  • The vehicles, rolling stock and buildings from Midderst have now been put away and replaced by those for my Cornish main line layout Parstiche. This version of Parstiche is set in 1969 during a time when the old Western Region is being slowly replaced by British Rail's corporate blue period. The running in board and station waiting room are still in the old Western Region brown and cream colours but new style station signage can be seen on the platform lamps. Diesels and rolling stock are mainly in first generation liveries but BR Corporate Blue and Grey colours are now starting to appear.

Nice to see Parstiche back again - what an excellent layout - I agree with your comments about using old locomotives & rolling stock - recycling is the way to go. Keep up the good work.

Most enjoyable video. Great to see how much realism can be created in such a small space. I wholeheartedly agree with your point about what can be achieved with older models, the price of some recent releases, especially Bachmann's, is becoming ridiculous.

Thanks for your kind comments and agreement to my modelling philosophy....I see that Bachmann's new Midland Pullman Set has an RRP of £750!!! Regards Keith

Dear Keith, I really enjoyed your modelling videos. I must admit I prefer the period railways more than the preserved! You are my direct inspiration for picking up some mainline wagons and Lima locomotives for a forthcoming project. I have been bashing some triang coaches under the instruction of a 1950s railway modeller magazine and I think they look quite nice too!
Your demonstrations have been invaluable in illustrating how a little modelling finesse can overawe wallet modelling.

Dear William, thank very much for your kind comments. As you know I am a great fan of old Lima etc products and love working on them......I think I would be a little worried about trying to weather some of the much more expensive modern offerings from Hornby and Bachmann but the older locos can still be picked up for reasonable sums and if I make a mess of them it doesn't matter so much. I too remember the old articles in the RM about bashing Triang clerestories into representations of old Southern Railways coaches and pretty good they looked too, Regards Keith

Always love seeing your updates, although somehow missed this one. It always makes me consider what i want to do with my layout, and to remember rule 1, do it so i will enjoy it.

Parstiche is the third version of the layout, merely by swapping buildings and stock which gives me many more running options on a small baseboard...thanks Keith

Agreed and far too much fuss made over couplings. I find the larger ones work better for myself.
