This Sonata is one of the most beautiful in his overall works of art. It is heard as a sad one. Moments like 0:21, 0:51 and on, tearing my heart. I even don't know why, but it has this effect on me. Your performance is most beautiful accordingly. Thanks for uploading.
@@theclavierist My pleasure. I built myself a pair of virginals some time back, but always wondered about doing a clavichord. The newer ones sound much more interesting .
@@violjohn the best clavichords I've heard are new ones based on old ones, even though I have to say that a good Dolmetsch can be better than many 'historically based' ones. I also understand that it is not easy to build a clavichord well, but that is a field in which I am ignorant.
Thank you! I love this sonata. I have done a video playing it on the harpsichord as well, gives it a different feel... I need to go back to the clavichord after such a long time and see how it comes out. I think tempo would be similar anyway!
Hi Philippe! No, it is unfretted. I made a video about it a while ago ruclips.net/video/swFPdQLq0IM/видео.html and also a video comparing two clavichords, both unfretted ruclips.net/video/wfb8I252Br0/видео.html
Have you ever played, listened to or recorded a clavichord? Probably not, so try it and then tell me the solution you find :-) I invite you to try with a phone as well. Maybe do a video on youtube teaching everyone how to record a clavichord, I would watch it and put a like. FYI, the clavichord is by nature quieter than any other keyboard instrument. Also, listen to this with headphones with a volume of 70% on your device, it's pretty close to reality. Make sure there is absolute silence around you, it's an essential condition to appreciate good music. This is not music for a party, pub, background or a stage.
Most baroque and classical keyboard performances on RUclips are presented at a lower volume than most pop music. If you don’t believe me listen to Arthur Rubenstein. Professionally recorded and professionally produced, and very soft. And, technically, it isn’t the volume at which you record at all, it’s how you normalize the track during production. I typically normalize my own piano videos to -2, which is rather soft, because that’s what some of the best classical pianists do (or, rather, what their recording engineers do). It would be a simple matter to take the same recording, press a button, and produce a video that would blow your ears off, louder than any rock band, but I don’t, because I’m playing in a classical style. And besides that, the clavierist is right when he says that the clavichord is a soft instrument. It’s not like a grand piano. It won’t fill a concert hall. Typical the listeners gather around and all sit just a few feet from the instrument.
My favorite rendition of this sonata.
Thank you! Too kind.
@@theclavierist you own this sonata

Lovely, really a fine rendition. Your clavichord also has a great tone and is a pleasure to listen to.
Thank you! The clavichord will soon come back to the channel :-) once I have fixed a couple of things on it!

Delicate; tentative; a delicious subject for your instrument and musicality ! Thank you!
Thank you for the very kind words William!
Wow that score is beautiful.. thanks for showing. Gorgeous playing. Man I love Scarlatti!
Thank you for your kind words :-) There is a mystical beauty in old manuscripts!
One of my favourite Scarlatti sonatas. And I love your tempo for this. Nicely done!

Awesome!! Congrats!
😍😍😍
Very beautiful. Is it a fretted clavichord?

Is this Clavichord 4.5 octave or more bigger? Thank you
Hello! It is 4 octaves and two notes, C to d'''. So not very big, but also not very small :-)
Ol’ Scar sure could write a pretty tune!
Indeed :--)
seriously needs to learn to record with proper audio volume. cmon dude. even with just a phone you could probably do better
