Tom’s ability to compose and play some very complex clean pieces for guitar doesn’t get as much notice or hype but because few realize how to play those more in your face distorted guitar manipulation, he has to have such a strong clean to not seem like he plays “hot cross buns” level cleans until he can do the bells and whistles cool stuff, then goes back to Twinkle Twinkle- instead the cleans feel robust enough to hold its own and then lead into and pick back up right after the jam pieces

Where did you find that? I have read several articles realting to this and Tom Morello says that it was written by him, Oli Sykes, and Jordan Fish. Tom Morello was in LA, Oli was in Brazil, and Jordan was in England at the time of the writing.

i think the fact you hear this as a BMTH track says more about the influence Morello has had on BMTH than anything else. As an old metalhead and a fan of RATM for like 30 years, I can tell you the instant that first riff started I knew it was Tom. And that solo in the riffdown proved it.
Since Sempiternal/TTS I think nu metal bands have been a big influence for BMTH's rock/metal side. Mainly Linkin Park, Deftones, Slipknot and like you mentioned Rage Against The Machine
Hell yeah, for me this is more of a Tom Morello track with BMTH lyrics.
Fun Fact: At 2:10, the line "Fifty shades of f***** up" was also in BMTH's song Join The Club.

Hot take: Tom morello laid the base foundation for the modern metal noises with his semi abusive usage of his whammy and the stutter with the phaser, if I remember.
Him and AFI molded hardcore and metalcore
Audioslave and soundgarden as well. A lot of metal bands draw inspiration from the grunge scene. Tom Morello is no exception

Bands like iron maiden and Metallica have more influence than what you’ve listed, to the point that metallicas breakdown in one is partly the origins of modern breakdowns. The most well known bands in the metalcore genre have covers or started as cover bands of old metal bands.
