The Colt Walker of 1847 signalled the real beginnings of the six shooter era. These massive pistols were usually meant to be carried on the saddle (pommel holster) rather than the hip. They have served as the preferred sidearm of some of Hollywood's most iconic characters including Robert Duval as Augustus McCrae in Lonesome Dove, Clint Eastwood as Josey Wales, and Kim Darby as Mattie Ross in the original True Grit.
This is a holster for a Walker designed to be carried on the hip. It's made of 13-15 ounce saddle skirting. Hand tooled and stamped and dyed a deep brown color and oiled with pure neatsfoot oil. Хобби
I LOVE this guy's videos. No music. No gimmicks. Just rock-solid craftsmanship.
It’s always a good day when one of your videos posts…I love your work!

Such talent and skill. 👏👏
Curious if he has ever made a pair of motorcycle chaps!
You going to do more videos?
Hi, my name is Emanuele Amorese and I would like to see a video on the making of a western saddle that recalled the 1880 models. I saw it two years ago and now it's no longer there. The saddle was colored dark brown and the rings were not anchored directly under the fork but were attached to the straps that passed over the fork.
I took that video down. I’m re-editing it and will re-post it sometime soon.
I look forward to seeing him again. Your videos are well made and make you really appreciate leather work.
That’s really nice: it’s always fun to watch one of your videos. What book did you use for you inspiration?
Looks like: "Packing Iron: Gun leather of the Frontier West," by Richard C. Rattenbury. Excellent reference, but a tad spendy.
Yeah I have the Packing Iron book, you can sometimes see it on the workbench or table in some of my videos. Fortunately I bought it a few years back when it was still affordable.
