Just turned mine back on today. I loved the secondary display you could get a quick look at texts and notifications. Had an awesome It blaster that could replace your remote control. Lgv20 was my 1st lg phone and I have been strictly lg ever since.
I loved LG and am sorry they are no longer in the mobile phone business. Their devices were unique, from the Quad Dac audio to the little leather jacket they put on some versions of the G4 to the manual camera modes. I still have my V20 which has found new life as a replacement for the TV remote my sister list when she moved. I liked how LG took risks and were innovative with their devices. RIP LG.
In terms of utility, the LG V20 was the best in 2016-17. And my mom's V20 is still going strong in 2022. She's on her 3rd battery, and it's lasting her days on a charge. LCD screen means no burn in
I remember switching from an S5 to this phone and being extremely impressed by it. The manual camera mode, dual screens, hi fi quad dac, excellent live sound recording, wide angle rear camera that also recorded video, and built in tv remote all made it so unique and fun. Been hooked on the v series ever since. Hopefully LG doesn't stop making phones after the V60, but I will admit Samsung and Apple are catching up to LGs innovations. The biggest downside to the V20 imo was not being able to see the LCD screen at all in direct sunlight
This is right around when LG sucked me into I didn't get a v-series until the V 40 which was an amazing phone and then I got the v60 which is still my daily driver
I have had my V20 since 2016. I've held onto it because 1) removable battery - I put in a 10000 mh(?) because this is the device I use for everything. 2) SD card. 3) 2nd Screen - I love it. It's one reason I don't want to give it up. 4) I have a lot of notes in the Memo+ and I don't think they will transfer to another device. I'm really thinking about getting a new one from ebay. The charging port might be going on this one. Many things that people comment on don't bother me. I don't play fast games. The screen resolution is good imo - but that's just me. I wish LG would still upgrade this phone, but it doesn't. Still, for me, it operates very will. I don't want to go to Apple. Except for starting out with a Blackberry, i've used Android exclusively. I had several Samsung Notes when they launched, but I had no need for the S-pen. While other phones have new glitzy features that would be fun, they don't have the features that are my favorites. If they did, I'd upgrade. SD slot and removable battery are dealbreakers, particularly the battery. As I said, I use a huge extended one, and my phone is a brick but it lasts all day; I text, watch YT vids, play several [low tech] games, take some pics, check Smart News, IG, text, phone calls, etc. I have android tablets and even an iPad mini. Only rarely do I use them. This is my everything.
Honestly I think it's the best phone ever made. I love this phone so much that I've got a brand new one in the box waiting on my original I bought in 2017 to die.
@@dnews9519 yep - when my pension comes in July (June's is spoken for) I'm going to get one. I do recommend the extended battery. Yes, it makes the phone heavy but knowing it can last a day or two with heavy use is comforting. I seldom use a tablet anymore, and I don't own any sort of laptop. Only this phone and my black/white kindle. I love the 2nd screen because I mostly text and can immediately see who's texting and some of what they say. I can also customize a few apps to keep there. Besides a calculator for when I'm in my banking, I have a password protection app, and post it's shortcut there as well. I can easily open it up when I need a password.

This video does not do this phone justice. "Aluminum feeling back"??? It's made from albuminum lmao 😂 it says so on the inside of it. As a hardcore user, i found this phone phenomenal at what I used it for. It took better photos than my note 10+. Androids can be rooted, which gives you unlimited capabilities with the secondary screen. I have 2 of them, and still use them for photography, work, and it has a quad dac that gives the ability to use higher ohm headphones. There's a million reasons why it's worth it. There's 3rd party backs that have a hump and allow a 10,000 mAh battery, bigger than any phone today. And you can swap the batteries, which flagship phone does that today?

One of the last US flagships that still had an IR blaster. That, along with removable battery, expandable memory, NFC, headphone jack with HiFi DAC and manual controls for photos _and_ video make this a standout. The only downside is IPS panel, no wireless charging and topping out at Pie in terms of modern features. That, and of course LG folding their smartphone tent. I'm going to pick one up to try out as a daily driver.
Was my old primary phone. Starting using it again as a secondary phone because my s9 is cooked. It still looks new. Just a little laggy but it works. The build quality is top notch!!
Had an LG V20 for over 5 years. Actually just got a Pixel 6 today. Great phone, served me very well. I replaced the battery once about 2 years ago and really extended the life of it. Also, wasn't the Note of that year the Note 7? Idk if I'd call exploding outperforming.
Just bought two new OEM batteries for less than 20 bucks. Gonna keep using the v20 until I cant anymore. External battery charger so i always have a fully charged battery to swap in. Also 2tb sd card is godly.
To think a 5 year old phone still had a gpu thats more powerful than most new phones today with the SD 820 and the 845 is still ranked 11 compared to all mobile GPU's...
You missed a lot of the benefits of this phone, such as becuase you can replace the battery you are not stuck at 3200mAh, over time battery tech gets better and we can fit more power in the same space, so when I replaced my battery in 2018 I got a 4500mAh battery for like £20 that fit in the same form factor. All the components in the phone are very easy to replace, you can buy all the components super cheap and take the entire phone apart with a set of screwdrivers and a spudger. I only ever ran Nova launcher, software was fine, it had great q slide features ut could run apps in windows, like the calculator ontop of a notes app with a transparency it was super useful! The software had support for split screen multitasking before andoid did and it worked better than android does now. It had dual sim AND micro SD, which is what's actually rare (lots of phones will give you one or the other). Eugh I can't gush enough about what a masterpiece the V20 is, if it could be upgraded with a SD 888 I'd be using it for another 5 years. And the second screen isn't pointless it's literally just a notch like every phone today, you can configure it so it always shows time and notification icons which gives your main screen more space!
How young is this kid? He talks about a metal back that's removable, and access to the battery like they they're things from generations past. The phone has some years on it, but it's not from a whole different era in human history.
I believe he's just highlighting the last time a phone was like that was over 10 years ago or so, personally I also love that about the phone, personal privacy is big for me at times...
Looking at getting this phone now (in 2022) used and as a dedicated HD music player. It's Quad DAC (ESS Sabre ES9218) is acknowledged to rival lower tier HD music player. Plug in your MicroSD card full of music files, install Neutron MP (a premier HD player), possibly install some streaming, internet radio and podcast apps and you've a one stop portal for all your audio needs.
Just looked on offer up & found one that just popped up for $50, phone just broke & right now I'm lookin for a temporary phone until I can find something better. This video definitely made up my mind on whether or not to buy the phone...no doubt seems like a great phone for $50. Thank you for making this, I really appreciate it. 🙏👍
The secondary screen was a way of having an always on display without it killing battery. But yeah it was also IPS. It would have made more sense if it was a tiny OLED or even EInk display considering what it was supposed to be doing. But that was what they were going for. Overall it's screens were a pretty big power hog. Trying to charge it was the screens on was pretty much impossible. Best case it would just stop going down. Worst case it would still go down but it would go down more slowly. But this being the last flagship from a high end maker with a user repaceable battery has seen this phone have a pretty cult following. A lot of people still use them, root them, rom them. They perform pretty well with those upgrades.
My Note 9 Died on me so I switched back to my v20 H918, I also wasnt really a fan of LG's ui so I installed LOS (Lineage OS) 18.1 on it, and with no bloatware it really brings out the phones full potential, Although if you do try to install be aware you risk bricking your phone so this is not for the faint of heart.
@@sayukimakoto2095 While the AOSP camera app that comes with LOS is pretty good in quality it does take a second or 2 to process the image, also keep in mind that you do lose some features with the pre-installed camera, I haven't bothered to install other camera apps.
It's not a second screen, that was just bad marketing. The V20 has a 6.1" IPS screen with a corner notch taken out for the selfie camera. It functions just like the notch area on a modern phone, showing time and notif icons and freeing up space on the main body of the screen.
I thought the LG V10 only had that prototype Dynamic Island thing, turns out the LG V20 also had that. This makes the Honor V20 the third phone to have that concept.
The software is a big problem for me as well. Some of the apps I want to use are not available, and some that are available are buggy and laggy. This phone does more than 80% of what I need it to do, but when it fails, it is really frustrating. I think it's time to upgrade. I replaced the original battery with a higher-capacity battery, so that is not a problem.
I used mine from 2016 to 2020, replaced everything very easily with cheap parts from witrigs, only problem is the CPU is too slow by today's standards. On a V50S dualscreen now and it's amazing, I miss being able to take the back off though. The secondary display is the same screen, it's just a big 6" screen with a NOTCH. LG were yhe first to do the notch with the V10.
Still have mines just to play around with and for use as an emergency back up to my back up. Just lags some and the battery life sucked. I eventually had to buy an extended battery for it. LG has had some great innovative products but thier marketing was bad. Now they will no longer make phones which is a shame.
Depends on your tolerance. At 1 year battery holds 80% of what it couldve brand new. If you can still hold out, I got a battery thats 4 years old and lasts just 1 day while my new off-brand battery lasts a week.
The more I use it the more I enjoy its features.. Replaced the battery 2 times already, the screen once (the original one had ghosting), and more recently upgraded the mobo to a dual sim. A 10Kwh pack battery make it last 3 days without charge. As an audiophile with a sweet iem pairing it makes flac and video watching a blast. I had to un-root the device because for some reason it was buggy but I miss that.
Hello! I'm thinking of upgrading my LG V20 to Iphone 11 this year... would this be a worth upgrade? (btw my lg v20 is still working fine besides its volume buttons. I only changed its battery once)
I am thinking of ugrading to this phone from my galaxy Note 3 with Lineage OS. Note 3 is perfect phone but it's falling apart, I was thinking of upgrade to Note 4 or LGV20? Which one do people recomend?
You will lose the quad dac and possibly VoLTE, switching to LineageOS Pie and newer with the V20. I'd check those two things first before deciding. Carriers are phasing out 3G and some have already started requiring VoLTE for activation.
@@dnews9519I recommend getting something that can do Pie. I bought a V20 to replace a rooted Note5 so I could use the Qudelix 5k (a pocket bt dac/amp) software that requires v8 Oreo. Using a rooted Stock rom keeps the Quad-Dac, Volte and be ability to use JamesDSP. Great that works now, though it's much slower being a quad core vs octo core on the Note5. In my usage the V20 is superior to the Note5/4/3 since it natively supports BT LDAC, USB audio and the Quad-DAC is just the icing on the cake since it only makes a difference when using the headphone jack. The Quad-DAC does not have enough power for Planars. Now I that I have a few sets of headphones and iem's I want to use Wavelet (Auto-EQ in Android), an android app to get equalizer settings for over 3k headphones/IEMs. That requires android v9 Pie, there isn't a V9 Volte compatible rom for the V20. It's always something.
Love my V20. Biggest issue by far for me is the horrific screen ghosting. It's alleviated by using Ghost Screen but not completely. Otherwise, awesome phone!
I had a G2 and a G4 before I bought a 2nd hand one of these.. Was pretty happy with it till I went through one of those damn LG bootloops. The best phone ever made to have a removable battery. But that bootloop though... Dayummmm. Had to peace out from LG after that.

Just ordered a new LG V20 phone DS version. Hope it arrives and is usable because I'm getting so tired of the Shift mq6 I bought. What a madness that has happened on the Mobile marked these last many years.
I think there are brand new fakes on the market. 100 to 150 brand new sealed in the box is questionable. Poor signal indoors. Gps cannot find you if you activate it on the move, you have to stop, get located and then move. I wouldn't buy it.
Pretty much use this phone as a primary music player. If someone wanted a music player with a replaceable battery then I think it is a pretty great value. I would also recommend it for its video out but the issue is the throttling when charging. Still decent for emulation on a big screen with a hub but if you have the current Chromecast you have a cheaper better option. Wonderful device in 2021... But not phone in 2021. Edit: oh and ADB debloat is a pain.

In terms of utility, the LG V20 was the best in 2016-17. And my mom's V20 is still going strong in 2022. She's on her 3rd battery, and it's lasting her days on a charge. LCD screen means no burn in
same,,, exactly the same time length and battery life. lol
My lg v20 was getting burn in. It's a problem actually.
The biggest downside to the V20 imo was not being able to see the LCD screen at all in direct sunlight
the LG v20 can't scan barcode with the camera. bummer!
@@nivasylstrongman4352 you can probably get an app that will do that though
@@thesuppcollector Sure can. There have been apps to let a phone take a snapshot of a bar code and the software scans it since like android 3.
ok, upside to living in a place where direct sunlight is very rarely an issue
This is right around when LG sucked me into I didn't get a v-series until the V 40 which was an amazing phone and then I got the v60 which is still my daily driver
Phone is a Beast to the Right Owner. Still using It today for everything. Never updated, Always Awesome.
Dont update, the new Android you can put on it cripples the phone, LG truly rushed it
I have had my V20 since 2016.
I have a password app too. And, just ordered a brand new, unlocked one from ebay for under $150.
I hear you, brother
@@michaellindqvist5288 I just last week set up my brand new, factory-sealed LG V20 purchased on eBay for under $150. My cranky old one will be a backup in an emergency. Didn't even need a new SIM card.
Why am I still using it on 2021?
You omitted:
Programmable IR blaster;
Integrated quad DAC and headphones port/jack;
1440p screen;
Military grade aluminium frame/body AND the back cover;
Display sharing via usb to HDMI adapter (also any other wireless way there is);
USB C - 3.1;
UFS 2.1 storage;
The ORIGINAL battery, straight from the LG is 40$,and you can CHANGE IT YOURSELF,in contrast of google and apple phones which batteries are at their last breath by now,and would add EXTRA EXTRA cost for replacing them NOW,if you buy them used...
The aftermarket battery is 10 - 20$ (and is a bit of a lottery,I admit that, one can hold the charge for the whole day,the other one is a dud, depends on the seller)!
Highly repairable BY USER alone (not that I ever needed to in 5 years I own this phone,but you can get it for 50$ on ebay used,and Frankenstein whatever);
The ORIGINAL LG software (android 7) is FLAWLESS! NEVER update it!
The ONLY beef I have with it is SECURITY,it's last security update was in november 2019!
NOW,tell me I should buy a froogle or a crapple phone, instead of this GEM!
I STILL HAVE MINE SINCE 2018! STILL WORKS. GOT IT OFF EBAY FOR 180$. GOT A 64 GIG DRIVE AND 128 GIG SD CARD IN IT. ONLY THING FALTY IS THAT THE BATTERIE STARTED TO DIE SO I GOT A NEW ONE ON AMAZON THAT LAST LONGER. AND IT GOT A TAD BIT SLOWER OVER THE YEARS. AND IT WOULD NOT ALLOW THE PHONE TO UPGRADE TO ANDROID 8.0. I THINK IT ONLY WENT UP TO 6.0. BUT BEST PHONE I EVER HAD THO
Thermal paste rom, lineageos and a new 3rd party battery should do wonders :)
Had that phone all the way till last year when I got my iPhone and I loved the v20
The second display was great it allowed you to play RUclips in the background without premium
the LG v20 can't scan barcode with the camera. bummer!
The Macbook Pro 2012 non retina of the smartphone world
old
showing its age speed wise
but still useable
and has every single feature imaginable
before people started paying companies a premium to take features away
a solid utilitarian do everything device that is easy and cheap to repair and can be rooted and run custom roms
that's before considering the little things, like easy acces volume, hi-fi DAC, the 2nd screen can be used for music apps
and given the sad state of mobile gaming and thay most of what i do doesnt need much power
it's usable
or at the very least
an ideal 2ndary device
One of the last US flagships that still had an IR blaster. That, along with removable battery, expandable memory, NFC, headphone jack with HiFi DAC and manual controls for photos _and_ video make this a standout. The only downside is IPS panel, no wireless charging and topping out at Pie in terms of modern features. That, and of course LG folding their smartphone tent. I'm going to pick one up to try out as a daily driver.
The secondary screen was and is still worth it.
Was my old primary phone. Starting using it again as a secondary phone because my s9 is cooked. It still looks new. Just a little laggy but it works. The build quality is top notch!!
the LG v20 can't scan barcode with the camera. bummer!
Is 2024 and I still have my LG V20 Running plus I have a 10,800 mah Extended Battery the phone will last me for 2 days in Battery🔋🔋🔋🔋🔋
Had an LG V20 for over 5 years. Actually just got a Pixel 6 today. Great phone, served me very well. I replaced the battery once about 2 years ago and really extended the life of it. Also, wasn't the Note of that year the Note 7? Idk if I'd call exploding outperforming.
the LG v20 can't scan barcode with the camera. bummer!
best phone i have ever owned, going to keep it to wheels fall off
Just bought two new OEM batteries for less than 20 bucks. Gonna keep using the v20 until I cant anymore. External battery charger so i always have a fully charged battery to swap in. Also 2tb sd card is godly.
Glad to see people still using older phones like the V20
I still use my LG G4. Killer phone and better camera and speaker than 99% of current flagship phones in 2022.
Yeah, if your phone still works and make calls and texts and still use it normally, what's the point of upgrading? I still got my V20
Sucks LG could never market their phones properly because they had some pretty solid phones..
I just stopped using mine. Easily the best value phone I have ever owned. Almost five solid years of service.
To think a 5 year old phone still had a gpu thats more powerful than most new phones today with the SD 820 and the 845 is still ranked 11 compared to all mobile GPU's...
I wonder how much the phone goes for nowadays I would love to buy it to have it in the collection
Could probably find one under a $100 bucks. I still have mines from years ago and it still looks great.
the last phone with removable battery
a last champion in a lost battle
You forgot to add how slow the cpu is, which was a downside even back then. Also the major screen burn in it can develop.
And what about installing a custom software on it ?
Never getting rid of it.
Watching on my LG V20 I got for $5.!
There's custom rom's for this phone.
I love my V20. I've had it for 6 years now. Its about time for a new one now. Its on its last legs lol.
My Note 9 Died on me so I switched back to my v20 H918, I also wasnt really a fan of LG's ui so I installed LOS (Lineage OS) 18.1 on it, and with no bloatware it really brings out the phones full potential, Although if you do try to install be aware you risk bricking your phone so this is not for the faint of heart.
what about the camera/ video recording on Lineage?
This makes the Honor V20 the third phone to have that concept.
mine is working but battery is a problem ! it dies down at 60% ! The software is A BIG PROBLEM ! Android ver is 8 !
SAME!!! If I'm lucky it lasts till 30-40
I was experiencing that too, until I replaced the factory battery with a new
The software is a big problem for me as well.
Now they will no longer make phones which is a shame.
and i love your videos 🔥
Have you tried installing stock Android 11 on it?
I have a question, how often do you need to change the battery? Thanks.
Depends on your tolerance. At 1 year battery holds 80% of what it couldve brand new. If you can still hold out, I got a battery thats 4 years old and lasts just 1 day while my new off-brand battery lasts a week.
I think rooting would make this worth it
The chip is faster than a lot too I believe
Is it worth getting one as a music player.
Absolutely its got 4 digital to analog converters. It will power full-size headphones.
@@dnews9519 not literally though. It only has one dac, ES9218, but the way it decodes digital signals is why the phone gets the Quad DAC title
I am watching this video by LG V20. My fone is v 9.0. It save batery than v 8.0
Where did you get the battery? I need one?

may i ask,how you remove the dual clock in the lockscreen?
Why isn't he doing a video on LG V10 my most favourite LG V series
I am thinking of ugrading to this phone from my galaxy Note 3 with Lineage OS. Note 3 is perfect phone but it's falling apart, I was thinking of upgrade to Note 4 or LGV20? Which one do people recomend?
You will lose the quad dac and possibly VoLTE, switching to LineageOS Pie and newer with the V20. I'd check those two things first before deciding. Carriers are phasing out 3G and some have already started requiring VoLTE for activation.
V20 all day everyday.

Interestingly i disagree with most of your points and you didn't even bother to highlight the strongest point of the point which is the audio, the reason why many people still stuck with this phone. So this video gets a thumbs down from me. Sorry.
Just ordered a new LG V20 phone DS version. Hope it arrives and is usable because I'm getting so tired of the Shift mq6 I bought.
What a madness that has happened on the Mobile marked these last many years.
Where did you buy it? Did you buy it new? Its hard to find
This is my daily driver since i got it
I think there are brand new fakes on the market.
100 to 150 brand new sealed in the box is questionable.
Poor signal indoors.

I wouldn't buy it.
anyone here had lg v20 bootloop issues now?
Using LG V20 in 2022 . with a 10000 mah battery

Is anyone actually daily driving it in 2022
Anyone still having LG V20 in 2024?
Apple copied LG and added dynamic island in iPhone 14 Pro.
Hi, how long does the battery last by using it only as a music player, and disabling wifi? Would you say this is better than buying a cheap DAP ? Thanks !
