- We dig into the HorseTV Global Archives to bring you the history and heritage of the American Paint Horse. It is a breed of horse that combines both the conformational characteristics of a western stock horse with a pinto spotting pattern of white and dark coat colors, developed from a base of spotted horses with Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred bloodlines.
At the barn I volunteer at, we have an American Paint horse gelding known as Shiloh. He has chestnut coloring, and his pattern is Overo. He is such a sweet boy. We also have a mare known as Opal. She's sassy, but sweet. She's dark bay, and has no paint pattern, but she's registered as an American Paint horse, so yeah.

great horses
Growing up my dad owned a few paint horses we have one with a rare color he use to be a stud before we got him, the previous owner tried to breed him and get the same rare color trait but it didn’t go the way she thought it was going to go so she got him gelded and now his rare color is lost to the world, normal paints have blue or brown eyes, no not him he has gold eyes and gold accents in his mane and tail, and his coat is a rusty brown color
That was a super stupid decison.

What difference between american paint and apoloosa
Appaloosas have spots, Paints have splotches. Both are unique. No two are alike. Also, the colors of both can be on different breeds. They are both a color and a breed, but both breeds are different, in pattern and personality. One thing is for sure though: Both breeds are American.
