I'm sorry, but you have lost your mind obsessive with your own ideas and so are unable to see the blatantly obvious. Why did he not change it immediately at half time? It's pretty obvious the reason why and that is because for the last 5 or 10 minutes of the first half, England were like a boxer that had there opponent on the ropes and Slovakia were clinging on to not hit the floor. Why would the boxer change what they are doing at that point when it is working. Of course 10 to 15 minutes into the second half the opponent had managed to get off the ropes so the change was made. There is nothing complicated to understand about that. Secondly, you have been obsessed with the idea that different players are played and they have been. Alexander-Arnold is off, as you demanded, Mainoo is playing as you demanded and Palmer has had more opportunity than any other sub, yet the results have not been that much better. In fact, the players you have ignored and Southgate chose without your mention have had more impact than the ones you go on about. Palmer has yet to give an assist or score and contributed to messing up what was going to be the goal of the tournament against Slovenia when Anthony Gordon produced the pass of the tournament to Mainoo, which was followed by an act of delightful skill and pass by Mainoo to Kane. Kane too followed this by a delight pass to Palmer who was out of position, asleep and too late to the ball which he followed by a pathetic shot that might as well have been a pass to the goalie and should have won us that game. If that was Saka playing there instead of Palmer, he would have been in the right position for the pass from Kane and would have been free to run clean on goal or had a free shot and scored. So once again your ideas have proved wrong there, but that the fact is, while the players you demand play have succeeded in nothing, most especially Palmer, to the point that I play a game where when Palmer has the ball I count 10 seconds knowing the ball will be in the hands of the opposition by the end of those ten seconds, other players who have had less time on the pitch have created assists or special unforgettable attacking contributions. Mainoo was never a priority in your discussions of who should play yet he has had a considerable positive impact in his contribution and looks the most consistently high performer in the final third for England with his play not only calm and of quality way beyond his years in tight spaces, but equal in level of control of the ball, passing, temperament, intelligence and quality of delivery you would find in a Man City team or any great Spanish or Italian team and he has achieved this level of ability and maturity at just 19 years of age. For England, he is the big and shocking surprise of this tournament at just how good he is and the world is watching it. I predict his price is going to surge at the end of this tournament with top teams after his signature around the world even if England go no further. Manchester United better watch out. Great stuff. Peace and love

Still offers himself for passes, tries to dribble, cuts inside, takes on a 1v1. All palmer has done is get a runout against a tiring Slovenia and lob in a dozen hopeful balls against Slovakia.

When the squad was announced I suspected issues. The team lacks balance! You are coached from a very young age how to set up in shape, how to move in shape, positional play, starting positions, distances and angles and from the first game in this tournament the team shape, movement as a unit, discipline to regain shape and get compact when out of possession and position has been shocking. Kane, Foden, Trippier and Bellingham have all been trying to operate in the same half space area on the left, check out the pass maps and heat maps of each of them and they are all identicle

Football is all about balance and there is none in this side. They should be 3 changes from this side that started and that is Foden benched for Gordon . Tripper off for Gomez or Konsa and Kyle Walker who’s been shocking for Trent . From this commentary it seems that any starting 11 Southgate puts on will result in a stink fest. So maybe it really isn't a WORLD CLASS squad? And if you really look at it, compared to any other Top 8 squad, England's bench apart from Palmer is maybe just a little above average. Even in this match, do you really think that Eze and Gordon, with less than 10 caps for England combined, are that much better than Haraslin or Schranz? Of course England can play better, but the delusion is just ridiculous. And I don't buy the criticism of Southgate in this match. He made good subs in ET that helped to manage the game till the end. And the second half overall was good, knowing that Slovakia is a very hard team to break down.

So let me get this straight, Southgate gets no credit for CHOOSING to keep on Bellingham and kane who both score but he'd get slaughtered if they hadn't scored for not "having the courage" to sub them for fresh legs 🤷
Southgate gets called lucky because these players have "bailed him out" yet he gets no credit for picking these players and making subs that have affected the game 🤷
He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't and im sick of the toxicity from all the Debbie downers.
Criticism is ok if its intelligent and constructive but just calling southgate names and calling england woeful is overboard and pointless.

    • @joebees21
      @joebees21 3 месяца назад +1

I'm sorry but Southgate deserves no credit for that win tonight.
He is genuinely devoid of any managerial talent and tonight showed that perfectly.
We have the best squad in this tournament (despite Southgate trying to ruin that as well bringing Shaw) and we have a wealth of attacking talent that he doesn't use.
He sets up exactly the same every game - there is no thought about the actual opposition that we're playing.
His game management is seriously lacking, both in terms of changing shape and subs. At half time we were crying out to change that front 3 - bringing on Toney with 2 mins are you joking?
We didn't win that tonight because of Southgate - we won that because of pure chaos.
I'm not even sure what formation or style of play we were going for at the end. About 8 defenders, Saka playing in goal probably - it was pure chaos and we won from a long throw and a magical bicycle kick.

    • @philbarton2832
      @philbarton2832 3 месяца назад

      @@joebees21 "Best squad" is debatable.
I'm not saying Southgate doesn't have any faults but saying he sets up every game the same is just straight up false, you only have to look at the Trent in midfield "experiment" as a prime example. He also often plays 3 at the back or 4 and he's constantly bringing in new players to the squad over the years. The whole Southgate plays the same way all the time is a myth.
We actually weren't crying out to change the front 3 at half time, if you remember, England we're well on top of Slovakia in the last 10 mins of the first half so it's completely understandable that Southgate wanted to see if that would carry on from kick off of the second half which it did.
His decision not to sub kane and Bellingham was proven to be the right call as they both scored. I'm sure he didn't want to play Toney at all but at that late stage when balls will be flying in it made sense to use him for the last 8 mins or so (2+6 added on).
I didn't see chaos, I saw Southgate improvising making calculated gambles but we still had a Southgate formation and our dominance continued all that second half. If Foden and kane score those sitters it's game over before the late drama anyway, both misses aren't southgates fault

@@philbarton2832 I'm gonna have to completely disagree with you here mate.
First of all you can't seriously be using the Trent in midfield experiment as an example of Southgates tactical ability.
I'll leave that one because it isn't even fair.
Second of all, we have played the exact same formation with the exact same 10 players in every game so far and that includes the same back 4.
      We haven't played a back 3 we've played a back 4.
We were crying out to change the front 3.
Yes you can say Kane scored but that could've been anyone there.
Foden and Kane were as ineffective as they have been all tournament and Saka was getting bullied.
It was crying out for a change of Gorden, Palmer and Watkins/Toney.
Look how much we improved when Palmer came on.
Okay I'll take your point that Southgate wanted to see if the momentum continued in the second half but when nothing happened by the 60th minute - where was the sub?
He doesn't make tactical substitutions ever.
I don't mean to be rude but I don't know what game you were watching at the end if you thought that was a calculated move by Southgate.
He basically threw the kitchen sink at it and threw everyone on.
We had about 5 defenders, almost everyone was playing out of formation.
It was chaos and we won there because they're good players.
How is bringing on Toney with 6 minutes to go gonna do anything?

@@joebees21 I used the Trent point as a counter to your point of saying Southgate doesn't change it up, using Trent in midfield shows that he does change it up.
I agree with you that he should change the players a little bit more, even though Foden played alot of good crosses against Slovakia I can't help but think Gordon as a natural and more direct LW would of been a better option.
He changed to a back 3 in the second half last match.
It could of been anyone there but it also could not, the fact is kane WAS there and Southgate gambled to keep him on even though he was fatigued. Same with Bellingham, both players were knackered but Southgate knew big players make big moment's so his calculated gamble paid off on both counts.
When Trippier came off injured it was a big call to move Saka at to LWB because Southgate knew we were all over them and wanted more attacking players on the pitch, Saka did a job for us and should be commended.
Toney came on in the last 8 mins not 6, managers throw on a striker with around 10 mins to go all the time. Southgate was playing all his cards at that point, I believe he knew England had at least one more chance at scoring seen as we were battering them, he believed we'd equalise and then he knew Toney is a very good target man for extra time and he proved it with his header to kane for the winner in extra time.
You can try and downplay it as "throwing the kitchen sink" but these players are on the bench for a reason, subs constantly prove how important they can be.

What world class players does England have? All these English players aren’t the best players at their club teams. This tournament was their opportunity to prove that their players are world class and so far we haven’t seen it.

"we went through because of the individual talent of the players on the pitch, but Southgate got it wrong" All of the pundits I have heard will have dropped H.Kane and/or J.Beliingham, or subbed them at 60 minutes. Leave them to it, our biggest worry is missing Ghuehi, not the manager, the tactics, the opponents, or the starting squad. Saving the subs for extra time was wise, and keeping our most talented players on for the majority of the match is inarguable, the goals proved that!
