are you using the AX15 or the AW4? if you are using the AX15, What flywheel and clutch kit did you use :)? please
AX15. The flywheel is BMW single mass, modified XJ clutch disc and BMW pressure plate
Im planing on buying a 2.1td and later upgrading a engine, i was thinking would m57 be a great upgrade, are diffs and axles diffrence bettwen 2.1 td , 2.5td and 4.0i
Hi. As far as I know, XJs from 1989 to 1996 have Dana 35 axles, but the gear ratio differs. To find out what gear ratio your Jeep has, look under the car, on the transfer case, there shoul be a sticker there. If you are planning to put on bigger tires (like 33" or bigger), some Jeep owners suggest to upgrade the axles. Just make sure you have the same gear ratio front and rear. In Romania, most of the guys who swap their engines use Nissan Patrol axles, they are stronger and very good for offroading. I don't do extreme offroading, only overlanding and I mostly use my Jeep on the roads, but I wanted to have stopping power and looking to convert to disk brakes on all 4 wheels. The cheapest option was to swap the rear axle entirely, so I did. I found a Ford Explorer rear axle with the same gear ratio as my front axle. Now, if you want to buy a 2.1 td, those are better than the 2.5 TD VM, but they lack power. M57 is an excellent engine, so is the Mercedes OM606, but in your case I would recommend to consider a VW 1.9 TDI engine. It will deliver about 150 BHP, it's smaller, so you have enough space in the engine bay, and you won't have to modify the axles. It's easier to swap, you can find parts easily in Europe, and even conversion kits.

Salut. Rotile se pot omologa. Costa, e drept, dar se pot omologa. Altfel, mergi la ITP cu rotile ei de fabrica. Eu o folosesc daily, overlanding cel mult, nu offroad. Piesele se gasesc greu, ce e drept, dar se gasesc. Din 91, deci o ai cu motor de Ranult? Daca nu in tara, piese se gasesc pe Amazon sau site-uri din afara. Chedere gasesti la rockauto.com

Salut, multumesc. Se comporta foarte bine in ce priveste motorul, partea mecanica. Nici o problema, M57 este un motor foarte fiabil. Nu este o masina insa de stat in trafic, bara la bara :)) nu stie sa meargă incet :))

Am condus Xj cu motorul 2.5, mi s-a părut acceptabil pentru un daily sau cand e nevoie să mergi și pe asfalt prin orașe. Tot văd swapuri pe Patrol, Xj, însă nu știu cum se simt de zi cu zi, cum se simte ambreiajul, cât de smooth e la schimburi de treaptă, la porniri de pe loc. E asemănător ambreiajului de curse, sacadează la pornirile lente de pe loc? Al tău cum se simte?
@@brasto4589 cam smuceste la plecarea de pe loc, de aia zic ca nu e masina de stat bara la bara, in rest de la a doua in sus schimba lin. Vreau sa trec la o volanta cu masa simpla sau poate o cutie automata de bmw, numai ca la asta din urma nu stiu cat de mult trebuie sa tai din consola si nu vreau sa se vada aiurea inauntru. Altfel, merge de rupe, cu 2.5 nu depaseam coloane si in deal :))

Hi, thanks. Yes, it is a manual. I kept the Jeep gearbox, but the clutch assembly is from the BMW donor car. Only the throwout bearing and sleeve are from the Jeep.
Poti sa faci un drive test dar fara muzica, sa auzim cum suna motorul la urcare si off road? Nice job. Cat timp ti-a luat sa montezi motorul si data a fost difficult sa-l adaptezi la gearbox? Ai mai facut swap inainte sau Asta a fost prima schhimbare de motor?
@@WolfDog8458 am pus un drive test pe sosea. Pe dealuri, de acum cand o sa ma intorc in tara pot sa fac. La mine e primul swap, dar nu l-am facut eu, finul meu.

Hi, I've got a 2001 VM diesel XJ. I'd love to do the M57 swap. Besides the engine and gearbox adapter plate, what other mods were needed to make the swap work?
Hi. It all depends what you want. But as a minimum, the engine, ECU, adaptor plate, engine mounts and a good electrician :) no two swaps are the same :)

@@user-tm6wg6ub7v well, just to give an idea, I've been working on mine for a little over two years. Almost everything on the car is new. And I still have a little issue to deal with. The idea is if you are like me and you want a daily driver, something you can take out on the road, not just on a trail from time to time, then be prepared to spend time and money :)
Yeah that's the issue. It's my daily driver, and not being a mechanic myself I'd have to pay someone to do it. So I reckon it could get very expensive. Think I'll have to stick with the VM for now (which tbh is not as bad as everyone says. Could just do with a not more hp and fuel economy).
@@user-tm6wg6ub7v @user-tm6wg6ub7v have you considered swaping it for a 1.9 td from a wv? You'll get more power, better mileage and it's smaller, an easier swap.

I used to, now I have a new, bigger intercooler fitted.
@@thegreengoblin76 I’m on the middle of the swap but I’m not sure if there is room for the intercooler and the ac condenser. Was the factory intercooler good enough?
@@cesarsuarez2954 not very good. I fitted mine in the front bumper. Since I made this video I put back the original bumper, I had no real need for the which. So the intercooler I got fitted perfectly inside the front bumper, we had to cut a piece and fit a mesh to allow for the air flow. Hard to explain, I will try to upload a short video

It's not original color. I mean it is factory green, but I had it painted Raptor Green
