That is a terrible shame about those certain rubber buttons… these are the Casios that got me started into collecting Casio’s!! 😊 my favourite is the CA-80 that you have in brown, again I appreciate the video 🎉 thanks Lee!!
A year ago I bought a ca503 (space invaders): practically nos with film on the keyboard. I practically never wore it for fear of ruining it. And now watching this video made me worry even more..😢…For "common" collectors like me it is not easy to find such a piece and at an acceptable price
17:00 I actually had that Casio Databank as a teenager back in the 80’s or something very similar maybe in black or both, I probably still have the worn out main case somewhere. The styling was cool at the time altough a bit nerdy.
I've seen videos of people using the keypad from a new Casio CA53W to fix there older Casio keypads. I bought 2 vintage Casio calculator watches from 2 different sellers and had to return them because of this kepad issue - CA-502 and the CA-505. I do own a few Casio calculator watches like the DBC-600 , DBC-61 , DBC-610 , DBC-600G with the flat keypad. I also have a DBC-W150 with the wave ceptor feature.
Abraços do Sul do Brasil.
Just an aside Lee, but on topic. Make sense of that mate!🤪 I’ve just received my NOS Speed Trainer from you this arvo here in Oz! It’s absolutely stunning! I’m wearing it now. Thanks for this beautiful time piece!😎👍🏼🇦🇺 P.s. This is an unpaid, unsponsored review!😂
It’s very frustrating. I have a few good, vintage Casio calculator watches, including a Metcon, and the buttons are the weak link. And you’re absolutely right - the 3-D printed replacements are trash.
Absolutely fantastic viewing, well done! I have a DBC-150b that I honestly can't remember where I got it from. I've had it a very long time. I put a new battery in it last week. The issues it has is the illuminator, lights up about 1/4 of the screen and the calculator pad doesn't seem to work at all sadly. From memory that all happened after I had given it to someone to get a battery. Is there a place to get parts or a group that can show repair schematics or diagrams? I'm very capable these days repairing watches that aren't so different, I've built Seiko mods etc.. I trust myself to open it up if I knew a bit more on how the keypad connects to the module as an example.
Omg. This explains a lot!! Rubber and degradation! Who knew?! I can assure you I know of several kids who owe the fact that they’ve come into due to this degradation!
I have a 3D printing and silicone mould making business. I could make extremely high quality replacement buttons if you were interested. The buttons are probably rotting because the are off gassing and they are kept in their original boxes. I just had a look and it seems that you can get new Casio calculator watches. Could you swap the new buttons into the old cases?
I put a battery into a CASIO TC-600 & the screen fell out(came off) :D That gasket(I think it's called) holding the glass in was deteriorating to :-/ I wonder why I bother sometimes I really do :D
It's so sad that DBX-100 gets like that :( :( :( + If CASIO bought out a version the same(exactly the same) I'd buy a million of'em :P :D Excellent video as always ;)
Huh i had a newer one with different buttons but that one after it stopped and had a jeweler put a new battery in and worked for a few days but then it stopped working... never actually chosen to get one since, like yeah they work very long but it would not accept working with the new batteries. And here in Holland there is no casio service for that style, it's the harder rubber style of calculator watch and that didn't fail on me...
Having googled it, it's the casio vintage bdc-32d-1aes databank calculator watch. For some reason that rubber(wich is harder and actually clear over a black and red surface but it was quite good)
This happens with everything that is made out of that kind of rubber material... I mean i have an original Gameboy and Gameboy color from the 90,s and the plastic buttons are good... But the rubber ones are rotten... Rubber rots really fast... Even in 2 years or less.
It's heartbreaking, isn't it? You only want them to last your lifetime but they usually won't. You can extend their life by storing them out of the light and not using them, but they're not meant to last more than a few decades.
so what's the purpose of collecting, having those things if you're not able to use it properly? Definitely I don't want to offend you or anyone but what's the point of having it? If you press some buttons whole thing will become a mashed potato 😊 so... why? Casio didn't think about having a watch 45 years in one piece but there was a lot of enthusiasts who made for example beautiful bezels for G's, since cases was SS, and those things are perfectly usable today, after 41 years that will never be a same price range as Rolex, no matter what you think or what's your (or mine) cup of tea.. there's some legacy always involved... our personal preference has absolutely nothing to do with it. To be honest, I would be very happy to have some Longines automatic no matter what 😊... since I think Longines made some watches approx 150 years before first Casio watch was invented, that's something is it?
It is very surprising that a Casio collector is wanting to sale the most emblematic first Casio calculators. Maybe because you’re not attached to the 80’s. What a pity for your collection. You will regret but it’s going to be too late. You don’t wear these watches so there’s not a risk whatsoever. I do have the C-80, CFX-20 and the CA-86 and they are OK and I wear them gently.
You mean upgrade to a brand thats boring. Most tissot do the same as any other watch brand. Borrring!! Citizen is an excellent watch brand. Casio today are horrible. Casio 80s and 90s where the best in the world
That is a terrible shame about those certain rubber buttons… these are the Casios that got me started into collecting Casio’s!! 😊 my favourite is the CA-80 that you have in brown, again I appreciate the video 🎉 thanks Lee!!
Yup,i have some casios, and those calculator watch buttons just fall apart ,not all models but some of them.

Same Prob here. the humdaity is More than 70% and its killing most of them :(

If it makes your heart flutter you may need to get out more Lee!! 😂😂😂

Love the calculator pace runner watch sting wore the same exact watch on the classic police album cover very iconic

My opinion is that it is better to use them regularly to prevent it from spontaneous disintegration.
I wonder why they couldn't have used more solid plastic buttons as their calculators seem to last forever!
Dumb question maybe but isn't the keyboard of the current CA53 compatible with some of those ?
im not sure.
'by the way, if you are bored you can just flick off the channel' 😄 this is what we love
yeah, I snuck out at the first commercial ha ha.
haha, honest lee they call me
@@Oldcasiocollector Always use reverse psych imo - works every time, I'll stay until the bitter end.

i had the same watch happen to me. the joys
@Oldcasiocollector I didn't realise that bit would go to 👍 You live & learn I guess :D 😎

These rubber pushers models should kept at zero water in air place ,than it will kept perfect .
plastic degrades slower in cold tempritures , keep them out of direct sunlight , or in the refridge
Hmmm... 🤔
if they want to fix this problem, i think they should replace the buttons with ones on the "Ripley" Casios.
It’s sad because they 80s Casio calculator watch are my favourite watches
❤❤❤...
Those rubber buttons were definitely not made with longevity in mind.
Huh i had a newer one with different buttons but that one after it stopped and had a jeweler put a new battery in and worked for a few days but then it stopped working... never actually chosen to get one since, like yeah they work very long but it would not accept working with the new batteries. I think mine was new from the story yet i think the model is like a decade old at the time that was what i could find of it...
Having googled it, it's the casio vintage bdc-32d-1aes databank calculator watch. For some reason that rubber(wich is harder and actually clear over a black and red surface but it was quite good)
data bank jest wyjątkowo piękny😍szkoda że uszkodzony😢
Watching in 2025 Casio Digital watches are the best good brand in the world
I have a touch screen calculator casio..
This happens with everything that is made out of that kind of rubber material... I mean i have an original Gameboy and Gameboy color from the 90,s and the plastic buttons are good... But the rubber ones are rotten...
Rubber rots really fast... Even in 2 years or less.
Also I remember owning the Casio tv remote thing watch... And the button is are made of hard plastic... I think it hold up better than rubber

because casio made 1000s of watches. they are not all like this. if you watch the channel, you will see 95% of casios are perfect
It's a shame that this happens to a CASIO WATCH.

You mean upgrade to a brand thats boring. Most tissot do the same as any other watch brand. Borrring!! Citizen is an excellent watch brand. Casio today are horrible. Casio 80s and 90s where the best in the world
