One thing to note, notice how the upper body, glove, blocker, and stick ALWAYS remain in position throughout the butterfly slide. This is critically important in helping the tendie remain SQUARE in your positioning.
@@dabootvv Maybe for you young bucks, but I'm a 40+ beer league ball hockey goalie. I'm so old, I was never even taught how to do a butterfly. I was taught moves like skate saves and stacking the pads instead. I'm so old, I was taught to avoid going down, and to get back up asap when I did. I'm so old, my first set of goalie gear was brown leather stuffed with horse hair. For real. The gear available today seems like advanced alien technology to me. It's truly remarkable how far it's come. And modern goaltending simply wouldn't be possible without those advances in equipment.
@nuynobi yeah, I feel ya man. I'm 48, with a full hip replacement, that was also taught the same as you. I can go left to right, but I cannot go the other way. My right side, especially the ankle & such, don't have the same flexibility as my left side. But the new gear is definitely light years different from our old, brown leather, deer/horse hair stuffed pads. That would get wet and weigh a ton 😂. Anyways, take care, good luck & God bless 🙏🏻
Great lesson thanks. I'm 50 years old. Just started playing about 2 years ago. I can only stand back up from butterfly position on my left leg. If I try to get up on my right leg I'll fall. Any tips much appreciated!
Off ice do some single leg strength training. When you work both legs together your stronger leg automatically does more work. You have too isolate them and work them separately to balance them out from my experience

Okay thanks for the info
Cut to me trying it and queue the theme to “curb your enthusiasm.” Seriously I’m just learning this and it’s a disaster. I know I’ll get there!
This guy is also a comedian, Ryan is it?
