This month, my patrons and I had "bridges" as the theme for our art challenge. I recreated one of the most memorable bridge sequences ever written, Gandalf and the Balrog on the Bridge of Khazad-Dum.
I know there's already a lot of mixed opinions on The Rings of Power, but hopefully it gives us some new cool Balrog sequences.

I need more LOTR dioramas
Infinity!!!!
*we
Probably right
All of them! 😂
We absolutely need more dioramas from LOTR and the new LOTR SHOW
Edit: Run fools
YOU SHALL NOT stop making these awesome dioramas!
I had a school teacher who must have been a wizard? She came up to me and said, “You shall not pass!”, and low and behold, I didn’t.
It's been a while since my last karate class, but I'm gonna go ahead and say that your belt ranking system sounds pretty accurate.
Hey bro that last vid was epic. Can you do Kratos and Atreus from God Of War please?
I always forget that everyone I watch on RUclips has a life and is a real person
You should totally make more LotR and Hobbit dioramas in the future! This one turned out fantastic!
Nah, give is Game of Thrones! We need representation!!
Excellent! I love the bold way that you wired up Gandalf, and you are right, it blended in perfectly after painting. I also really like watching you cut a channel through the Balrog! Those final glamour shots look EPIC! Amazing work, C!
Thanks, T-Nu! Appreciate you!
@@Boylei maybe thin fishing line would be good for tying the led to the wire, it was amazing as usual.
The light illuminating from Gandalf's staff is beautiful
This is one of the most iconic scenes in the whole trilogy, and you did it justice. Well done, sir!
Personally the moment the fellowship enters moria to the moment it leaves in my opinion is a true masterpiece in cinema
This turned out awesome, man. and don't worry, you just needed time to level up your painting, and now you are super awesome at it. Don't take people to heart, man. It's too easy for people to point fingers. I think you always do an awesome job. I hope the joy of creating things pushes you forward, even if there is something you aren't great at, don't be ashamed. Movement is progress :) Cheers, Boylei!
Awesome work. The eyes of the Balrog really make it come alive.
My man, the result was jaw-dropping. Thoroughly entertaining, with such snappy (and witty) editing! You made me laugh more than a few times in this one. :)
P.S. I would never have considered adding final touches / variation over the hose filament with an airbrush.
Remarkable job.
" Go back to the Shadow. You shall not pass!!!" On another note, Id love to see a diorama of the tomb they all get ambushed by goblins in before the Balrog fight
@@Noelsterrr The Balrog reached the bridge. Gandalf stood in the middle of the span, leaning on the staff in his left hand, but in his other hand Glamdring gleamed, cold and white. His enemy halted again, facing him, and the shadow about it reached out like two vast wings. It raised the whip, and the thongs whined and cracked. Fire came from its nostrils. But Gandalf stood firm.
'You cannot pass,' he said. The orcs stood still, and a dead silence fell. 'I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. You cannot pass. The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udûn. Go back to the Shadow! You cannot pass.'
The Balrog made no answer. The fire in it seemed to die, but the darkness grew. It stepped forward slowly onto the bridge, and suddenly it drew itself up to a great height, and its wings were spread from wall to wall; but still Gandalf could be seen, glimmering in the gloom; he seemed small, and altogether alone: grey and bent, like a wizened tree before the onset of a storm.
From out of the shadow a red sword leaped flaming.
Glamdring glittered white in answer.
There was a ringing clash and a stab of white fire. The Balrog fell back and its sword flew up in molten fragments. The wizard swayed on the bridge, stepped back a pace, and then again stood still.
'You cannot pass!' he said.
With a bound the Balrog leaped full upon the bridge. Its whip whirled and hissed.
'He cannot stand alone!' cried Aragorn suddenly and ran back along the bridge. 'Elendil!' he shouted. 'I am with you, Gandalf!'
'Gondor!' cried Boromir and leaped after him.
At that moment Gandalf lifted his staff, and crying aloud he smote the bridge before him. The staff broke asunder and fell from his hand. A blinding sheet of white flame sprang up. The bridge cracked. Right at the Balrog's feet it broke, and the stone upon which it stood crashed into the gulf, while the rest remained, poised, quivering like a tongue of rock thrust out into emptiness.
With a terrible cry the Balrog fell forward, and its shadow plunged down and vanished. But even as it fell it swung its whip, and the thongs lashed and curled about the wizard's knees, dragging him to the brink. He staggered and fell, grasped vainly at the stone, and slid into the abyss. 'Fly, you fools!' he cried, and was gone.
@@ianhines2302 "stones sink because they look down, and ships float because they look up to the stars" basically the exact same spine tingling epic timeless vibes 😜
@@ianhines2302 That's it - I'm reading it again. I just realized that I haven't read the Hobbit and LOTR trilogy in years - something I've done many times since the first time in the late 70s. This excerpt is more than enough to remind me why I keep going back - Thank you!
"Drums, drums in the deep. They are coming."
The way you made the wires vanish is the real magic on this one! Beautifully done once again 👍
Got chills at the end when you light it up and the music start... what a piece of art, thank you for reminding me those sensation about this epic moment
Looks fantastic on and off of course, but the lighting that you build into so many of your projects is just so good every time! The contrast between the staff and the flames looks soooo nice~
Your models are fantastic. But I’d like to also pay compliments to your editing. It’s very lovely to watch.
I could hear him yelling You shall not pass during the glamor shots. Impressive. Thank you.
This is amazing! It's too bad people are that shitty, you felt the need to take down the older video. I really love the then and now comparisons and how far artists come on their journey. Early art is never invalid, it's all just steps to learning.
agreed good sir.
Absolutely!
We all have a journey to take and he is just sharing his. Everyone of these videos are awesome and over time have been seeing the progression! Be proud of where you started and how far you come! You are an excellent artist, one that I inspire to be!
I agree! I wanted to go look at the old video but I guarantee I would not have made fun of you! I'm very impressed with your current abilities and, as an artist myself, I know that it takes effort to do the thing in the first place and even more effort to improve. This balrog is beautifully painted!
I agree. Making mistakes is just the cost of tuition. Every art journey starts somewhere and you don’t start out fully formed and perfect. Some people are just the worst.
if he doesn't want to share his journey then he doesn't have to
i’m always amazed at how realistic and cool you make fire look. i’ve never seen someone pull something like that off before, let alone at a small scale. good work!
Got chills. Absolutely stunning piece!!
What you produced here is a joy to behold and a true inspiration! Bravo!
This man just gets it, following current trends, user generated content (in form of suggestions) and short-ish videos. Since this craft seldom has louder sounds (like in a metal workshop for restoring antiques) the voice-over commentary was also a good choice. This is how it's done people. Glad you are already so succesful judging by your sub count. You deserve it. Keep it coming!
It's so refreshing, no obnoxious music or crazy yelling/reveals/etc
Voice over is the best for these types of content. It explains how things are done, since there's no real ASMR type sounds in this hobby except maybe the delightful clacking of foam, but that's only a small part of the build it's not worth the whole thing. The stock youtube safe music is just repetitive and, frankly, annoying. It's the same shit you hear on 50 other youtube channels and gives you nothing as to the thought process of a piece. Shame some of the diorama builders use it too much. I can only watch one or wo videos at a time cause of that shitty music on repeat for 20+ minutes, where as I could watch this kind of thing for hours.
@@krampusklaws2238 seriously though, if I hear any of the stock RUclips or tick tock background music one more time I think I'm going to go nuts. Boylei has nailed the format, PLUS he's genuinely talented. It's a great combo!
@@the_junk_shop Two channels I wish would change from stock shitty music is Minibricks and Thalssophobia. Their dioramas are insanely good. They are very talented, but I just can't with that music.
Wow,,, was just totally enthralled, at the build, and then came the "Glamour Shots", and as they were almost completely done, i realized, was sitting here with my mouth hanging open. That was one of the most amazing, and beautiful craft builds I've seen, in a long time.
(And i watch a lot of this craft stuff)
Looks incredible some of your best work yet! the audio editing throughout was amazing with the songs you chose and the led work was magnificent. Great job!
"I've thought of everything" is an understatement for this talented sculptor!
Love the Moomin bridge! Whoever created that needs praise aswell
The entire dungeon scene is my absolute favourite movie moment ever! Followed by the stand off at the end of the good, the bad and the ugly.
Love this man. You should also try some pirate themed dioramas. I think it would be fun !
I second the pirate diorama request!
I third the request
Fourthing it
That’s a fifth errr second from me…
The Western-themed pirates. Pirates on a steamboat attacking a monster-carrying wagon.
this is some very clever use of coloring and im glad we get to see all the details up close of both characters
I love it! I would like to see more LOTR dioramas
As simple as this build may seem... it speaks volumes.
This part of the movie made me cry. A very powerful build indeed. Love the patreon builds as well. Well done PATREON! 💐🏆🎯
EPIC! Has to be one of the best dioramas depicting this incredible and iconic scene.
The 'You shall not pass' diorama!! Super-awesome!
Awesome job on this iconic scene. It looks amazing.
Wow. That’s just… wow. I’m not the biggest LOTR fan, but this is one of the few Boylei videos I’ve not seen. Gorgeous build.
I’ve always been impressed with your dioramas, but I think this is your most visually impressive. It’s such a powerful and emotional scene and you’ve done it such justice, not only were the electronics impressive, but the paint job and composition. Love your work
All your videos are truly wonderful, but these LoTR dioramas hit me the most. Beautiful.
Amazing.
Since you are into bridges, the scene where Aragorn throws Gimli onto the passage of Helms Deep will be a fun one 🤣
Not sure that anyone would dare make fun of this paint job. Its absolutely spectacular. I usually watch your channel for Star Wars content but this LOTR display is awesome. Please do a lighted diorama using Lego
Bro this is so sick! This has to be the most badass diorama of this scene
Both the paint job and commentary was excellent.
Yeah, you wouldn't be able to pinpoint such an iconic scene within Rings of Power. Loved this, keep doing this amazing work!
Oh wow. Painting in the glow from the fire really takes this to a whole other level.
I just fully watched the LOTR trilogy for the first time, love to see it!
that was something else to witness. that balrog and the flames are just amazing. bravo and well done
Absolutely awesome! Love it :D
I absolutely love your sense of humor. I literally laugh out loud when I watch these videos.
Great project! Can you share a link for these filaments you use? I'd love to try them but dont see them in your amazon list. Thank you!
bump
Was anyone able to remake this I need some pointers cuz I need this in my house lol
¡Gracias!
Are we going to ever get a whole tour of your western world?
We did.
@@User-swj- real
@@wigligigly3375 Yes
If we do, might I casually suggest you get a boroscope for your phone? A first-person tour could be pretty cool!
@@the_junk_shop we got one.
Those are some nice bridges. Jeff would be proud
Really love your build... I really want to see your previous attempt now though! It's nice to watch how people develope their skills over time from older videos to now. Was it really that terrible that you had to take the video down? Anyone here seen it?
THANK YOU FOR PUTTING LINKS TO YOUR TOOLS!!!!
Wow. I have been into LOTR and D&D for forty+ years....never thought that when Gandalf beat the Balrog he leveled up. Me learn new stuff today. Great video.
Next to ageing a model stuff that lights up is a real game changer, well done.
Amazing job. With the lights off, it really came to life. I can almost hear the voices and sounds from the movie. I would buy this from you.
What an unbelievable piece... I'm in awe... 🤯...
You know it's gonna be a good one when the thumbnail is enough to give you goosebumps. I can't get over the whip and the fire bits!! the flames on his back look incredible.
...now i need to go rewatch the trilogy.
Love this! I especially like that you can see the light from his mouth and eyes. Very effective and looks great. I love your wild west ones but as I'm a big LotR fan I was super happy to see you make this.
one of my favourite moments in all of the LOTR movies, and recreated incredibly... amazing job
The theme song notes as the popping sounds from taking the rocks out... I love it.
As a fellow(ship) LOTR enthusiast I thoroughly enjoyed this build and the nods and puns. Even though I'm late to the party with this series I'm loving it! :D Keep doin' what you do!
That's awesome mate. LoR is one of my favorite trilogies and this scene was so epic 👍👍
I’m a huge Star Wars fan but this is by far my favorite of your works. Amazing.
As per usual, another breath taking diorama. The lights really make it pop. Looking forward to your next video!
Epic build. Epic naming style at start 😍
Oh you are talking about the malfog, and Gandorf. My favorite line is " You can't go through this way" such a good TV show
absolutely stunning... the eyes and back flame gave me goose-bumps. This is one of my favorite scenes in the books and movies and you did an awesome job! i love all your work but this is hands down one of my favorites.
Watching you customize and improve the models and create a setting was fascinating! The finished piece is beautiful!
You know what’s awesome? We’ve never seen your face. Many lesser talents (in other genres) are vainglorious. Your understatement is rare these days. And coveted. Bravo and thank you my friend.
Totally wicked awesome! What a work of art.
I think this is one of my favorites by far. Just reminds me of my childhood and all the DnD memes about Gandolf getting all the loot for himself
Every time i sit to watch a video my mind is blown by the end result. Always amazing art.
Amazing. I love Morgoth and the blue staff light!
This was amazing! Makes me want to see you tackle Smaug confronting Bilbo in his lair.
Hello! Congratulations for the channel! Regarding your tracing technique on the foam at the beginning of your video, I'd like to share one I've used in the past. So, for starters, all you need is plain piece of paper with your soon to be traced line, and then you place that securely on top of the material you work with (wood, foam etc.). Then all you have to do is get something pointy and poke holes following the line on the paper through to your material. More points translate to more detail. Upside is you can use the template multiple times. You can always use variations as one sees fit. Cheers!
Your creations are amazing and I really enjoy your voice and cadence and how you deliver your voiceover.
I watched a fair number of your videos, and enjoyed them all... but this one... man I want this one. Amazing.
the cocktail straw on the whip is genius! this is so sick
I teared up at the end. Such an epic moment so excellently captured.
Love the light effects
Epis scene in the movie and EPIC diorama! Nicely done!
Love it! The lighting is a fantastic touch
Gorgeous. My fav LOTR moment.
REALLY WONDERFUL PIECE OF ART !!
YOU ARE A MASTER CRAFTSMAN !!
CONGRATS.
GREETINGS FROM BRASIL.
Blackfish is so heart-wrenching. Almost everybody should watch it. 1:01
Amazing. The lighting really does elevate it to the next level. Great paint job as well.
Never regret mistakes, learn from them and excell at what works for you.
Looks like something my brother would make. Great job.
I think your paint & commentary are great
Stunning job! The lighting is specially impressive, BRAVO!
Stunning ! The flame effect of his back is amazing
This is absolutely amazing! My favorite scene in all the LOTR movies!
THAT IS THE MOST AWESOME DIORAMA i have seen made! Also one of my favourite scenes in the film "YOU SHALL NOT PASS"
The cotton fluff was an interesting touch for fiery-ness. Go, Gandalf!!
This is awesome. Would love to see a Minas Morgul when the green lightning erupts out and the Nazgul take flight
This might be the coolest thing I’ve ever seen
Wow, great work, totally captures the moment from the movie!!! 👍🏻
Holy enduring star!! That is so awesome
Stunning lighting effect, and overall fantastic 👍
absolutely stunning
Gorgeous. Outstanding work.
