A great recording from Conway's early country days, which I prefer. All the songs that Haggard wrote & had hits with that I like we're always sung better by somebody else!! Charley Pride on "I Kept The Wine... this song, & others. Hope I don't step on too many toes, but I never liked Hagg- ard's voice; he could write 'em but he couldn't sing 'em! Conway nailed this one! Nice steel work, par for the course with his late 1960's recordings.
Stopped by to love me some Conway! Songs concerning men in prison who obviously have regret and are longing for redem- tion and pleasant memories of the past are always great topics for country singers & song writers. This is one of the most moving. Except for those who have committed such heinous crimes that they should have been execu- ted long ago, and other real "baddies," I think there should be a program for those men who are minor offen- ders and are trying to get their lives together to have smart phones which have been disabled for calling but can access prison WiFi systems to Google you tube for music. Songs like this would prove highly popular. Great music is a power- ful rehabilitating force. The thought of being without it should keep us from ever taking it for granted. The homeless can tell you a thing or two about that. Thank God, you tube, & great channels like BE MISTY.
