The renovation plan sucks! It cuts seats from the stadium and prices out fans that would normally come to games. We are giving up our season tickets because of it. We live out of state and we live on a budget. Going for a game weekend in Tallahassee is already an expensive venture when you are on a budget and trying to plan for retirement. I think FSU has lost site of the fact that most people travel from out of state and are typical middle class people. They are cutting the number of seats available and raising the price on those remaining seats to the point that it will become unaffordable for many out of state FSU fans/alumni who would normally make two or three games a year. I'm all for replacing the steel with new reinforced concrete and improving the concessions and bathrooms but we could have kept the same layout and cut fewer seats while adding cushions and that would have made most of us very happy. I think when you make going to a football game a class system event designed to be enjoyable for the wealthiest fans, you lose focus of FSU history and tradition in the name of greed. Something that used to be and inclusive becomes just like boarding an aircraft. That's a shame and at some point will come back to bite the university.

FSU sold out last year, I totally agree with you, my Uncle, Dad and I have been boosters and ticket holders for 50 years and now we are being priced out of the games, it will be rich people who don't care to yell and make some noise, it will eventually be like watching games at a high school game. Not much crowd noise for sure, 10,000 fewer fans DOES make a difference!

@@PeopleHateTheTRUTH123 It's sad to watch the school lose touch with their fan base but that is what's happening. Some or our regular groups to hang out with on game weekends are also giving up their season tickets for the same reasons. When I was a student, I remember standing sideways on wooden bleachers in the end zone next to Moore Athletic Center because it was standing room only and we were crammed in like sardines. It was part of the experience. Nobody gave a crap about which elite level booster you were in those days. Games were LOUD and really fun. I'm happy to see stadium improvements but sad that it's not better thought out to be more inclusive. Instead, it seems to be focused on separating people by their income/wealth levels. I'm financially comfortable but that's because I make wise choices about how I spend.

"College football" is headed within three years toward a private equity buyout a la LIV Golf. The Big10 and SEC will sell out for a multi-billion deal that will include the stadiums. FSU is positioning themselves for the future where smaller stadiums will be necessary as the ticket prices continue to go up and up. My guess is the top tier 40 or so TV schools sell, coaching staffs drop off the state payroll, and the utter collapse of the NCAA around NIL deals making this all possible is complete. The university presidents would love to solve all their athletics headaches with this action.

“looking to get into a real power five conference.”
have you not been paying attention? there are two power conferences. the Big 12 and ACC are the second tier as of last year.
the SEC (ESPN/ABC) and Big18 (Fox, NBC, and CBS) are meeting to determine who gets who in the ACC and if they can do the same with the Big 12. They will choose the programs that can remain relevant or not. This wont happen for another few years or so.
when its all said and done:
Tier 1- SEC and Big 18
      Tier 2- Big 12*
Tier 3- The remaining smaller conferences
If the Big 12 is allowed to remain, the remaining ACC teams will go to the Big 12 if not scooped by the big 2.

I fit the profile of the impacted/priced out booster/ticket holder you speak of. Held my four on the 30yd line, home side of field since '08, having moved from the sunny side of the stadium where I'd sat since '93. My annual cost of those 4 seats at $350 each plus my tomahawk booster contribution [dropped from Silver Chief after the tax deduction was eliminated in '16] was $3,000. Fast forward to the renovated stadium for '25? They're asking me for $3250 PER SEAT [$750 ticket cost + $2500 booster contribution] and a "one time capital gift of $10,000 PER SEAT. Do the math. They're demanding me and others like me to underwrite the stadium remodel, much of which involves things like clubs and terraces with all manner of food options and restricted entry/access that are of zero interest to us, and my annual cost for the four seats as described went from $3000 to $13,000 annually . ? They're demanding a total of $53,000 [4 tickets and 4 "capitol gifts"] from me and others like me, and I personally know fans with better seats from whom far more is being demanded. Those demands are largely met with scorn and contempt. So, bottom line? Before I'll underwrite that insanity, I'll remove myself from contributing booster status. I'll go to Ireland, and a few other road games and lay out less than I would for a normal seven-game home schedule in Tallahassee, which includes all the associated travel costs of overnight stays, food and drink, fueling the long round trip drives, wear & tear on the truck. And the cherry on the sundae? I'm not even an alum. There was no sense of obligation, nobody needing to guilt me into it year after year, I did it because I loved it. No more. $53 GRAND by the 2025 season opener? Quoting Florida State's own Lee Corso? "Fuggedabowdit"

That's unreal, how can the "average" person afford this kind of money on football tickets? 55k for 4 tickets? That's unbelievable 😳, outrageous, and unacceptable to expect anyone to put out that kind of money. This should be the one place that should be considered a "family friendly" place that encourages the family that grows up together and keeps their tickets and keeps passing them down to future generations.

The AD, BOOSTERS are turning Doak into a luxurious arena with suites, restaurants, amenities, upgraded facilities for multi-purpose concerts, motocross, and events in order to make money. They are reducing capacity to add these upgrades. Doak is going to be smaller, more expensive place because of all these luxurious suites and premium seating. The football atmosphere is not going to be the same and Doak is going to be the smallest stadium in the south when all is said and done. These renovations are being done to generate money. They are not being done for the players, the students, or the fans. Hiring a successful coach and a winning coach will bring fans to the stadium. Places like UCF are expanding their stadium, not making it smaller. Doak is adding things that are going to cost people more money. The suites are going to be expensive, the restaurants are going to be expensive, the premium seating is going to be expensive, and in a place like Tallahassee, Florida where locally the money is not here in this town, you have to rely on out of town sales for these expensive suites in the stadium. They want to bring motocross to Doak Campbell Stadium? Concerts? They can't even fill the civic center or cascade park with the outdoor concerts (the ones with the city are free) but they are going to fill Doak Campbell with these type of events? I just don't think the locals will go for it, maybe so?
I think if they had expanding Doak, lowered ticket prices, provided better tailgating, and parking opportunities for the money, people would jump on board. Turning Doak Campbell into a luxurious arena, I think, is a big mistake. Making it smaller and pushing fans away is not going to help anything either. We are still going to have capacity of about 60k. A recruit would rather play before a crowd of 110k instead of 55k. It is going to affect recruiting, I believe, in the future when this gets done. Mistake, big mistake!

I have an idea that could benefit everyone. Say in a couple years once this project is done, what if we look to expand over the north endzone? Build a whole second tier of bleacher seating there. Bring capacity back up around 80-85k. That way we still get the nice new improvements on the home side. But we also have an affordable section still and can keep capacity numbers high. Where’s the downside in that scenario?

As far as the stadium goes, if you're not a current student, alumni, or a booster, you should have absolutely no say in anything, nor should you have the right to complain. Re: attendance, Tallahassee is a small town that's isolated from the rest of the states population centers. It's an overnight trip for most people in the state (minimum) and they get gouged by hotels. People that are looking to fly in for a game, they not only have to fly into Orlando or Jacksonville and rent a car, but they also get gouged by the hotels in the Panhandle.

If you join the Big reducing your stadium will be ok. They don't travel and don't take football as serious. However, if you joined the SEC you would have to add seats. It would be excitement with lots of SEC fans coming every game. I would think 90,000 would be needed and this is for sure.

Its only good for people that can afford it. The rest of us will have to find a way to pay for what used to be the less expensive seating. And, the stadium is losing seat capacity.

You can just go ahead and stick a cork in that idea that we can’t fill up a bigger stadium. The population around Tallahassee and the Panhandle continues to grow your over year. The stadium is not growing with it.

Will Doak Campbell Stadium still be the largest freestanding brick structure in the United States and second largest in the world to the Great Wall of China?

Wah wah wah! Folks who are season ticket holders and are temporarily displaced for a season or may be permanently reassigned need to get over it. The changes are about providing long term benefits for the greater good. You want the same seats then pony up the cheddar. The program is moving forward and it’s about time we upgraded from an erector set stadium. FSU is doing everything it can to advance the program and the fan experience. Go Noles!
