      Thanks for watching and for commenting. In a period bank robbery escape it would all be down to who can start first and I was distracting my friend (the owner) as usually without me getting the way it bursts into life very quickly, obviously once you have set it on fire and let it warm up. Once its running then 20+ mph will leave the police way behind, unless they had a fast horse! All the best Paul.

      @@crashburnfly If you were using it in a bank robbery, you would leave the engine running while your mates were robbing the bank. You wouldn't turn it off and mess around trying to start it. The cops wouldn't have to start their car to chase you if you were waiting for the tube to warm up...they would just run over to you and put you in hand cuffs.

    When I see people complaining about modern cars being too complicated and we should get back to basics this is what I imagine. It has all the luxuries including a seat, air conditioning and easy access for servicing. It's a wonderful machine but I'll keep my 21st century over complicated conveyance thanks 😊

    • @crashburnfly
      @crashburnfly  8 месяцев назад +10

      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Much appreciated. It has 3 seats and the big seat on the front was known in period as "The Mother-in-law Killer" as she would be upfront in the event of a crash! Also, it would be difficult to hear what she was saying/screaming over the engine and wind noise. Having been out for a spin in the front seat it is like being precariously perched on the front edge of the bonnet of an old VW beetle whilst someone drives it. To begin with it is a bit disturbing and then you realise it is a fantastic way to make progress through the countryside as nothing is in front of you to obscure your view - you are just whooshing almost magically along taking the air. It will cruise at 25 mph so very effective air con. It is 128 years old and still gets used. It normally starts more easily, but I was distracting the starting process.

      If I had to choose between this thing and a new computer controlled ones, I would seriously choose the old one. It has been around for over 125 years and even though it's been restored, it still runs. How many of these new ones will even be able to get restored to running condition in 100 years? 0... as in NONE. There won't be even 1 of the new ones that are able to be made to run BECAUSE they are so high tech.

    • @givemespace2742
      @givemespace2742 8 месяцев назад +1

      Oh and as for the 'high tech' not running in 100 years time I think the least problems will be the electronics which are contrary to popular belief on the whole quite reliable. I see cars with 'computer contrlled' engines still running and they are getting close to 40 years old if not older. Engine control is not a problem because you can just replace the original control unit with something that does the same job. It's done all the time. Other systems like stability control etc would be harder but not impossible. It would just have to be work the effort. The real killer is specialised non electronics or electro mechanical parts like seals, torque converters, transmission valve bodies, brake parts etc. If you have ever tried restoring a car from the 60's or 70's the lack of mechanical parts is generally the deal breaker. There are ways around it. Electronics are neither unreliable, well more modern stuff, or magic. Computer controlled stuff is actually easier to work around. One of the reason why you see so many early cars (100 years old ish) is because they are often but not always) fairly simple and people are prepared to put the time, dedication and effort into getting parts made or restored. I'll stick with a car that has brakes on all wheels, handles, stops and goes well and won't need an engine rebuild at 100k miles like the cars I grew up with. If you like basic, stick with it but I don't care if my daily drive is going to last 100 years. Most likely not. It's a good car to drive on a daily basis and the mod cons have saved my backside at least once. Still doesn't detract from the Oldsmobile though. It's a fine piece of machinery and kudos to the owner for keeping it alive. I'm glad we have come such a long way from that though.

    • @todddenio3200
      @todddenio3200 8 месяцев назад

      @@givemespace2742 you can drive what you want. I will stick with what works for me and what has NEVER left me broke down and stranded along the side of the road. The only vehicles that have broke down and left me stranded have been computer controlled. As for the older ones not being able to last more than 100,000 miles? I have had some from the 50's and 60's that were still running strong with over 300,000 miles on their engines and mechanical parts and had outlasted the bodies which were replaced with ones that were rust free from outside of the rust belt.

      Thanks for watching and for your comments - It has 3 wheels so it can be considered to be either under UK driving rules. Best regards Paul.

    Sadly, the driver is having to put up with a rather exasperating commentary with insulting comments about,"tat".

      Thanks for watching and taking time to comment. "Tat" is not meant as an insulting term, but rather one of endearment. I am sorry you did not like my commentary. Best regards Paul.
