Solar systems are fairly simple. It's like anything else I have learned. Break it into its individual systems and components. There are plenty of videos online, but most of what you do will be dictated by the components you buy. Will Prowse has some good videos, and will make you a little more solar savvy.
I myself am fully off grid in the desert in Southern Utah.

Just setting up the solar system alone, is a massive achievement. You are a very clever chap and should be really proud of how far you’ve come. You’ve taught yourself so much, people go to uni for years so they can achieve what you’ve done single handedly.
You’ve both worked incredibly hard and deserve so much happiness with your young family in your new home. I wish you all the very best future. xxx

We had a beagle pooch when I was about 5 years old, her name was Beaux Beaux which means "Beautiful", in French I believe! Beagles one would not usually look at as a Beautiful dog but my Mother felt she was and that became her name. So when you told all of us your "Beautiful" baby's name, I told my husband oh, I hope they spell it like our Beaux Beaux was, and I was so happy to see it "Beau" !! She is such a cutie and has grown so fast it seems. She's definitely Daddys helper and a good one. Cam seems to be growing right along too...I am so very proud of you two kids, building your home, no outside help and bringing two beautiful children into the world in the mist of it all. God Bless the four of you.... Jo

      Hey Guys,
I have to say that this was a really inspiring episode on a couple levels. On 1 level, as a house painter, I really appreciate the difference finishing the trims can make. I know you didn’t spend a ton of time on that in this episode, but I know that it’ll have such a huge impact!
On the 2nd level, I’ve been watching Spencer mess with the solar array for weeks. As a junior astrology nerd, I understood the principle, but to see it action made for a tremendous visual understanding of the massive impact it would have!
I kinda felt like it was a space movie and the protagonist just finished repairing the ship and the camera pans to the console. Everything was plugged in and you see that power has been restored!
Super fun guys! Such a great episode for me! I could see the confirmation confidence oozing off you both!
      And Beau was Super Cute!!!
      Love from Vancouver, Canada! 🇨🇦

I had a couple of thoughts, if you don't mind hearing them. I would drive grounding rods and mount lightning rods in the area. I think that old power pole could be useful to you all, as you've mounted your cellular signal booster antenna before, and if that street light still works, you could have that light up the area at night, if you don't already. And, now that you've got all that great work done, maybe the next steps will be to increase your battery bank's capacity and add a wind turbine for cloudy but windy days. Also, you could plant bushes and trees next to the solar panels to block the view of them from your home. At any rate, I love your videos and want to encourage you all to keep up the good work.

Well they have lots of trees around. A Wind mill must be way above the tree line to have it's full potential. I built some and even Trees 100m away can substantially impact the air stream. Such a high pole require a big heavy base and a really good pole. Also strain strings are needed to up high to protect the pole from flexing to much in the wind and survive high winds. I don't know if you really want to have something like this on a such beautiful property like they have. Adding a 3rd Array and more battery is the way to go, and also if they go EV then hopefully they will buy a car which allows bidirectional usage so that the car can also be used as a power source for the house.

In a bathroom a natural decor potted succulent in the window. This is what my husband did when we framed out our windows. It brings the outdoors inwards and gives the rooms colour. The house looks amazing you're almost there. 👍 Cheers🇨🇦

I can’t even imagine how wonderful this must feel for you guys - it’s not even my house and I’m amazed and so happy for you and to see all of your exhausting hard work turn into all this and that you allowed so many people to go along on this journey with you I personally thank you very much. It’s funny just the other day I was thinking of asking you if baby girl had seen the lights, Inside the house, yet. It was delightful seeing her reaction because that’s a pretty awesome set up.💕

BTW they have CRAZY BRIGHT led lighting for out door. And they come with their own solar panel to charge the light during the day. You should check into that. We have one and we LOVE IT. With that pole that high, you will get a LOT of light all around the yard. Just food for thought.

I have enjoyed the journey from start to present. Watching the work the two of you did at the beginning was tiring for me and I’m watching. Most of all I love the way the two of you show love to one another. A home, 2 babies, now panels working to give you all the power you need. Your an amazing couple.

The time lapse starting @11:33 helps us really see how different the seasonal levels will be and how well orchestrated the mechanism is to make the necessary changes. You guys must be so proud of the way your home is coming together. It seems unreal how far you've come. I've been watching since your were prepping for the delivery of your containers . . . and have been hooked ever since.

I had noticed the old service pole in previous videos; but never thought you guys ever had power from the grid! Knowing the barn was already there. I just assumed the barn once had power. The explanation of a previous mobile home makes perfect sense! You guys are awesome; and just let the haters keep hating! Those are just the jealous folks 😘.

Exactly what I'd thought.I've seen it there since they started.I thought perhaps it was a regulation that there be service, but they didn't use it.Why would Spencer have to run a generator to weld if they Had power?DUH.

I hope the private companies and the government are taking notes of your achievements. My Congratulations! God Bless.

I never doubted you guys. I remember this pole for earlier videos. Makes sense how a previous trailer may have been connected to the grid there. Actually, here in Texas, some lots for sale will boast about having those poles because it will be less expensive for the new property owners to have the utilities turned on.

(Will never forget the first time I had to completely take ALL of the binding off of a large quilt because...I was a new quilter...and had sewed the whole thing together wrong, lol. Took me four hours, by hand, sitting cross-legged on my mentor's studio floor. It was, of course, totally worth it --the quilt turned out to be SO much more beautiful in its final incarnation...and it was a great life lesson to boot. :-)

That solar array looks fantastic. I watched from the very early videos (i think it was your 2nd one ever I caught) and I clearly recall you using that old power pole as you mentioned.
I think you also mentioned it in an early video too, on how you had old lines coming in (might have been when you showed the old wooden place and teased you were living there). I know not everyone who watches caught your channel as early as I did or binge watch them, but it is a shame that people don't try to look back on your earlier videos to see if it was addressed then. I'm glad you were able to address it now and hopefully the video title will be enough for any future uncertainty by viewers.
Can't wait to see trim work come to fruition. It never ceases to amaze me how far you've come.

@ 8 mins..... And our next project for your solar panels is to add drive motors to the jacks and tie them into a controller that will maintain optimal angle based on derived power output! I would love to do some of the research for you on that project LOL! 50+ years of electronics with some mechanical background. You guys rock beyond words! (I remember the power pole from very early videos and one look makes it obvious that it is not in service.)

Something you might consider is having the transformer and lines removed then replace that vapor lamp with an LED area light. Be very handy going outside after dark. You could also put a REAL lightning rod on the top of the pole, that would help protect everything since it's so much higher.

I love when the little things come together , and it's great to have the freedom to totally live off grid . And just a little advise with kids don't be quiet in the home when I brought my girls home I cleaned and vacuumed right by there cribs played the tv or had a radio on during their nap times . They will sleep better and you don't have to feel you have to walk around or not to be able to do anything. Anyways love you all

I agree...my 8 children grew up with lots of music being played during the day, including nap time. If kids don't get used to sleeping with noise, they'll have trouble sleeping thru noise when they're older.
