    Great review/test, finally someone who can actually, properly start a fire and knows his materials, thank you for an informative video. Its the stove I will be purchasing!

    Always love your stove reviews! Another sweet setup for sure. That was a fair amount a water that you boiled up pretty rapidly for a natural fuel stove. The fact that it all nests together is awesome too. I presume being titanium it doesn't take too long to cool down?

      Thank you brother and happy belated thanksgiving to you and your family and God bless y'all. Now, to answer your question, no it doesn't take long at all to cool down. About 8-10 minutes for the stove to cool and about 5 for the pot once empty. It was about 20 degrees out during this test and the stove cooled down in about 8 minutes flat. I love the concept, I'm gonna run it for a few weeks and find the sweet spot for gasification. I'll definitely post a follow up.

    I like the way this stove handles the burn chamber ventilation.
    That design may be difficult on the manufacturing side but I think it is the best.

    I have the small one and it’s great it just needs to be loaded how you loaded yours and it’s great. Takes a while to get going but once it does it’s great. For the weight size, and free fuel it’s hard to beat. It also has kept me warm under a tarp on adverse conditions before

    With wet wood the prosess get harder, but it is one of the better twigoven if you have to use semidry wood. The chamber get so hot that it dries wood fast.

    Great video. I wonder if laying a couple tent stakes flat and lifting the bottom further from the ground would give even cleaner burn. Lots of people say this stove is starved of oxygen. I keep thinking this must be one of the better backpacking wood stoves because its tall and has more of the chimney effect potential. I've also seen some stoves with battery powered fans like the lofi wood stove that burn much hotter and completely smokeless so more air intake must be better!

    • @pedroclaro7822
      @pedroclaro7822 9 месяцев назад +1

      more air flow is better for more heat and less smoke. that's 100% the reason behind a poor wood fire. My house's wood stove is proof of it. I can even burn damp wood as long as I preheat the stove/chimney, and then open the air intakes all the way.
      You can also see it by analizing different fire making methods.
      These stoves need
      #1 foil on the ground to prevent ground moisture from evaporating and dampening the fire. That also helps prevent spreading the fire to the ground.
      #2 wood as dry as possible. with larger pieces of wood you can literally shave the outside to remove outter damp layers.
      #3 prestacking it with wood
      #4 a first fire as hot as possible to kickstart the pyrolysis. I stack it to the brim with twigs and kindling, and only put the pot on after it has subsided a little.
      #5 optional: As I use an alcohol stove as backup, I'll often times preheat the stove (with wood inside) by burning just a little alcohol under the burn chamber. Like a spoonful of alcohol will make a huge difference.

    That is a groovy cook kit, but I think I'll stick to my alcohol stove. Wood may not be easy to gather when it's white out conditions or a downpour.

    • @BackpackDad
      @BackpackDad  2 года назад +1

      Coal cracker bushcraft just posted a video on this very topic. You can in fact source material in any condition but you're correct, it won't be easy. An alcohol stove works well in winter conditions, but what happens when you run out of alcohol? Why not use this or the smaller one as a wind screen and back up option? Never know when you may need a woodburning stove, this works great as a windscreen for a trangia or cat can stove.

    How do you reduce the smoke? My small wood stove from toaks smokes like a chimney. Don't matter of the woods is wet or dry.

    • @BackpackDad
      @BackpackDad  2 года назад +2

      Leave a gap between the wood you're burning to allow airflow to burn upwards unimpeded. Think rocket propulsion. You're allowing the fuel to burn with the air being directed in one direction. Smoke is minimal and you gain maximum burn efficiency. I'll make another video soon showing the process.

    • @erlendhansen9246
      @erlendhansen9246 9 месяцев назад

      Dont fill it to much, and the moist wood must have really good airflow.
