You get a popular Breed and a Breed you love I like my Border collies, but they are a hard Breed to keep. I'm off work needing an operation and caring for a very sick perent ,so I can be full time with my latest puppy and my wife was off work with our last dog .you get a very strong bond with the animal, my puppy has given the old girl more life and upped her fitness probably given her another year or two and they miss each other when split up for a few hours
I had a foster dog in my home last year. She whelped 10 beautiful puppies. It was trial by fire. It went well. I have 2 labs, both are fixed. I'm considering starting with one female lab.
It sounds like you got some good experience weather you wanted it or not! I’m glad it went well. Since you already know labs and are considering one female for breeding to start, I believe you’re on a good track. 👍 -Alan
We just had our first litter of Boston terrier puppies, litter of 7, and they are 8 weeks on Tues December 17. We've sold all but one! Extremely rewarding and a TON of work but we plan on doing it again in about a year
I've always wanted to breed Labs. I've always loved Labs, I've had them for 30yrs. When my last one passed, my wife talked me into a Great Dane. I can't believe how great they are. So mellow. So more than likely, that will be the route I'm taking.
This is very helpful! We are considering having a litter of Aussie pups with my dog , we just lost our old girl and want to keep a puppy as our next companion when we are ready. Trying to learn all I can so we can make the best decision, I’ve always wanted to have a dog have puppies. I’ve fostered kittens and always had animals, I’m hoping we are up for the challenge! 😊
I had puppies accidentally with my female dog, i had to give them away because they were mixed. But then i really loved how mu dog is with puppies and how happy she was, and also i loved them so much and loved caring for them. I own pekingese and i "fostered" another male pekingese soon after that incident. Then i decided that i could start breeding since i have a pair. Now i have little puppies and i keep them in order by going to vet, asking advice, watching over them etc. It is a bit more complicated but i would do anything for them and i take care of them, love that. This video same as some other video of yours helped me a bit with this and i will use this as other future puppies so thank you!
I just wanted to say thank you for putting out some very informative videos! I am getting ready to start my journey of breeding Miniature Dachshunds! I am picking up my female this weekend and have worked out an arrangement with my breeder to get a stud dog that isn't related! Now to wait until they are of age!
Just had my first litter. 4 beautiful toy poodles. Planning on keeping the girl and maybe 1 boy. Not sure if il make much with the boy tho. But he's so gorgeous
Hello! My husband and I are in Northern New Brunswick Canada 🇨🇦! We really do love dogs and we are looking to open a kennel, a small kennel. I’m at home all day with my kids so having the love for dogs and bringing in extra income while spending time with our dogs would be Amazing!
Really solid advice. I realized I was doing my own mental inventory for each question or piece of advice you mentioned. Loved your words regarding making mistakes is part of success. First time viewer here....but I’m going to watch the rest of them. This video gave me a good idea of your practical and realistic approach to breeding....which ends up being the kindest thing for the animals. Boom...you made a fan. Excellent work.
I agree with everything you said except for choose one am I better I think it's better to choose one of dogs like like I said in the range of cousin Mississippi people love but they looking for different type of cattle dogs and if you have a couple options are more likely to choose you than somebody that they know is only has one option😊 but that's what works with me
I had a boy. He was an old man and had to suddenly put him down over a year ago. I have a female now and all I want is for her to have pups. One so I can have one or two. It would be a good test for future long term breeding as well. I love shepherds and huskies. I love all dogs but those have always had a special place in my heart since I was little
Thanks for the video, CUT AND CLEAR, I have 2 full breed Pembroke welsh corgi’s, male & female and I’ve been thinking about doing this, I live in the Los Angeles area, I needed to hear this video, thank you
Really enjoyed the video I love dogs and have always wanted a lot of them. Always thought about breeding but I’m just now putting my foot down. I’m starting with one female a little nervous.
I really want to breed German shorthair pointers, Rhodesian Ridgebacks and border collies or Australian shepherds… sigh but now I may have to stick with one! Lol 😂 this is hardddd might just do the first 2
I do have one question that maybe you can make a video of. When you breed the dogs how do you keep breading. Do you keep buying Pure breeds from someone or how does that work
Love these tips, only thing is if your in Canada like me, we use The Canadian Kennel Club, as well some breeds have such a big following they have separate large clubs Such as the Canadian Border Collie Club.
Serious question for one of your tips. Do I love dogs? I love my dogs. I can't say I love all dogs. Love is a very personal thing for me. I love all of my dogs. I love the dog breed that I plan to breed because of the dogs I have had that I love and have loved. How could I possibly love all dogs? It doesn't even make sense. Love is love. It is very personal. Just as you love a person. Do I love all people? Probably not. Do I love all dogs? Probably not.

Thank you for this info I really appreciate this video I purchased my first female English bulldog puppy so thank you for the Directions on which way to go..
I have 2 AKC registered purebreed Rottweilers. My girl is 2 years old and is going through her second false pregnancy. She will be 3 in June. So we are planning to breed her after her next heat cycle. Also, my male will be around 18 months by then so we plan to breed them together. I love these dogs more than anyone and they are basically my kids. And I have all the time and space being a stay at home wife and living on 15 acres. My only question is planning the best day to breed them.. Not sure why it's still a little confusing to me. I don't plan on breeding her more than once but I guess we will see how things go.
I would recommend you consult with your Vet about your goals. Progesterone testing when she gets close will tell you the right day for them to breed/ start breeding. 👍
im looking at starting a dog breeding business when i move and planing on small dogs for those who live in apartments leaning toward alaskan klee kai we are moving to maine in a house with 2 acre's of space

I am so glad I found your channel! I have had labs for over 20 years. My present lab is 11 yrs old, my first lab Livvy was 11 yrs when she passed away. I could not believe that you got a dog named Livvie! And you are a Dave Ramsey guy! Where are you located? I am in Missouri. I love your videos and want to breed labs. It has been a lifelong dream to do that. Do you have an email address? I am looking for a breeder to buy from, I know you got your Livvie from a breeder in Jefferson City Missouri which is not far from me. But you are also a breeder I would consider after watching your great videos! thanks
Hello Valerie! Thanks for watching! We are located in Bolivar, MO. You can email us at mustlovelabs37@gmail.com We got Livvie from a breeder in Bowling Green, MO who met us half way in Jefferson City where we shot video. 👍
Hi Allen! can you do a video explaining how the tax write off works when starting a hobby breeding business or being a breeder on the side while my mate is the soul provider?? I guess what I'm trying to say is there a tax write off for the dogs?
All businesses are allowed to claim legitimate expenses on their tax filings. Dog breeding is no different. The rules and specifics for this vary widely from state to state. It is best to ask a local CPA where you are these questions, and then follow their advise. Great question!
Specializing in one breed is definitely more beneficial. As you should know absolutely any & everything you can about the specific breed you would be breeding. You have to know your breed in and out to be producing quality pups.
I’m planning to breed soon your tips are helping me big time. Thanks for sharing. Will breed poodles here in the Philippines soon. I already have female red toy poodle she’s emily and she’s turing 4 months on may 9th. Will continue to watch your videos for future reference.
Great question! Check the Department Of Agriculture’s website in your state. That’s where the rules are. The rules are different in every state. Who needs a license and why…etc. 👍
So I'm thinking about starting a dog kennel, I have a lot of expirience with dogs, I choose breed to be French Bulldogs, which im aware is one of the hardest breeds to breed, but I'm sure i can handle them. I just have question, I have a budget and time for a lot of dogs, do you reccommend starting with more than one dogs, I was thinking 3 female dogs and maybe 1 or more male ones. I have the money for space and everything to begin with. But I still want to ask someone with experience just to make sure.
AKC is not a quality control organization and they freely admit that. We have had 3 bad experiences with AKC registered GSDs, and AKC couldn’t care less. I prefer to buy dogs whose parents are registered with OFA. But that’s me and my GSDs.
Love your video! All of your questions were yes! With that said, is 2 female french bulldog too much or should I go with ONE but higher quality french bulldog to start out?
Great question! I choose quality over quantity in most things, including breeding stock for sure! You mention french bulldogs...James Chopping is in my opinion a “Master Breeder” of frenchies. He has an entire RUclips channel dedicated to them. ruclips.net/user/LoveMyPups Hope that helps! -Alan
As long as there is a market for the pups you should be fine. People breed poodle mixes and others with huge success. I’d do some homework and make sure there is demand for the pups first. Great question!
0:46 its a hard topic, because if you rly love animals you know the shelters are already full with pets that looking for a home and might be put down. As a cat lover i dont mind getting a "second hand" adult not purebreed cat, they are all awesome to me. But as a first time dog owner and lover of one specific breed i know the dogs have to come from somewhere. I didnt find a dog of that breed in the shelters when i looked for one 8 years ago,at least none without behaviour issues. So i walked to a breeder and got a brand new puppy dog...but my adult cats i have from shelters. Its rly a difficult topic for me.
It’s a choice all pet owners have to make. Do they want to adopt a shelter dog or do they want to get a purebred puppy with the Pedegree from a breeder. There are good reasons and good arguments for both. I really don’t judge people either way. It really comes down to what you are looking for. I’m just glad to live in a society where we have a choice.👍😀 -Alan
Dear Sir: you do not mention anything about professional insurance, to protect your breeding business, if a customer or client feels they got injured in some way, in their purchase. Do you recommend getting insured, so you do not suffer a great loss, if you are sued by an unhappy client?
Great question! The laws are different from place to place. For this reason and others I don’t offer legal advice. What I suggest you do is have that conversation with a local attorney in your area and follow their advice.
Question for my friend: she lives in Vancouver Canada and she bought 4 female poodles 🐩 she was planning to use a stud but unexpectedly bought a male poodle from a relative .. the problem is .. bylaws only allow 3 dogs max second problem .. what if your renting ?? How do you breed if in a rental .. very difficult to find a landlord who will be ok with one dog never mind 4 and then it’s better to tell them breeding right
What do you recommend starting out with? I am starting with one female but I’m torn on using a stud service for her first litter or buying my own stud straight away. If I do buy my own for the first litter I would have to buy another one down the road if I wanted to hold a puppy back for my program to use later on because my stud would be the father to that first litter. What are your thoughts on that please?
Hi Tina! I cover these issues and more in my series on becoming a breeder. You just watched the first video on the playlist. The specific answers to your questions are on video 3 about starting a breeding program. Here is a link to it. ruclips.net/video/7L1GkUswxUk/видео.html I do suggest you watch the series.
Hello sir I just saw your channel and I loved this video... Thanks for uploading this video because I've had this in mind for a while now I've owned 1 dog since I was a kid(I'm sixteen now) and I do love dogs... My old dog is no more... I wanted to ask should I buy a male or female first to start dog breeding? Most people say I should buy a female and produce my own male and use the male as a stud....
Hello! I would start with a female. It really is mostly about the females. The stud should not be related to her...meaning no inbreeding to her brother or line breeding her to her son, father, grandfather or grandson. Genetic diversity minimizes the chance of unwanted recessive traits surfacing. Hope that helps! -Alan
Great question! The rules for who needs a license and who does not, change from state to state. You need to check with the FDA in your state for the answer. -Alan
Thanks for these tips and ideas. I’ve been thinking about this and researching it for a little while. I wandered about registering and genetic testing? There’s so much info that I get confused. I hear breeders say that they do this to ensure the Heath of the puppies. Is it required and who do you register, the mom? The puppies? Can you explain how that would work? Seems there are so many tests and the cost can outweigh what you actually make in the end. Curious to know more! Thanks again! ☺️
Excellent questions! I’ll be doing a video on this very topic soon. There’s lots to talk about with this but to give you a brief answer to your inquiry’s... none of the “tests” are required by law. Neither are the “registrations”. These are industry standards set forth by the breeders and the various clubs they belong to like the AKC for example. The clubs primary purpose is to track lineage (pedigree) through voluntary registration with them. If your registered female has a litter with a registered male, you can then register the pups. The genetic tests help identify many known health issues common to the breed. Eye, respiratory...things that can be identified in DNA. In this way you can minimize the risk of passing on potentially bad traits to puppies by removing that dog from your breeding program. All of these things are designed to maintain breed standards and good health for pets. You test the parent dogs once in the beginning. Embark and others do it for around $200 per dog. embarkvet.com/breeders/ So it’s an up front investment that pays you back your very first litter. Hope that helps! -Alan
Thanks man I'm 14 and thinking of becoming a dog breeder ofc with some help from my father (I don't plan on actually starting to breed till I'm like 17) for now I'm just trying to find a breed that I would love spending time with and rn I rlly like Cane Corso any advice or suggestions?
I’m excited for you! Planning ahead for your future with the help of your father is wise! I suggest that once you and your father pick a breed to work with, you spend some time learning all you can about that breed. 👍
I want to breed for me, because we love dogs. But I always cross to a breeder selling dogs for $4-6 but for pet only. Not giving me the right to breed. We have our own professional grooming dryer and everything. We fly and go road trips with our dog and take her everywhere.
I do love dogs....My question is can this be profitable??? don't tell me if I am doing it for profit then I shouldn't be doing it, it is a lot of work and responsibility...
Great question! It can most definitely be profitable! Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. There is nothing wrong with being paid for a job well done. Breeding dogs is no different. -Alan
@@must_love_labs lol you are the first breeder that is honest! i live in austria near germany and every dog breeder you ask here denys that its profitable lol. I always wondered if they feed theire puppys gold or something because they are so expensive and they wanna tell me they barely make profit. They say the vet is expensive and the food but nobody can tell me that you dont make any profit if you sell 8 or 12 puppys for 1400Euro - 2800Euro each. 1400Euro are about 1660 dollars. Thats also the monthly income for most lower middleclass ppl here.
I'm thinking of becoming a goldendoodle breeder, the breeder that I got 1 of my doodles was overwhelmed with 5 females pregnant until the point of having too many puppies at once that she was given them at half price, watching your video I understood to start small and I agree to that. My question is when time passes by and if I have 1 or 2 puppies left what do I do? I don't think what she did was right. By the way I love 🐕!
I LOVE my dogs.. ALL dogs!! I want to breed my Australian shepherd and German shepherd. The only thing that is preventing me from following through is the guilt about so many dogs abandoned and in shelters..
Great information and tips!! Thank you so much. I’m definitely looking for a puppy now and I was considering to use him as a stud. Do you have any information on that or what’s your opinion? Thank you

I do love labs and i love my choc lab Danner more than anything or anyone! He is such a good boy I swear he can read my mind!! He follows the rules
I bred my bmh last year it was hard work but really rewarding to see family’s going home with their new pup
Great Advice! 🎉
But I have a doubt
Whether
I start with a Single Female Dog
or
I start with a pair of Male and Female Dogs
We just had our first litter of Boston terrier puppies, litter of 7, and they are 8 weeks on Tues December 17. We've sold all but one! Extremely rewarding and a TON of work but we plan on doing it again in about a year

You can email us at mustlovelabs37@gmail.com
We got Livvie from a breeder in Bowling Green, MO who met us half way in Jefferson City where we shot video. 👍
Hi Allen! can you do a video explaining how the tax write off works when starting a hobby breeding business or being a breeder on the side while my mate is the soul provider?? I guess what I'm trying to say is there a tax write off for the dogs?
All businesses are allowed to claim legitimate expenses on their tax filings. Dog breeding is no different. The rules and specifics for this vary widely from state to state. It is best to ask a local CPA where you are these questions, and then follow their advise. Great question!
@@must_love_labs okay, thank you!
I have a CKC german shepherd and a working line AKC german shepherd.
I've had a dna test on my CKC male. Do you know which club is better?
Why stick to just one breed? Do you mean as a beginner or in the long run is mastering one type more beneficial?
Specializing in one breed is definitely more beneficial. As you should know absolutely any & everything you can about the specific breed you would be breeding. You have to know your breed in and out to be producing quality pups.
How would you go about becoming a AKC breeder?
Thanks for the tips 👍
You are welcome 😀
I’m planning to breed soon your tips are helping me big time. Thanks for sharing. Will breed poodles here in the Philippines soon. I already have female red toy poodle she’s emily and she’s turing 4 months on may 9th. Will continue to watch your videos for future reference.
Excellent! I’m glad to be of help and I hope it all goes well for you! More videos coming soon. 👍
Is this Information ONLY for Labs?
No. It’s good for most dogs. 👍
Because I love dogs specially Cane Corso
Question
Do you have to be licensed if so how to or where do you go to apply?
Is pomeranian male and half japanese spitz half terrier female is ok to mate
Love your video! All of your questions were yes! With that said, is 2 female french bulldog too much or should I go with ONE but higher quality french bulldog to start out?
Great question! I choose quality over quantity in most things, including breeding stock for sure!
You mention french bulldogs...James Chopping is in my opinion a “Master Breeder” of frenchies. He has an entire RUclips channel dedicated to them.

Hope that helps!

Great vid keep up the hard work also i want to know how much time u have to dedicate on the dogs
I am interested in breeding a mixed breed, do you have any recommendations for doing this? I am wanting to breed my Yorkiepoos
I’m just glad to live in a society where we have a choice.👍😀

Do you think having 2 Puppies A male & a female is good to start off with.
Yes that is a great way to start! I recommend unrelated purebreds that are AKC registered.
Question for my friend: she lives in Vancouver Canada and she bought 4 female poodles 🐩 she was planning to use a stud but unexpectedly bought a male poodle from a relative .. the problem is .. bylaws only allow 3 dogs max second problem .. what if your renting ?? How do you breed if in a rental .. very difficult to find a landlord who will be ok with one dog never mind 4 and then it’s better to tell them breeding right
The answers to most of your questions are in this video of mine. ruclips.net/video/f9QPnud5rvg/видео.html

I do suggest you watch the series.
@@must_love_labs thank you so much! I will for sure! Your videos are so well done and informative. I really appreciate it!
-Alan
@@must_love_labsthank... okay so you mean I should start with a female and look for a stud outside...
@Angelo Jephter Yes. That is a great way to start. 👍
@@must_love_labs thanks for replying
I’ve been constantly asking my mom “hey can we breed our dogs?” She said maybe crossing my fingers 🤞
Has she said yes?
@@zyklime7158 nope sadly
Rottweiler's Doberman and Cane Corso mostly Rotts
When breeding would I need to get a kennel license? if I have 5 French Bulldogs I plan on breeding

So it’s an up front investment that pays you back your very first litter.
Hope that helps! -Alan
a year later how is it going,
Nice advice sir😇
Thanks man I'm 14 and thinking of becoming a dog breeder ofc with some help from my father (I don't plan on actually starting to breed till I'm like 17) for now I'm just trying to find a breed that I would love spending time with and rn I rlly like Cane Corso any advice or suggestions?
I’m excited for you! Planning ahead for your future with the help of your father is wise! I suggest that once you and your father pick a breed to work with, you spend some time learning all you can about that breed. 👍
@@must_love_labs Thank You man will do 😄👍
The goal should be to improve the breed
Yes normally at least 50% of sale price is profit
I'm thinking of becoming a goldendoodle breeder, the breeder that I got 1 of my doodles was overwhelmed with 5 females pregnant until the point of having too many puppies at once that she was given them at half price, watching your video I understood to start small and I agree to that. My question is when time passes by and if I have 1 or 2 puppies left what do I do? I don't think what she did was right.
By the way I love 🐕!
Great video, thank you!
Where are you located?
Thank you! Southwest Missouri 👍
@@must_love_labs I’ll be emailing you this week. I’d love to ask you a few questions.
Hiiiiiii
I LOVE my dogs.. ALL dogs!! I want to breed my Australian shepherd and German shepherd. The only thing that is preventing me from following through is the guilt about so many dogs abandoned and in shelters..
Who on this earth would watch this if you dont love them dogs????
Great information and tips!! Thank you so much. I’m definitely looking for a puppy now and I was considering to use him as a stud. Do you have any information on that or what’s your opinion? Thank you
We have our own stud (Sam). We use him in our breeding program and it works great for us. I’ll discuss this in some more detail in a video soon. 👍
Why did you want to become a dog breeder.
