    Solid review. The comparisons to other the 14 inch were helpful as well.

    Thanks for the review. I just got 2 13s AMD R7 from TigerDirect at a great price. They were lower than Lenovo with 16gb RAM and 2K(?) screen for under $800ea. Love the performance so far. I wish it came with a 1 or 2 tb SSD.

      Holy smokes tiger direct still exists. I bought from them for years. I though they disappeared. Time to check them out

    Great job on the video. Comprehensive and worth the half hour plus runtime. Please do post updates on any issues with the laptop, and maybe 6 months down the line, a long term review about how it's holding up, how's the battery life etc.

    I loved my Dell XPS 13 (2015). Looks like Dell refuses to make Ryzen XPS models, so this looks like a good alternative upgrade.

    This laptop is on my short-list, but haven't been able to find a review of this unit anywhere. Beau is very clearly knowledgeable about laptops. Thanks for posting this.
    Beau did mention that his unit was FHD but the unit I found is QHD. It is a bit frustrating that you can't find more Windows laptops out there in the 16:10 aspect ratio and QHD resolution, but it's getting better. Maybe it's the competition from Apple forcing this.
    I'm hoping the debut of the M1 and 8-core Ryzen will shake things up at Intel. It seems like Intel has plateaued. Hopefully they can come back as a market leader and still keep their domestic manufacturing base. I don't want to have to buy everything from China.
    Again, nice work on the review.

    Just ordered this laptop at a great deal, 635 before taxes. I heard that the keyboard on this is a bit slick and not too tactile unfortunately, but something I can live with. I wish all Lenovo laptops came with the truestrike keyboard from the Legion or similar thinkpads.

    I have this exact same laptop and found it to be excellent with the exception to the fan noise. It sounds like a jet taking off, really makes me think if have a defective product. It’s LOUD compared to my elitebook.

    • @petahlee
      @petahlee 3 года назад +1

      @@TechGuyBeau yes, 4800U. Even ram and ssd are the same as yours. It’s silent when the fan is not running but I find that the fan runs a lot, even when it’s under very light load.

    • @petahlee
      @petahlee 3 года назад

      @@TechGuyBeau Mine is already setup on “battery savings” mode which have helped the problem but it still runs to a certain extent. I have similar complaint from others about the same thing so i am sure i am not the only one with this problem. Are you sure your fan is not running?

    • @petahlee
      @petahlee 3 года назад

      @@TechGuyBeau The setting i am referring to was setup in the BIOS. Again, i don’t think i am the only person with this problem as i have read reports of similar occurrence with others. Problem is that “noise” is relative. I know that when compared to my elitebook, this thing is much louder.

    • @petahlee
      @petahlee 3 года назад

      @@TechGuyBeau Thanks for the reply but my elitebook is not an “entry” model. It’s a relatively thin laptop similar to the thinkbook with an I7 8550U, 16GB ram, 512 GB SSD and that is nowhere near as noisy. I am starting to think if i have a defective until but again, i have read reports of the same from others online so i am really not sure what to say as well. I have read that some have redone the thermal past which helped but i am not sure if that is something i want to do with a brand new laptop. Haha.

      @@TechGuyBeau I think i know where our differences in experience is coming from. I did more testing with my machine last night and observed that while the laptop is unplugged, in battery conservation mode, the fan NEVER turns on. In intelligent cooling, it will come on the odd time here and there so no big deal. However, when i have the unit plugged in (95% of the time in my case), that is when the fan noise is very noticeable and i am not finding any difference regardless of cooling mode i set it to. Can you please perform similar test on your unit and let me know of the results?

    This uses m.2 nvme 2242 instead of big 2280 one. So, anything feels slower like boot speed, transfer and program load speed or it's perfectly normal?

    Is the long silver piece covering the hinge plastic or metal? My "concern" for silver painted plastic (with my previous devices) is that it gets scratched over time from the hinge closing/opening. Thanks!
