By far one of the greatest voices in country music history. Conway Twitty was a rare talent. This is one of the best live performances I've seen. He was one of those few that always sounded better live than in studio. Check out his 1990 performance of "It's Only Make Believe" if you still don't believe. He was in his late 50's and in declining health, and still NAILED it.

I have to admit, I did come from Family Guy. But, after listening to a lot of his music (this being the first song I heard from him after watching the episode with this song in it), this man made beautiful music. He was very soothing, very powerful with his words, and just plain amazing to listen to. This song is probably my favorite from him. Very bittersweet, very beautiful.

People say music evolves and each generation doesn't understand the next but honestly from a technical standpoint, modern music lacks genuine instruments and decent vocals. At least Miley Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers could hold a note. The new garbage isn't even singing, just noise with a lot of synthesized instruments. I'm saying that and I'm much older than the two examples, because their music were the last gen to sound at least catchy.

Just because Family Guy brought people here shouldn't be upsetting to old school country lovers. I grew up on Conway, and have known about this from my grandma, so when I saw it on Family Guy it brought back so many memories. You guys cannot forget that Seth MacFarlane is an AMAZING singer and highly respects the greats like Twitty. He is a man of great taste, they were not making fun of him, it was a "distraction" and the fact he got so many people who never knew him or wouldn't normally listen to thisto come back and sit through the entire thing is what is funny. THAT is the joke people. Lol

Now today I hear on the radio one of his grandchildren is playing a tribute show here in town. Somehow Conway has creeped into every decade of my life so I feel I must make a pilgrimage to this performance. 😑 I didn’t choose the Twitty life, the Twitty life chose me.

There will never be another Conway Twitty, aka Harold Lloyd Jenkins. Not even his son or grandson can hold a candle to what Conway was to traditional country music. I see the sparkling little diamond on your hand
It's plain to see that you've already got a man
I can tell you're not about to fall for any of my lines
I see the want to in your eyes
Deep in your smile there's a quiet, soft desire
Like the ember of a once raging fire
You know I could light that fire again
    You know it isn't wise
I see the want to in your eyes
How strong is a band of gold
Is it strong enough to hold
When a love has grown cold
And a woman wants a love, sweet and warm
How many women just like you have silent schemes
How many men like me do they sleep with in their dreams
You can stay or you can go and although I sympathize
I still see the want to in your eyes

Have been loving this singer since the 70s (born in '73). He is incomparable...Staggering genius of country. My grandparents LOVED him. Eight track tapes in the Lincoln were almost all Conway. He was everywhere in the 70s - just tearing hell out of the radio and tv. Funny Aside: I remember mentioning him to my dad way back then and his sole reply, verbatim, was "he has a head like f'n Frankenstein, son." HAHAHAHA. I'd hope that Mr. Twitty himself would find that funny, too. I'll always miss you, Conway. Say hello to my sweet grandparents, Buck and Bootsie, while you're at it. They're up there dancing to your music.

Discovered this song through Family Guy. Made me cry the first time I listened. The joke for the context of the show was over 10 seconds into the clip. They could have cut it there. But I think Sethe McFarlane legitimately wanted people to hear this clip. The 3rd pre-chorus makes me tear up everytime. The power in his voice. He's almost screaming those notes. It's incredible.

American classic country music is very popular amongst a lot of indigenous Australians ( mostly the older one's now ) the younger generations go for hip hop and r and b stuff, but to me - I think these older style Country Music stars from America are fantastic talents and are a irreplaceable and rare sound. Although it was mostly purely a music thing - not really about who these artists were personally. All that mattered was that great sounding style of music and singing. In Australia, it was Slim Dusty as a favourite country music choice.
