A couple of thoughts. I have seen this strap used with the Rotopax mounted at 10 and 2 o'clock or a little higher. It clears the tailgate handle and the tail light. Put the ratchet at the top of the tire and use a velcro wrap to attach the excess strap to the ratchet.
A nice product from RSE.
Loved the thorough review! Gonna wheel my new JL next weekend and gonna grab the mount for water and fuel.
A friend of mine had a pair of 2 gallon Rotopaxs on while we were in Moab for the Easter Jeep Safari. He had them spaced on the upper half of the spare as was mentioned by rsbmg. Worked great. He also has a Master lock similar to an old bicycle lock to secure the ratcheting strap to prevent theft. Nice set up and very solid. You could also cut and melt the strap to the length needed (the down side is if you need more strap in the future you could come up short).
Thanks so much for this man! I may do this on my jeep. Got a new roof rack and it's interfering with my current setup.
Awesome. Thank you for show us this video
Very helpful video. Exactly what was looking for
Great Video! This is exactly what I been looking for! Thank you
That is something I might do. Thanks for showing this.
Great video!
Very helpful. Thanks for sharing!
Well done.
Love it, getting one. Thanks.
Good job
This is a great idea.
Nice I just ordered a set😊
Thanks man. I got confused setting it up:/ Got it now.
Thanks for the video
Well explained cool 😎
Nice setup looking to do the same but I'm hoping that I could mount the traction boards on one side and the rotopax on the other
Awesome thanks!!
How did you attach your max traxx boards?
You can mount it a little bit on the top side of the tire to have access to the handle.
Are there any concerns about the added weight on the tailgate that carrying either one or two rotopax filled with gasoline, might add? As mine currently sits, I have a 37" tire and I am using a reinforcement kit (more like a weigh distribution kit) designed to distribute the extra weight of a larger tire, more evenly across the tailgate. I've read somewhere that the max weight that the JL tailgate can handle, stock, is around 105lbs and I think I'm right around that weight with my current spare wheel and tire setup. I just ordered this kit from Rockslide Engineering and am hoping I don't have to do any further modifications but sounds like I might, or else, I risk damaging my factory tailgate and hinges. Thoughts?
Just curious but couldn't you reverse the mount so that the excess strap is above the tire? Its really no biggie I guess, you could always make/pickup a velcro strap and roll up the excess strap that way.
Excellent thanks for sharing
Nice video, but what stop someone from removing the pax from the tire ? Yes the rotopax locks on but seems you can just remove the strap going around the tire.
Awesome vid!!! Gonna order it but is there any way to lock in the canisters? Just in case someone has sticky fingers?
What do you do with a flat tire and you need to use your spare? Will this hold on a flat as well?
so how do you mount your traction boards there?
Do you think a 3Gal roto paz would fit?
Can a 4.5 gallon Rotopax work with the straps and a rear Garvin wilderness basket work?
... and when you get a flat and need to use your spare, where go the rotopax and strap?
So I am curious about the maxtrax mount... info?
What size tires do you have?
👍🏻 nice !!!
How did curiosity how did your mouth the max traxx?
Can you mount a high jack to that?
Thanks for the video man. So with those gas cans full, how many more miles do you get if you need to use both of them at the same time? I hope that makes sense.
Each can is 2 gallons. So 4 gallons total. Avg 18-20 mpg. About an extra 70-80 miles.
Great question.
Nice! Did you use the trasharoo straps to keep the maxxtrax mounted?
BHOMBS they're ROK Straps, you can find them on amazon. These are the longer straps for atvs and motorcycles. Works great!
I like your tires, how many inches are they?
Nice stuff where I can buy the strap link not working let me know thank you!
Can you put the ratchet on top?
Will it fit on a 2002 jeep liberty?
Great idea, but what if you get a flat, you change it out, and your spare tire is flat. Will it tighten up enough to hold the weight? I need to figure something out carry more fuel but not sure if this is the answer.
Howski then you put the gas in your tank and leave everything on the side of the road.
Good video. How did you mount your traction boards? I have everything on the roof now and access isn’t easy.
Thanks, in this video i used some Rok Straps for motorcycle/atvs. You can find them on amazon.. stretch straps with a buckle.. tied around the spokes of the tire and through the holes on the traction board. I have a new way of mounting them now with a ARB Tred Pro bracket bolted to the ez rack. You can see how they look in a recent video.
I made it ( 3 pieces ) and, it cost 33 riyals. It equals 11 $ . With laser cut. 👌🏻🔥
Make a viseo please. I was thinking the same thing.
Do you know if they're ever going to make a mount for the jl to have a rack up ontop of the tire and Jerry can mounts??
John Korn yes they will
great video. would a 3 gallon rotopax gas fit on the passenger side?
Thanks, i dont think a 3 gallon rotopax would fit. The 2 gallon is is 18 inches up and down and, and 13 inches wide and Its about an inch away from the body. The 3 gallon is 15 inches wide, so i dont think itll fit. If you have a rear tire relocation bracket from SmittyBilt or GoRhino then it could possibly fit because itll space out your spare a good couple inches from the body. Currently im running the rough country relocation bracket and itll only allow enough space for a 2 gallon rotopax.
Does the mount come with hardware screws n bolts to mount it on the EZ RACK ?
Rack just comes as the rack and strap. Youll need to purchase the rotopax mounting hardware to mount the rotopax
does ur window closes/open with gas can on? mine hits a bit i have to move can forward
It does sometimes, depends on where i position the rotopax tho
Good Video. Can you do one on how you mount your MaxTrax?
Ill do one yes very soon. Simple and will only cost you $20 bucks.
I would have liked to see the pax mounted at the 10 and 2 'oclock position.
Ever find it anywhere mounted that way?
Any way this can loosen up and fall off??? Looks good and priced okay.
Its not coming off. It's been through very high speeds and steep trails. Very sturdy. No worries at all
Do you have any issues not using the rotopax circular mount piece? I see you went directly on to the mount, i assume with a washer. Trying to set up the same system.
No issues. Didnt need it. The predrilled holes on the Rockslide Eng rack made it easy.
@@BillyOnroad thanks so much!
What happened to these?
Awesome!
Where did you get the camera in the center of the tire? Is that factory?
it is factory on the JL
Felix Sherman they do have aftermarket cameras like this for the JK also. Just an FYI
@@americanpatriot8996 It would be nice to find one with the center camera mount for my spare!
In cold weather the air pressure in the tire decreases. Could that result in gas cans coming loose as the strap becomes less tight?
It's pretty snug with the ratchet strap.. even if it did lose a couple psi.. its never happened to me where I've had to retighten the strap.. but before every trip with it on i do check to ensure its snug.
@@BillyOnroad I notice the second red can you put on you have the handle of the can toward the rear door. I think I would do that with both cans and then put a second strap connecting each of the cans handle running behind the tire as an extra safety measure to help keep the cans from falling off. That second strap could be a plastic coated bike cable with a lock to help prevent theft if it also went through the rim of the tire. Thanks for taking the time to show the mounting. It really looks like an easy and quick way to add storage space on the road.
How did you mount the maxtrax?
Rok Straps on amazon
What's the orange thing on the back
Traction boards
Will this work on a 2005 Wrangler TJ?
If it has a spare tire... it's universal.
I like your set up but could not find it on Amazon, only the cans and clips. I will get one if I can find one.
Rock Slide Engineering EZ rack kit
The internet is bigger than Amazon mate.
Your link to their product is broken.
How well does it do on a flat tire?
I guess this could fit on a JK as well no?
Any spare tire
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Why not just use a regular ratchet strap and find a mounting plate for much cheaper ?
This type of ratchet just feed a bit so it can turn and ratchet all will roll and you will not have anything left.
Buen video, Quiza puedas agregar y fijar una placa de metal tambien a los hoyos de la placa original y la instalas hacia afuera para que quepa el otro galon de gasolina en el lado izquierdo..
can you lock those for security??? looks like they can be easily stolen while youre in line for a mc donalds cheesburger!
So that's the only way to mount them with a strap on the tire ? If so I don't like it
Jeff Prevett then dont buy it.
Someone could steal that quick fast and in a hurry. That's the bad part.
Well, they could still the content, and once used - placed the original product back. Haha
@@r9p0m7p8 haha!
Where on the trail do you encounter someone stealing your gas can. I see this as you fit to your rig before hitting the trail and not leaving it on to be a mall crawler.
Rotate your Rotopax higher on the tire and they won’t interfere with the handle opening up your Jeep.
Do not like the way they melt with that strap around the spare I'm not going to do that
Melt?
Jeff Prevett what the hell are you talking about mate? Melt?
Looks like they are no longer made by this company.
Cool, but obviously you never used a ratchet strap before, all timid and scared 😱 😂😂
Could you mount 2 Two Gallon rotopax on one side? Is that just a different length mount or something?
Rotopax does make an extension mount allowing for 2 containers but I think you would still be in the same situation. It looks like a second container on the right side would place some where close to the tail light. You may have to remove one of the containers in order to open the door. If that isn't enough, the extension could pose a problem as well. It maybe long enough that it limits the amount of area you can open the door. This is all just hypothetical guessing on my part though. I personally wouldn't have an issue removing a fuel can on the left side in order to open the door, this would give me an additional 2gls.
