As I was watching this video an idea popped into my head, if you haven't done one previously you should make a yo-yo. I don't necessarily mean out of pencils but you could or from some wood in a coloured resin.
Oh yeah, out of some of the shavings he saved from one of his other projects. That would be cool
Or from a mixture of shavings from different kinds such as wood, resin, and maybe if he works with anything else he could add some of those in
I love your channel! The whole video I was spinning mine lol! My favorite part though was seeing your kids feet in the vids and knowing they like to hang out with dad in the shop.
Love your funky energy.....narratives are way better than silence and machine noises. Love that we get to see blunders and great finished products. And you winging it as you go....and variety of projects.
Keep it up Nick.
Keep safe .... from Oz.
Love, love, love the fidget spinner. I don’t wood turn but love watching everything you do Nick. Keep up the fantastic work Nick.
Awesome job Nick!
They would both spin longer if you added some weight (ie: ball bearings or extra skate bearings) on the outer areas of each lobe... That's why there are 4 bearings on the original...
Spot on. The original idea was to use the other bearings as replacements by swapping them around. It also helps if they are real abec bearings, not the fake poor tolerance ones. Sadly, these wouldn't sell without some momentum weight simply because they don't spin for any length of time. Also, the bearings shouldn't be glued in, they should be press fitted so that they can be removed without damaging them.

Hehe, love this Nick, one of the reasons I watch your videos is because I love watching the spinning while you turn a piece. You have the ultimate digit spinner Nick 🤪😁
I'm impressed at how adept you are with the equipment for sanding and shaping and turning and grinding and all that jazz. I know absolutely nothing about this and yet you make it interesting. Thank you. Keep on making neat stuff.
Wow. its amazing how much better the quality of the videos and the comfort of Nick in front of a camera has improved in the past year and some odd months.
Awesome!! If you take the ball-bearings out of the middle before you cast the fidget spinner then you’ll get the circle directly in the middle
FANTASTIC!! Watching you work your magic with colored pencils is very relaxing for me. Thank you for your videos.
It's a Picasso among the fidget spinners, nice video and thanks for sharing.
hey thanks man
I like all the projects you make with the pencils it's just amazing. I wish I had the patience and creativity to make the incredible things you do and not just with pencils anything you make with wood.
Fid-Gee Spinna
Sounds like a good brand name for these things!
im probably wrong with this but from some distant memory of a science lesson a long time ago,as the pencil/resin blanks werent the same consistent density/weight throughout you would get a longer spin by finding the centre of gravity in each spinner and using that to centre the drill hole for the bearing. then they wont be off balance. I think it's something about hanging the object from multiple points and each time drawing lines vertically down from the hanging point. They should meet at the centre of gravity! Excellent channel. Got two under fives who love it and are well up for the makers central meet!
Love your take on the spinners. Thank you!
I haven't been watching your channel for long but I love everything that you make. I've been watching more of your recent videos where you make things with pencils. It's strange seeing you do things this way. But I guess it makes sense with such a small surface.
Awesome fidget spinners! Yes, you are very inspirational and most of all, you're completely FUN!!!
Definitely enjoyed watching you............. make them
I just started watching your videos and I enjoy them. 👍
This video made me fidgety. 🤣😂 Nice work brother! 🤘👍
My youngest seems to be collecting these things, looks like I might have a go. Well done bud
watching the fidget spinner sink . was oddly satisfying. LOL.
hey yeah. I kinda linked that bit also man . thanks for watching buddy
I don't know why but i don't understand all these "satisfying" thingies and videos(not trying to offend anyone)
GJ D different things for different people :) generally people with anxiety and such will tend to like them more
Great video as always Nick! Wish I could really go to the show in the UK, so many people there and a one off thing, but you know my situation. Have a greet weekend!
Love the channel. Next time take the bearings out and spray a few coats of mold release before casting. And yes I just realised I condemn on a 3 year old video lol
Loving your creativity with every project Nick, well done. Also very entertaining.
Will have to show my gran kids they will love them well done nick
Paul Hitchcox thanks Paul buddy . Have a good weekend mate 😜👍🏽👍🏽
That did come out really cool! I like it!
I noticed I was fidgeting throughout the whole vid until you got them done and then I noticed I settled down. I was looking forward to this Fri. video as you said it was going to be different.
Cheers, Lee
Lee Waterman hahaa hope it was different buddy ✌🏽😜
They look awesome mate!!
This is totally an NZ take on fidget spinners. Spot on mate.
Well done Nick fantastic job,I have done pencils in resin projects with my son on the lathe but never a fidget spinner and he is crazy about them, like you I don't know why.Not sure if it would help but his bought one has a central button thingy in the center of the bearing either side to make it easier to hold allowing the bearing to keep going, just a thought.Keep up the good work.
I really enjoy watching your videos
I also try doing the things you make for my kids and family, friends.
Love them!! What a great and funky idea! ❤️💜💙💚💛
Happy Birthday mate. See you tomorrow buddy. Cheers, Jim
Jimson's Stuff Haag thanks buddy 👍🏽
I don't know how many different names you gave it but you are funny. Always get a giggle out of me.
Certainly different Nick, I suppose now it's only me left to make one....but I won't ;)
Great video mate.
Cheers
Mike
They'd look great with some ebony finger pads. Tim Yoder did a spinner and shows how to do the pads. Great project!
I took interest in your pencil pot video streaming online so I decided to look at your RUclips channel and became carried away watching your videos. You're very talented! It's also nice to see that you are very passionate about your work by the way you talk about things in your videos. I've become a subscriber! Keep up the amazing work!
Looks nice and in the spirit of the time. It is now fashionable things.
Nick, very interesting, I learned something about making molds. Always wanted to mold some antique lamp parts that I can never find. Thanks Buddy. Be safe!
Nice Job Nick! Might be off balance due to the differences in weights of each lobe containing different different amounts of pencils. Also adding extra weight to the lobes might help them spin longer. I made some with my kids a couple weekends ago. The pencil ones look really cool!
Some advice with silicon rubber molds ... I use large cookie round cutters stick it onto decifix book cover plastic and places my item to be molded inside the cutter also to stick onto the dicifix, then seal the outside bottom with my gluegun. And pour the silicon it helped a lot with a perfect mold to be sold in my shop
I'm always amazed by your work, such that I'd like to try myself! However can I ask what kind of car is in the background? Sort of reminds me of knight rider
Is..is that a fidget spinner for the loading circle! That's brilliant.
I think my favorite part of this video is hearing you say Fidgit Spinner 12 different ways. LOL. Very cool though...as always.
Oh yes I'll just on the bandwagon and be there ,thank you ,you are enjoy to watch.
they are great to keep your hands and fingers busy was very helpful to me to stop smoking.
Gotta love them fidget spinners, am I right? Yours turned out awesome!!!
Ultimately, those things are just round. I bet you could do something cool on the lathe. Love your vids!
you need to turn some buttons to put into the bearings. maybe stand up some pencil cut-offs in the mold and do an end grain pencil fidget spinner? they look great, Nick.
Enjoyed your video Nick your a very talented man.
fidget spinners are really good for people with anxiety
Super cool! Id love to take it for a spin!
Well Nick I think with your obsession towards pencils you either should of been a school teacher or a school rep for Derwent? You make epoxy jobs look very easy these days. They say practise makes perfect!!! Cheer Sean
Monstrous Procrastinator hahaa thanks buddy . Glad you liked it all great best and have a super weekend 👍🏽
So cool Nick...Great job...! You are to be commended......!
Well done, have a great weekend Nick
Kwstas Antwniou thanks buddy you to sir 😜👍🏽
This is gonna sound weird, but thanks for saying girls too.
Yep, weird alright. Do you often seek that kind of acknowledgment? You do know that when someone says "See you later, guys!" that they're talking about everyone in general?
And apparently you got butthurt by mine.
@@thinkingmonkey8083 chill girl... damn! She just appreciated the fact that he cares about his followers that are girls.
"I don't really see much relevance in it to be fair, *spinning it* that's about it for me" what a freaking respectful way of saying that, no sarcasm. Instead of negating benefits, you acknowledge that you personally don't get much from them.
Probably seems unimportant, but it's not for some. Great videos, been really enjoying them and have learned so much from watching, thanks. :)
Loved the video. Now I can see how to make my own fidget spinners too...I have grandchildren I can gift them to, once I get them made that is. LOL! Blessings!
Awesome work. I thought it was just a craze in the states
I know im late.....but couldnt help but notice the car in the back lol. If it is what it is, you need to make a video of tht! Pretty please 😍😍
00:04:15 wait, if the fidget spinner sinks so easily, won't it sink to the bottom?
00:05:45 yep
Just working my way they the wood turning & stuff, have you thought about making some with some of the sawdust leftover from spectraply projects? Just a thought, Chickadee 😉
nice one Nick, love your video's
Best fidget spinner video on RUclips!
Franciska Nagy hahaa thanks man !!👌🏼😜👍🏽 have a super weekend ✌🏽
My 6 year old son said "wow they're cool mummy!" Him and his sister have a whole collection of fidget spinners, I don't see the what the craze is about if I'm honest but the kids love them and keeps them quiet for half hour so win win! :-D
was that an 80's Firebird in the background under the tarp?
Nice done!! how can I get one of your handmade fidget spinners??
regards from brazil
Nice video! Another imaginative way to use pencils. If you ever do another pencil spinner I might suggest putting the pencils on end rather than laying them flat. I think that would produce a more colorful result.
Regards,
theBigDadoo
Nice art. Love your videos!
i think from the video at the end the one in your left hand as a little bit of an odd shape which will slow it down quicker but they look amazing dude i was thinking of making one in my garage but out of a piece of oak or something like that
very sweet. you could even add steel balls to the arms to add a bit of weight which would get them spinning a bit better. I have to admit though, those are fidget spinners i could get behind.
as usual your new and unusual take on the usual...nice one Nick.
Any new projects coming our way? All I see most of the time are your videos from 3-6 years ago....which are GREAT by the way....just want to see updated ones as well!
Nick, is Makers Central going to be broadcasted? Is there an option to purchase an online ticket to watch for people who cant make it?
Hi Nick, sorry to ask but where do you get your resin from as i have purchased resin and it does not turn right at all in fact it is coming off in small chips and taking part pencils with it , I am fairly new at turning and 65 years of age so I hope you can help me with information. Thanks and keep up the good work. Paul
Hi Nick,
Is this "FIDGET FRIDAY"? LOL
I'm very impressed mate, I'm sick of ordering different fidget spinners lol. My kid's lol they're big kid's from 15 up to 35 and their kid's my Grandchildren are crazy about fidget spinners!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they don't see this video... or you can guess what they'll want Granddad to do! Not a hope lol they'll send my head spinning lol.
I like the look of the moulding liquid! that looked very handy.
I thought that having pencils in the spinners would have altered the equivalent sides in weight! but they ended up perfect mate!
A brilliant video, but it should now be locked up with the Crown Jewels for ever so my kids don't see it lol.
Have a great weekend mate 👍 😎 👍
Not at all about the actual video lol, but what an unique shaped garage! It must be interesting backing that car into that spot!
Love the video ! But who is the black jeans person in the background on the right ? Mic or camera 🤣😂🤣😂 !?!?
Nick in most of the videos I’ve watched there a vehicle under a tarp in the background. What type of vehicle is it?
on another comment he said its kitt from knight rider
A beautiful spinner!
BUK thanks Buk buddy 👍🏽
You should revisit this project and do some aerodynamic tapering to them, like propeller blades. Hand held mini fans!
I don't understand the spinners but your spinners are the best!
Hey mate if you ever do silicone moulds again get a hot glue gun and glue it a couple of mil from the bottom and still make sure that the silicone and get to the whole lot to cover it so only a couple of dabs of hot glue and maybe next time take out the bearings and that way you will have a perfect Mould but either way it was still fun and interesting to watch good luck nick
When is your next video? :D Keep it up!
Dude, you crack me up!
Larry Hare haha thanks dude 😜👍🏽👍🏽
Lot of work, and look great. You don’t need them though. You have the shop and Wood Cave😄
Nick,nicely done! thank you:-)
Mahendra Tiwari thanks very much ✌🏽have a great weekend 👍🏽
Nick Zammeti NZ WoodTurning and u too:-)
Enjoyed how you put your on spin on them😉. How'd you get the Bentley pushed back in garage so Well? Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend!
Ron Parrott haha cheers mate that's my KITT car 😜👍🏽
Nick Zammeti NZ WoodTurning I'm just yanking your chain Nick, I know you got a separate garage for those cars.
This project would be cool with colorful wood shavings.
Cool! Thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend! Peace :)
I think these are pretty cool.
They're Brilliance
Nice little job Nick, aka, Pencil King. If you play with a fidget spinner isn't that classed as fidgeting?
The point of the outer ball bearings is so you can do what you're actually meant to do with them (this is annoyance at neurotypical people playing with fidget toys/tools neurodivergent people use to focus/keep ourselves calm, not you), and twist them around with your finger. Like, you put it on a flat surface, and then put your finger on one of the end pieces and spin it round, keeping your finger on it.
As an aside, it's not meant to stop you fidgeting, but to provide a less distracting fidget (so you aren't bothering others with it).
Of course, now they're banned in lots of schools so they're not much help to those neurodivergent folks anymore.
I'm so curious... Do people donate their color pencils? Endless supply of pencil projects and I love it...
I like how as Nick is putting in the bearings, someone else is swinging their foot in and out of camera range.
I think with the mould you put the item in first if it's heavy
Nick you are bomb! Thanks
Maybe i missed it but surprised you have not made an epoxy skateboard with epoxy wheels for wall art?
