The renovation plan sucks! It cuts seats from the stadium and prices out fans that would normally come to games. We are giving up our season tickets because of it. We live out of state and we live on a budget. Going for a game weekend in Tallahassee is already an expensive venture when you are on a budget and trying to plan for retirement. I think FSU has lost site of the fact that most people travel from out of state and are typical middle class people. They are cutting the number of seats available and raising the price on those remaining seats to the point that it will become unaffordable for many out of state FSU fans/alumni who would normally make two or three games a year. I'm all for replacing the steel with new reinforced concrete and improving the concessions and bathrooms but we could have kept the same layout and cut fewer seats while adding cushions and that would have made most of us very happy. I think when you make going to a football game a class system event designed to be enjoyable for the wealthiest fans, you lose focus of FSU history and tradition in the name of greed. Something that used to be and inclusive becomes just like boarding an aircraft. That's a shame and at some point will come back to bite the university.
FSU sold out last year, I totally agree with you, my Uncle, Dad and I have been boosters and ticket holders for 50 years and now we are being priced out of the games, it will be rich people who don't care to yell and make some noise, it will eventually be like watching games at a high school game. Not much crowd noise for sure, 10,000 fewer fans DOES make a difference!
@@PeopleHateTheTRUTH123 It's sad to watch the school lose touch with their fan base but that is what's happening. Some or our regular groups to hang out with on game weekends are also giving up their season tickets for the same reasons. When I was a student, I remember standing sideways on wooden bleachers in the end zone next to Moore Athletic Center because it was standing room only and we were crammed in like sardines. It was part of the experience. Nobody gave a crap about which elite level booster you were in those days. Games were LOUD and really fun. I'm happy to see stadium improvements but sad that it's not better thought out to be more inclusive. Instead, it seems to be focused on separating people by their income/wealth levels. I'm financially comfortable but that's because I make wise choices about how I spend.
Don't complain on this RUclips channel. Ya'll need to write to Michael Alford and express how you feel, only then will change takes place
"College football" is headed within three years toward a private equity buyout a la LIV Golf. The Big10 and SEC will sell out for a multi-billion deal that will include the stadiums. FSU is positioning themselves for the future where smaller stadiums will be necessary as the ticket prices continue to go up and up. My guess is the top tier 40 or so TV schools sell, coaching staffs drop off the state payroll, and the utter collapse of the NCAA around NIL deals making this all possible is complete. The university presidents would love to solve all their athletics headaches with this action.
The school doesn't care about you. You need to pay more. They have hundreds of administrators to pay the salaries of. You need to pay your share of the DEI admin bloat. Shut up and pay more.
40 year booster and season ticket holder here! Truth is, if you can't pay, you can't play. Loyalty is expected but rarely reciprocated. It's the business of college football consuming the sport of college football.
The killed the logo
CAUTION: Any program should focus on the fans more than the not-so-almighty-dollar. The fan is your base, not ESPN. Without the fans you don't have a program.
I think the seats are bigger, so it reduces the number of actual seats.
However, FSU is looking to get out of the Acc and get into a real power 5 conference, but at the same time reducing capacity. It doesn’t make any sense at all.
This project increases revenue exponentially
“looking to get into a real power five conference.”
have you not been paying attention? there are two power conferences. the Big 12 and ACC are the second tier as of last year.
the SEC (ESPN/ABC) and Big18 (Fox, NBC, and CBS) are meeting to determine who gets who in the ACC and if they can do the same with the Big 12. They will choose the programs that can remain relevant or not. This wont happen for another few years or so.
when its all said and done:
Tier 1- SEC and Big 18
Tier 2- Big 12*
Tier 3- The remaining smaller conferences
If the Big 12 is allowed to remain, the remaining ACC teams will go to the Big 12 if not scooped by the big 2.
I fit the profile of the impacted/priced out booster/ticket holder you speak of. Held my four on the 30yd line, home side of field since '08, having moved from the sunny side of the stadium where I'd sat since '93. My annual cost of those 4 seats at $350 each plus my tomahawk booster contribution [dropped from Silver Chief after the tax deduction was eliminated in '16] was $3,000. Fast forward to the renovated stadium for '25? They're asking me for $3250 PER SEAT [$750 ticket cost + $2500 booster contribution] and a "one time capital gift of $10,000 PER SEAT. Do the math. They're demanding me and others like me to underwrite the stadium remodel, much of which involves things like clubs and terraces with all manner of food options and restricted entry/access that are of zero interest to us, and my annual cost for the four seats as described went from $3000 to $13,000 annually . ? They're demanding a total of $53,000 [4 tickets and 4 "capitol gifts"] from me and others like me, and I personally know fans with better seats from whom far more is being demanded. Those demands are largely met with scorn and contempt. So, bottom line? Before I'll underwrite that insanity, I'll remove myself from contributing booster status. I'll go to Ireland, and a few other road games and lay out less than I would for a normal seven-game home schedule in Tallahassee, which includes all the associated travel costs of overnight stays, food and drink, fueling the long round trip drives, wear & tear on the truck. And the cherry on the sundae? I'm not even an alum. There was no sense of obligation, nobody needing to guilt me into it year after year, I did it because I loved it. No more. $53 GRAND by the 2025 season opener? Quoting Florida State's own Lee Corso? "Fuggedabowdit"
That's unreal, how can the "average" person afford this kind of money on football tickets? 55k for 4 tickets? That's unbelievable 😳, outrageous, and unacceptable to expect anyone to put out that kind of money. This should be the one place that should be considered a "family friendly" place that encourages the family that grows up together and keeps their tickets and keeps passing them down to future generations.
@@frankfrank9437 I hear you Frank. THIS is how insane that is: the "one time only capital gift" of 40K [10K x 4 seats]? More than the balance on my mortgage. And it isn't close. And then the extra 13k annually going forward [the 3250 for each of the 4 season tickets] I'm just over it.
F EM THEY CHANGED THE LOGO AND UNIFORMS
I'm not surprised, the last time I was in the stadium the "collage" football atmosphere is gone. the music that they play before and during the game, even over the band was crap, just absolute crap... PLEASE stop the madness!!!
All the pleas for donations fall on my deaf ears because I vowed never to donate a cent when the school screwed over the fan base by changing the logo with no input from fans or alumni. It was at a time in my life when I’d finally reached the ability to donate, I’d just spent a significant sum going to the national championship in the Rose Bowl, and the athletic department knifed me in the gut by changing to Chief Walmart. I will never forgive them.
Damn, it’s a surprise the building is even still standing without you supporting 😂
@@DoubleFriesNoSlaw lol. It is what it is. They absolutely gave a huge middle finger to the fan base. I have no misconceptions that anyone at the school ever gave a damn about anyone’s opinion on the matter. So my only way to protest is to withhold money that I would be donating otherwise. Your reply is exactly what I’d expect.
They whored out a great University for nike bucks. Nike bucks were more important than my 21-years of season tickets and booster money that my employer Lockheed Martin matched.
@@DoubleFriesNoSlawsuch a stupid comment. I hate the new logo and will never wear that trash! I’m such the New York transplants love it
@@jimmyvann1238what they did to the uniforms and helmet is CRIMINAL! NEVER GIVE THEM A DIME
I just hope it doesn’t work out like the champions club. Games at capacity and the champions club is empty because they are all inside at the bar and the section is empty. Looks bad on TV
The champions club has been sold out more than it hasn't. It's been a massive success.
Weird to hope something the school you cheer for does something that fails imo.
You missed what they said - CC may be “sold out” but with everyone inside watching the TVs and drinking the SEATS look empty most of the time.
I personally love CC and love to watch games there BUT most of the people around me are in their seats for less than 20 mins the whole game
That is a different atmosphere than fans in their seats and cheering for the team.
@@tsmiles_ Agreed. A problem at many stadiums that put in luxury club level seats. Lots of golf clappers just there to be seen.
@@DoubleFriesNoSlawwhere is your head space at to think what the OP said was negative? 😅
I read “hope it doesn’t work out” - as he was saying the CC was a failure. Re-reading, I can see it a different way. Maybe he was just saying “Hope it’s not a similar situation.”
I'm the guy with a grip but I also understand the need.30 years only missed 6 home games. Guess I'll have to get a tan on the other side.
Florida state needs to work with the hotels because the overcharging for crappy rooms is CRAZY it’s actually embarrassing to Florida State University when people travel down to the games . Let’s face it’s not the nicest or safest place in Leon County
Agree. I paid $1,500 for three days at a Hampton Inn for the last game I attended in 2022. Never again. FSU's issue versus every other school is that 90% of the alumni base live more than a 3 hour drive from the school.
Bro- that will never happen
The AD, BOOSTERS are turning Doak into a luxurious arena with suites, restaurants, amenities, upgraded facilities for multi-purpose concerts, motocross, and events in order to make money. They are reducing capacity to add these upgrades. Doak is going to be smaller, more expensive place because of all these luxurious suites and premium seating. The football atmosphere is not going to be the same and Doak is going to be the smallest stadium in the south when all is said and done. These renovations are being done to generate money. They are not being done for the players, the students, or the fans. Hiring a successful coach and a winning coach will bring fans to the stadium. Places like UCF are expanding their stadium, not making it smaller. Doak is adding things that are going to cost people more money. The suites are going to be expensive, the restaurants are going to be expensive, the premium seating is going to be expensive, and in a place like Tallahassee, Florida where locally the money is not here in this town, you have to rely on out of town sales for these expensive suites in the stadium. They want to bring motocross to Doak Campbell Stadium? Concerts? They can't even fill the civic center or cascade park with the outdoor concerts (the ones with the city are free) but they are going to fill Doak Campbell with these type of events? I just don't think the locals will go for it, maybe so?
I think if they had expanding Doak, lowered ticket prices, provided better tailgating, and parking opportunities for the money, people would jump on board. Turning Doak Campbell into a luxurious arena, I think, is a big mistake. Making it smaller and pushing fans away is not going to help anything either. We are still going to have capacity of about 60k. A recruit would rather play before a crowd of 110k instead of 55k. It is going to affect recruiting, I believe, in the future when this gets done. Mistake, big mistake!
I have an idea that could benefit everyone. Say in a couple years once this project is done, what if we look to expand over the north endzone? Build a whole second tier of bleacher seating there. Bring capacity back up around 80-85k. That way we still get the nice new improvements on the home side. But we also have an affordable section still and can keep capacity numbers high. Where’s the downside in that scenario?
Also, that massive tunnel on the south end zone can be closed in. Would like to see that end zone brought closer in, we could get rid of like half the tunnels in and out of the field and we wouldn't be sorry.
I approve both of these messages
@@hfg8604 I would also rebuild centennial field as an 8,500-9,000 seater baseball stadium at cascades park, to be shared by FSU and a minor league team. Use the space currently occupied by dick howser for additional parking.
Where the MARCHING CHIEFS are currently sitting?
@@frankfrank9437 No, the other end, below the Champions Club.
This Had to be done if FSU Football is going to stay competitive for the next 30+ years in college football. Inaction is ultimately safer but binds nothing for the Future and Betterment for FSU Football!
I’m not sure who decided to do these renovations, but I think they should be fired. The stadium needed to be upgraded but the seating was fine. You could’ve done everything underneath.
The suites are not necessary, the restaurant are not necessary. They are turning Doak into a luxurious arena for multi-purpose concerts and motocross and other year-round events and activities that will make money. They don't care about the football players, students, and the fans. All they care about the money!
80,000 to 50,000 is wild.
If anything, would have made sense to increase seats.
This is not what’s happening long term. It’s just reduced to this while the renovations are happening.
The stadium is never going to be back to 80k, 60k is the max size!
My family has been long time boosters and season ticket holders but to renew our seats they want 60k in seat fees not even including the tickets. We no longer are getting tickets
Funny how history repeats itself, I had season tickets from 05-13 ( my family had them since 91, but I’m just going with when I started my season package ) and ticket/booster prices doubled after winning the national championship, and I called what would happen. All the band wagon fans would buy up the tickets, and leave once we went down hill. FSU admin has done this to themselves honestly, and then expect the loyal fans they pushed out to come back? I can watch just fine on my couch with my daughter.
Fans who are getting priced out are no one important. The admin doesn't give a fuck about 50 year fans who only buy season tickets. They want to pay administrative bloat. there is 1 admin for every 3 students...WHY?
greed
Well they killed our logo too
I am a long time booster and season ticket holder and I am not a fan of reducing capacity. I am a fan of the renovations though. It will be awesome. What needs to occur is a future plan to expand the stadium to add back the 10k seats we are losing. That is the long term solution.
We're losing 25k seats. The capacity is only going to be 60k after all this is done 60k maybe?
Doak needs to be louder and more intimidating
Fans will complain either way. Imagine still having steel bleachers for +90% of the stadium in 2030.
Change must happen to keep up. I want to win, and that takes money.
People are weak. Can’t hardly stand. It’s pathetic really
The love of money is the root of all evil. These guys talking about who should and shouldn’t be upset is hilarious.
I've been going to that stadium since 1980. All we wanted to do was add seats, now it's taking away seats.
The school doesn't care about you. You need to pay more. They have hundreds of administrators to pay the salaries of. You need to pay your share of the DEI admin bloat. Shut up and pay more.
It's all about revenue. Don't hate the player, hate the game. New facilities, higher coaches pay, more coaches, players may be employees, the list goes on & on.
Doak doesn't have sellout crowds every single game.... is basically what they're trying to say. To maximize revenue potential, premium upgrades are in the work to entice people willing to spend $$$.
LOL WE JUST NEED BETTER OPPONENTS
I am affected by the renovation with my seats, and it sucks to be priced out. But I was priced out of hotel stay prices way before ticket prices.
Look at what other schools do and see how far behind we are.
The need is there to make changes to appease those who can afford it.
The rich do not care about the non-rich. 💁 NEVER have, never will.
It’s officially a business and has little to do with the school
I had no idea FSU didn't regularly sell out every seat.
F all the little people that put into the booters back in the day. When Bowden left they need some money and now they have been priced out
No, those people are mad.
Still paying for fired coach pay-offs?
My back still hurts from standing and sitting at the crowded Miami game last year.
You sat in that game? I feel like I stood the whole game jammed shoulder to shoulder with other fans. When Doak is sold out it's really over capacity
@RobMacQ I stood sideways just to fit. Shoulder to shoulder wasn't even an option. I also sat sideways on that metal bench. I was contorted because my shoulders wouldn't fit between the people next to me. It was super uncomfortable. Luckily, I was drunk but when I sobered up I was feeling it. It may be the few thousand cheeseburgers I've had since my first game at Doak but older me is happy they are putting seats in the stadium instead of benches.
I fully understand shaming students and alumni into making donations, but it's weird to me to beg people that have no affiliation to the school whatsoever (other than liking their football team) to make donations to a school they didn't (or couldn't even get into) attend, so that a kid can get rich playing college football.
As far as the stadium goes, if you're not a current student, alumni, or a booster, you should have absolutely no say in anything, nor should you have the right to complain. Re: attendance, Tallahassee is a small town that's isolated from the rest of the states population centers. It's an overnight trip for most people in the state (minimum) and they get gouged by hotels. People that are looking to fly in for a game, they not only have to fly into Orlando or Jacksonville and rent a car, but they also get gouged by the hotels in the Panhandle.
Reducing capacity and raising prices is probably in the best interest of the school moving forward.
I just joined the booster club last year(2023)at $19/month. I can't remember what level that is but if I could do more, I would bc I love my Noles! I live around Tampa so it's an easy 4 hour drive to Tallahassee but I love the drive and atmosphere at home games. I feel like I'm among family bc we all support the same team. Fear the Spear-----;;>

Likely only his secretaries read them, then free throw them into the can. You know, like your congressional reps.
@@brucebaur5670 So you have 2 choices either write to him and hopefully he reads himself or you can just suck it up, butter cup and deal with the new changes. But the choice is yours now pick one and shut up! 😜
@@willkeepsitreal1655 Bad ass mercenary in [Bein Hoa --- 1969]. Butter cup? In person your talk would have cost you a few teeth, kiddo. Watch your back.
I stopped giving to the boosters when they decided they wanted to build college town
That started our downfall even a booster run bar cannot hide cell phone footage of players punching women
If you join the Big reducing your stadium will be ok. They don't travel and don't take football as serious. However, if you joined the SEC you would have to add seats. It would be excitement with lots of SEC fans coming every game. I would think 90,000 would be needed and this is for sure.
They cannot join Big Ten because of academics
Its only good for people that can afford it. The rest of us will have to find a way to pay for what used to be the less expensive seating. And, the stadium is losing seat capacity.
You can just go ahead and stick a cork in that idea that we can’t fill up a bigger stadium. The population around Tallahassee and the Panhandle continues to grow your over year. The stadium is not growing with it.
Go NOLES, The Climb, Trust Coach Norvell...All part of Winning... Prices change.🔥🏈🏆
So do the logo and uniforms.. change the warchant too? Lol
Will Doak Campbell Stadium still be the largest freestanding brick structure in the United States and second largest in the world to the Great Wall of China?

Wah wah wah! Folks who are season ticket holders and are temporarily displaced for a season or may be permanently reassigned need to get over it. The changes are about providing long term benefits for the greater good. You want the same seats then pony up the cheddar.
