    I really like Coleman duel fuel cookers and just picked up a Powerhouse dual fuel lantern for about $NZD 50. I understand that running ethanol/gas is not great as the ethanol dries the rubber seals and isn't good on the tank either. Every now and then, fill the tank with white gas, give it a good slosh around If you burn ordinary unleaded petrol then it's going to need some cleaning and l, like old carbs, if you let unleaded gas sit, it'll varnish up the jet and carbon up the generator, make the fuel control valve sticky- most of the problem with these is if you don't light them up often enough with clean fuel and make sure you have a nice clean pressurised burn. The Jets and generators in these things are tiny pin holes, but they are easy to service / take apart. Just use some carb cleaner to clean out the valve from the tank, the generator and jet at the end. It's nice to be able to use some plain unleaded petrol as it rarely unavailable and is cheap, but better to use white gas. Either or, it pays to just light them up more than once or twice a year.

    Well the fix seemed simple enough. I found one with a case, looks pristine, for $20. I found your videos on them, watched and decided it seemed worth it...
    So it's on the bench now and I expect I'll have it burning fine by tomorrow night.
    I mean, twenty bucks, I'll take that bet, lol.
    Thanks!

    From a collector and restorer- Your pickup tube is obstructed. Run a couple tanks of fresh CF through it with a capfull of Seafoam in each tank. If that doesn't do the trick then there is a small particle in there clogging it.

    I really like the idea of having your choice of fuels to use. Those leaks and things, are probably just maintenance issues since you said it worked fine after you took it apart and cleaned things up.
    great job man thanks for sharing

      +SurvivalTech Nord This lantern does provide one with options. Are Coleman lantern locally available in your part of the world?

    • @OH8STN
      @OH8STN 8 лет назад +2

      +Nomad-76 yeah they are available but not popular since the Swedish made Trangia and Primus are better suited for extreme climates. Coleman as a brand you find in the budget shops here.
      Looking forward to your next video.

    Good informative video. I also have a small collection of Coleman lanterns and stoves. I have several of the Dual Fuels and many others, too. I use a couple of 285’s regularly around my rural home. I use often use non ethonol unleaded in them. The E10 stuff is bad. I used It once in a 295 and had the same problem you had. Prior to 2009 Coleman advised against using ethanol lacedd Gasoline. I buy my non ethonol RUG at my local Husqavarna lawn equipment dealer. It is all I use in my mower snd other lawn equipment too. If you can’t find non-ethanol Gasoline stick with CF. Anyway I just just wanted to let you know it also happened to my 295 years ago with E10 gasoline.

      Good information, there is local gas station in my area that sells non-ethanol gasoline for use in small engines. I have thought about buying it instead of using that special two cycle mix with the additive for E10 gasoline for my weed whacker and chain saw. Now I have another reason and I will defiantly be fill my gas cans with non-ethanol gasoline next time I need to fill them. Thanks for watching.

      It is handy, I have used it on all my hunting and camping trip. The best part is if forget to bring enough Coleman fuel you can always use unleaded.

    So is the main issue the plastic f/a tube and schrader valve causing leaks? Thought about buying one but I have reservations now.

    have that same exact model and the 295-700T Powerhouse which needs troubleshooting. Have issues with Ghost flame

    I didn’t know the powerhouse had more likens I just bought one last week and I’m trying to fix it. I’ve already fixed the check valve and fill cap so I have pressure. It hisses but won’t start so idk if it’s supposed to sputter like liquid fuel and air or what but I’m working on the pick up tube but I see the Schroeder valve and it moves freely so idk if it’s not sucking up fuel or what.

    • @RavenwoodAcres
      @RavenwoodAcres  Год назад

      Sorry for the dely. Sometimes you can have a leak in the system below the valve. Double the seal (o-ring) on the top of the pickup tube.

    • @E85_STI
      @E85_STI Год назад

      @@RavenwoodAcres it’s ok no problem and I actually fixed it. I took it apart like you did and figured out the pick up tube had a piece fall off so it wasn’t sucking up fuel so I was able to get it out and I snapped it together and it now pulls fuel. I replaced the pump cup and got a gasket for the cap and now it works well. I took the check valve out and cleaned it as well as the font so this thing is almost brand new again.

    I am having problems with my 285a holding pressure, not leaking like you had, but loosing pressure. Do you have the same problem? On my older lamps, the pressure will hold until I release the pressure.

    • @RavenwoodAcres
      @RavenwoodAcres  7 лет назад

      There is only a few place it could be leaking from, have spraying soapy water around the fitting well the tank is under pressure? If there is a leak it should start bubbling in the area of the leak. One of the trickiest spot to check is the check valve in the bottom of the pump tube. However, it sounds like it might be a slow leak, how long does it hold pressure?

      Thanks for your assistance. Leaking from the Fuel Valve (Same as your video). I tightened the valve, and had problems with fuel flow (No fuel flow) to the Fuel Tube Assembly. Bought a new one, works great! Thank you!

    no matter what it says, only use gasoline for emergency's, it will work but it will eventually clog up.
