet row in between each half double crochet row- it probably uses less yarn 😉 Thank you again for a great video 😊 I subscribed❣️😍🤩

My Grandma taught me this stitch and many others when I was ten years old. I made a Queen bedspread with my Grandma’s supervision at age 14. As a Grandma today, my hands get sore really fast after starting. It may be bc I have a genetic disorder causing my joints to easily dislocate due to a collagen defect. I still love this art❤️
You could possibly look into getting compression gloves. I am a young crocheter and my hands get sore after a bit too and I am looking into getting them as well. If you can't, I would give your hands adequate breaks so to not cause permanent damage.

The sc in Blo has actually been around awhile, ...in fact, as long as I have, at least, (about 73 years). My grandmother crocheted a little baby cloak for me, (born in late '49). She did the yoke of it in this stitch both ways which gave a nice rippled look, then crocheted the rest of it in a misc. shell and dc pattern. It's so beautiful that I display it on one of my soft sculptured dolls. Thanks for the lovely tutorial. I like your stitch variations and love your beautiful multi sherbet colored yarn!
I don’t understand the confusion… The pattern is very simple, and easy. One row is SC IN BLO, next row is HDC..CH1 at the end of each row, and turn your work. Easy. ❤

I must have missed that?). 🕊🙏❤️ NOTES JUST FOR BEGINNERS!❤️🙏🕊😘 ANYONE WHO IS A BRANDY-NEW BEGINNER👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 (great pattern for you to make someone you love either a lapghan or larger Afghan (begin the larger afghan by doing 128 chains across on the very first chaining row❤️). * There is a big difference in single crocheting (SC) into your starting chain and your subsequent rows. Since, in Row ONE, we are single-crocheting (SC) ONLY INTO CHAINS THERE IS NO BACK LOOP. So don’t drive yourself crazy looking for a back loop on that starting chain row, cause you won’t find one! Lol!😅😂🤣). We only single-crochet (SC) into each CHAIN! (CH) * Now I haven’t yet watched this tutorial all the way through, but it says it’s only a two-row pattern. So on every other row, (that will be repeating Row 2 (RPT ROW 2) you do only single crochets (SC) again; BUT, at that time, the repeat of the pattern will have us single crochet (SC) in the BACK LOOPS ONLY of the row we just finished, chained 1, and turned. There ARE back loops on regular crochet stitches you’ve made, not like the chains in the very beginning only! So watch and see that she will ONLY put her hook into the BACK LOOP of EACH the crochet stitches on the row before it!🕊❤️🙏🙋♀️ There are two “loops” on every crochet stitch you’ll be making......all “the back loop” means is that’s the loop furthest away from you! You will only insert your hook into the loop FARTHEST AWAY FROM YOU.....and then finish your stuck you’re making. That’s the Back Loop”! Easy when someone explains! * I’m not sure if this young lady speaks during the tutorial, so just a pointer about “HDC’s”. This is called a “HALF DOUBLE CROCHET”, and it means exactly what it says. (It’s only kinda half of a “double crochet (DC)....but since you’re new at THIS pattern right now, we’re only going to talk about doing the HDC. * Insert your crochet hook into the BLO (back loop only!) of the very next stitch you completed on the row before (it will be a SC single crochet); STEP 1. Before you insert your hook anywhere, wrap your loose yarn coming out of your skein around your hook only once STEP 2. Then take that and insert it all into both loops of the SC stitch from the row you did before....kind of with a smooth but jabbing motion STEP 3. While that’s all sitting there, now with the end of your hook, grab the loose yarn once.... STEP 4. And pull everything through your back loop ... YOU SHOULD HAVE THREE (3) LOOPS ON YOUR CROCHET HOOK!💜 STEP 5. Maybe the confusion is that the single crochet appears to be the under over sc that I use in amigurumi. I used to use over then over. Now I use under over for a lot of projects I love how using the back loop in this with the under over method is really nice. Thank you! I would never have thought of doing this.

You would needed larger beads. Also a cribbage board with pegs is a good exercise. Doing these things build up strength and endurance.

I am just about to pick up crochet hooks for the first time. I feel have found a channel that will actually show me what the actual stitch is and how to form it rather than assume that you have that knowledge before you watch a video. I am bed bound with intractable migraine and several other disabilities so can’t just go find a teacher or group. I saw a similar stitch back in the 1980s, in an issue of Country Handcrafts magazine- it was a vest pattern. They made it with all half double crochet stitches on each row, and they worked through the back loops only, leaving a knit ribbed appearance on both sides of the work. It's a very beautiful stitch❣️
I like this version too, with a single crochet row in between each half double crochet row- it probably uses less yarn 😉

My Grandma taught me this stitch and many others when I was ten years old. I made a Queen bedspread with my Grandma’s supervision at age 14.
As a Grandma today, my hands get sore really fast after starting. It may be bc I have a genetic disorder causing my joints to easily dislocate due to a collagen defect.
I still love this art❤️
You could possibly look into getting compression gloves. I am a young crocheter and my hands get sore after a bit too and I am looking into getting them as well. If you can't, I would give your hands adequate breaks so to not cause permanent damage.

The sc in Blo has actually been around awhile, ...in fact, as long as I have, at least, (about 73 years). My grandmother crocheted a little baby cloak for me, (born in late '49). She did the yoke of it in this stitch both ways which gave a nice rippled look, then crocheted the rest of it in a misc. shell and dc pattern. It's so beautiful that I display it on one of my soft sculptured dolls.

I don’t understand the confusion… The pattern is very simple, and easy. One row is SC IN BLO, next row is HDC..CH1 at the end of each row, and turn your work. Easy. ❤

ANYONE WHO IS A BRANDY-NEW BEGINNER👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 (great pattern for you to make someone you love either a lapghan or larger Afghan (begin the larger afghan by doing 128 chains across on the very first chaining row❤️).
* There is a big difference in single crocheting (SC) into your starting chain and your subsequent rows. Since, in Row ONE, we are single-crocheting (SC) ONLY INTO CHAINS THERE IS NO BACK LOOP. So don’t drive yourself crazy looking for a back loop on that starting chain row, cause you won’t find one! Lol!😅😂🤣). We only single-crochet (SC) into each CHAIN! (CH)
* Now I haven’t yet watched this tutorial all the way through, but it says it’s only a two-row pattern. So on every other row, (that will be repeating Row 2 (RPT ROW 2) you do only single crochets (SC) again; BUT, at that time, the repeat of the pattern will have us single crochet (SC) in the BACK LOOPS ONLY of the row we just finished, chained 1, and turned. There ARE back loops on regular crochet stitches you’ve made, not like the chains in the very beginning only!
So watch and see that she will ONLY put her hook into the BACK LOOP of EACH the crochet stitches on the row before it!🕊❤️🙏🙋♀️
There are two “loops” on every crochet stitch you’ll be making......all “the back loop” means is that’s the loop furthest away from you! You will only insert your hook into the loop FARTHEST AWAY FROM YOU.....and then finish your stuck you’re making. That’s the Back Loop”!

* I’m not sure if this young lady speaks during the tutorial, so just a pointer about “HDC’s”. This is called a “HALF DOUBLE CROCHET”, and it means exactly what it says. (It’s only kinda half of a “double crochet (DC)....but since you’re new at THIS pattern right now, we’re only going to talk about doing the HDC.
* Insert your crochet hook into the BLO (back loop only!) of the very next stitch you completed on the row before (it will be a SC single crochet); STEP 1. Before you insert your hook anywhere, wrap your loose yarn coming out of your skein around your hook only once
STEP 2. Then take that and insert it all into both loops of the SC stitch from the row you did before....kind of with a smooth but jabbing motion
STEP 3. While that’s all sitting there, now with the end of your hook, grab the loose yarn once....
STEP 4. And pull everything through your back loop ... YOU SHOULD HAVE THREE (3) LOOPS ON YOUR CROCHET HOOK!💜
STEP 5. Now again, grab the looser yarn that’s coming from your skein ONCE......kind of give it a tiny twist so the hook part is facing downward, and PULL EVERYTHING SLOWLY AND SMOOTHLY THROUGH ALL THREE LOOPS ON YOUR HOOK!
🕊❤️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Now you’ve made a Half Double Crochet! (HDC) 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
STEP 6. CH 1 and repeat the whole thing over again, this time in the NEXT stitch on the row you finished before.
I only write these out for brandy-new beginners, because I remember how hard I thought things were waaay back then; I was living with my Dad, and he never had even a sewing needle in his hand! Lol! I know it will help you.
* And as Sandy is so kind to remind us, DON’T FORGET TO CHAIN 1 (CH1) at the END of EVERY row (DISASTER!🤭) then TURN YOUR WORK before starting your next row! 🕊🙏😘❤️🌹🙋♀️
This is a super-duper pattern to use to make your first Afghan, baby blanket, etc.! I remember my very first afghan many, many MANY years ago (Lol!😅😂🤣), and THIS was the pattern! You don’t know how many times I had to rip out rows because I FORGOT to either CH 1 at the end of a row, OR (Ohhh Dreadful!!🙄) ) I had skipped a stitch when I was crocheting in the back loops only!!!
* So BEGINNERS! Work slowly! If you find yourself making several mistakes over again, it just might be time to put your work down and get some fresh air out of doors, maybe finish up your dishes 😫 ........just to put it down for like 5-10 minutes to rest your brain (and eyes! 👀),
you’ll be surprised how much better you do after a little break!❤️🌹

Maybe the confusion is that the single crochet appears to be the under over sc that I use in amigurumi. I used to use over then over. Now I use under over for a lot of projects I love how using the back loop in this with the under over method is really nice. Thank you! I would never have thought of doing this.
