Coleman Lantern Carry Case

I just bought one, I always wanted one. It does bring back good memories
Thanks for the info. I would probably use this for outside camp lighting.
Definitely a great and fun lantern. Goes very nicely as camping lighting. Love the nice warm setting from this lantern too.
Remove the plastic ignition box after the lamp is burning properly. The heat of the lamp will burn the plastic within a couple of years if you let it stay while the lamp is in use.
Thanks for the info but mine already distorted. 😄
My already clogged up because I like to use it on very low setting. Then I replaced the generator but I somehow there is some kind of weird issue. It leaked and starter a "fire" and I believe it was why my ignition unit was damaged. I will get back to fix it once I have the time. Take care.
K, you can just slide rubber base up a little on the fount, then use the case. when you remove lantern from case to use, just slide rubber back down to fount bottom. i do this all the time with same case. you don't need to remove the rubber base at all. PS, the rubber base fits 220/228 lanterns too
At the moment the rubber is grabbing so tightly that it is a pain to slide it up. Anyway will do that as I believe it will eventually break-in? Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Have a great day and take care.
@@uwanitbad set lantern on the case base gently push down on fount. The case will act as a 'press' to push rubber up. U can add a little spray lube to rubber base to ease its dislodging.
@@crabtrap Works without having to apply any lube. Thanks a lot!
@@uwanitbad glad it worked, even Coleman reps dont know the northstar fits on their large lantern case! Its our secret i guess. Also the rubber base fits on 220 and 228 as well.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, I am shopping for one now!
Hi, this is uwanitbad. You are most welcome. I am just waiting for the change in weather to fire this thing up again.
Great video - honest review and I’ll be buying one for sure
I use a long neck oil funnel when fueling. And store the oil funnel in a plastic bag. I buy a large fuel container and fill up My Peak one fuel bottles. It's easier to pour and control the fuel when filling. I store My Northstar lanterners in the original boxes. The original box I keep My owner manual, original funnel, And extra mantels. I enjoy listening to the lantern. You have to remember that it's a old school lighting that is still being used today. And will be around for a very long time.
I used the original funnel provided by Coleman but it didn't work well. The refueling is very painful and slow using the funnel. So even using the long neck oil funnel will not prevent from overfilling right? I do use a 1 pint bottle to hold my fuel and refill using this method is easier but still will overflow. I like the noise when it is on the low setting. Very soothing actually. Thanks for sharing your view and take care.
@@uwanitbad I have three Coleman lanterns. Powerhouse duel fuel, two Northstar lanterners, Coleman stove 414, and a Coleman duel fuel 533. I don't over fill My lanterns or stoves. They need air in the fount to work properly. You can fill Your lantern a little over half and then let it burn for two hours. You can always add more fuel into Your lantern at anytime. I would rather do that than spill fuel and waste it. Another method is to poor a little bit of fuel and check with a flashlight. To See how much fuel You have in the fount. This method takes a little longer, but what is the rush. Safety first. Right ? The other PRO of having a Coleman lantern is that parts are always available and not very expressive. Once again, take Your time refueling the lantern. If You have to, pour the fuel and stop and check to see where You are at with the fuel. Leave room for the air in the fount,. Always take Your time when handling flammable liquids. Slow and safety first. I have grown up with the Coleman products as a kid camping and hunting. What year is Your lantern? It says the date and month on the bottom of the fount.
Currently I am using the flashlight>check>fill>check>full>stop 🤣pain the in bottom method. So cool that you mentioned the date being stamped at the base of the tank. I had mine the Stove 533 reads 08 12 and the Northstar lantern 12 17. What does that mean? Aug 2012? And Dec 2017? Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
@@uwanitbad December of 2017 is the birth date of the lantern. "When it was made". I used My Coleman 533 for many, many years in the United States Marine corps. I still use it today as well with the camp stove and lanterns. You can buy a tri pod to hold Your lantern also. I use My lanterns for holloween and when the power goes out. To start the generator. Of course. Living in northern Michigan. When have bad snow storms and never sure when the power will be restored. So the Coleman stove and lanterns play a big role in Our emergency situations.
Yes August of 08 and December 17. My 533 stove is August of 1997. Reading the box, One Coleman Northstar lantern has 1138 lumens and the other one has 800 lumens. They are in the garage in the original boxes. Can't remember what the dates are anymore. I would have to pull them out of the boxes to check. My not sure about the year of My power lantern. I would also have to pull it out of the box to check the month and year.I know it is definitely older than the Northstar lanterns.
I never had a problem with bugs flying into my lantern in the summer. It's like the heat of the lantern kept them at bay.
Thank you very much sir. A lot of interesting information. Greetings from Berlin Germany
👍 Good to hear that you found interesting information. Take care my friend 😀
I have the propane version of this. $5 w/ case at a yard sale find.
I got the dual fuel with 4 replacement mantles and regular white gas lantern for $15 at yard sale as well.....got lucky
I found the same propane version thrift store find with case for $15. Great lanterns.
never run this indoors, fill with red Coleman funnel with felt screen, keep funnel 1/2 full, when fuel stops going in, stop filling, tip lantern away from funnel to finish draining funnel, install cap then set lantern upright. The Coleman funnel is designed to work this way.
Thanks for the info.
Great review, and thank you.
I’m curious, will the rubber base fit on the bottom base of the lantern case if you turn it upside down, and the lantern will then fit into it (the round grove), and then the lantern will fit in the case?
There is no other way to store the lantern with the rubber base in the case. One must either remove it or just slide it up.
The hard case you have was never designed for the northstar. The case for the lantern is a soft case which is padded and will allow the lantern to be put in the case with the rubber base attached.
I didn’t know that and I did look around for it but the case I have is the only option. Will you be able to provide info where we be able to get a hold of it? Thanks.
good review, tnx for sharing 👍 incase you are unaware, if you do get a hole in a mantle shut it down asap as it will cause a hotspot in the glass and it will break.
Nice! I didn't know that and that can help us all save $30+. Thank you Kevin.
There great for walking tracks at night, good light.
Great review, thank you so much for sharing!
Good review and very nice lantern. A lantern to last a very long time. Thank you for sharing 👍💯✌️
I do hope it will outlast me at the very least. Sure I would love to hand it down to my son. Thank you for the lovely comment 😀
I do not recommend using fuel-burning lanterns inside a tent. Firstly, its a huge fire risk. There's too much flammable material around that can light up if the lantern is too close... the tent itself, the floor sheet, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, hiking wear, books, rucksacks, etc. Moden camping gear is made of lightweight but highly flammable materials. Losing your shelter and/or getting burned in the middle of the wilderness is a very bad thing. Also, tents are usually not well ventilated & carbon monoxide or oxygen depletion can happen... which is fatal.
Great review!
nice video nice guy nice lantern ! please more !
So the lantern does fit in that case if the rubber is not attached? I already have the case and just ordered the lantern. Hoping it works!
Yes it does work. Not a problem at all.
Measure how much goes in , then use measuring cup. OK?
For me I rather use a measuring scale and make a record the total weight when it is full. It is a lot simpler for me that way. But I usually just fill this lantern outside and thus a little spillage is not biggy.
thank you
sound is nice and reconforting when you are alone in the night 😃
Outside is place for lantern.
👍👍
Does this use premium grade paraffin
I don't think so. Paraffin won't burnt as clean as gasoline. I wouldn't do it.
@@pkay1111 so I guess is petrol then or spend loads on Colman's own fuel
@@sayittrue9570 Seemed like the price of the Crown white gas camp fuel came back down. I just checked on Walmart it was 7.70 or so per gallon. Not too bad.
@@uwanitbad I'm in the UK .we don't have a Walmart here. Colman's fuel works out at just over £10 a litre
@@sayittrue9570 That's steep. Use gasoline then. Make sure not to simmer for too long. Once you see yellow flame turn it be back high.
Before you buy any lantern you should do your research, because by the sound of things you would have been better buying the propane version!
Nope. I still like the gasoline version better and not that I have the propane version though. I like gasoline smell by the way haha.
@@uwanitbad most of the duel fuel works with kerosene as well with an additional heater cup .
