Nah, she was 25 when this came out. By the way, she just turned 60 the other day. And she's already planning on re-issuing her back catalog with never before heard tracks from the original masters which she saved from destruction. Marina is very good at keeping old master tapes and preserving them lovingly.
Fun fact: “Teen Idle”, released in August 1987 was Marina’s last song before she went on a hiatus from music until her mysterious disappearance in January 1992. This song surprised fans and critics alike as it was a complete novelty from what everyone expected from Marina as she always sang catchy pop and dance songs before and never really ventured into power ballads and emotionally charged lyrics. The surprise factor and the fact that the song is emotionally powerful allowed “Teen Idle” to stay in the charts for 19 weeks in a row. She decided to focus on raising her daughter Marina Diamandis Jr. who was born in 1985 but that didn’t stop her from finally getting her two first Grammy Awards in 1989 and 1990. When she vanished in January 1992, “Teen Idol” also made a comeback on the charts for a few weeks before rapidly dropping out again which was unprecedented in the history of music industry. Till this day, her disappearance is still an unsolved case as nobody knows what really happened to Marina. Did she get kidnapped and killed? Or did she stage her own disappearance?
I remember this! Back in 1987, Marina made this cool little album called "The Electric Heart", in some songs she would use one of her friends to create a natural chorus instead of editing like other artists, As a matters of fact the title is a reference to that EXACT girl! Unfortunately, Marina made a statement in 1993 stating in '91 she had died of an overdose. Stay safe guys (Also welcome back, exile!)
Man, you're back! You're bringing back memories of me listening to this song on a cassette, that my dad smuggled from France to authoritarian Poland. It was a real miracle to get it. I'd been listening to this song so many times when I felt down. Thank you exile ❤
I totally remembered when that track was released in August of 1987, a month before she released her fourth studio album "Flaming Hearts". It was her most successful album for Virgin Records. And it was also one of Virgin's best selling albums they released - which proved it made the American music industry nervous, and the British music industry much stronger.
Another banger, exile. Well produced mate. Really proud of your work. Theming was perfect. I barely give praise for anything but I'm really, really impressed. Hearing this makes me want to get back into production, haven't touched FL or Ableton in almost 10 years but you're lighting a fire in me with your originality.
Oh, and I have to ask you - where can I get your songs in FLAC (or anything above 128kbps) - I was checking your SoundCloud, and it doesn't have download links and some of the more recent songs, and also your Patreon doesn't seem to have those, neither did I see a Bandcamp page. :0 I'm maybe the last person on earth who cares and has a dedicated Walkman with a 512GB card full of locally stored Hi-Res audio files, cause streaming on phones is nice, but they still kinda sound off to me, even with a Deezer Lossless sub - so I would absolutely love that, cause your mastering sounds so nice, even through the compression on YT. Would be bliss in HQ.
In the original: The cheers saying “Feeling super, super, super...” I can imagine them being gothic cheerleaders with poker faces lined up side-by-side & you see the beautiful Goddess Marina floating upwards behind them to Heaven as their saying “Feeling super, super, super” while doing cheerleading acts in slow motion with their pom-poms.
This but with 1.25 as the speed sounds like a sound that'll be used in a 90's movie where she's contemplating and planing her revenge whilst still pretending undercovered.
This came out when Marina was two. Such a great voice for her age.
You mean 22. Her daughter remade this song.

Mariah wrote All I Want For Christmas Is You at age 2 in 1994, we stan our child prodigy pop queens!

I remember her playing this in '87 at a concert in West Germany, the next day she went to Czechoslovakia for her groundbreaking first concert there.
A great memory from those years, it's a pity it wasn't picked for the Heathers movie soundtrack.
Suddenly remembering how obsessed with this song i was
I was a teenager when this music came out and it became my anthem during those years. I miss those times, I miss Marina and The Cassettes
Man I remember this I was -11 years old when my mom kept replaying this tape evry evening! What a time to not be alive yet

If the song was called Teen Idol & if it was meant for Tiffany for her debut album Tiffany👩🏻🦰🖤💙🤍
Any chance we'll get the instrumental for this masterpiece?
Ha, Mandy Smith.
Sandy Olsson :)
Listen on 1.25x
Bop, slap...giving a bit of Madonna "Live To Tell" vibes!
@2x speed, it sounds like a J Pop track for an anime program.
'Oh boy a new Exile remix!'
>hears the lyrics
>reads a trans allegory into it
>desperately yearns for a girlhood that didn't happen.
>breaks down.
