It was a Boeing 737-Max. Is has larger engines that had to mounted slightly forward and slightly upward (partially above the wing top surface) to fit under the wings and not scrape the ground because the 737 series have relatively short lander gear. With the way the engines were placed and their power, the 737-Max tends to pull nose up in climbs - leading to a sudden stall. So the MCAS system was added "somewhat covertly" to automatically pull back by using the elevator trim. In an effort to claim the 737-Max flew just like the 737-800 (and to make it cost effective to the airlines by stating no special training was required), Boeing did not mention, stress, or even train the pilots about the new MCAS (which always is enabled by default) or how to disable it. So, if a pitch sensor fails on the aircraft, MCAS gets confused and tries to pitch down (even if in level flight), the pilots not being well trained about the "hidden" MCAS will fight the plane and the MCAS until it ends up in a irrecoverable nose dive. The pilots usually have about 15 seconds to figure out MCAS is the problem and disable it. After which the pilot must be VERY careful not to pitch up too much and make an emergency landing. This accident seems very much to be a MCAS/Training issue.
Interviewer: Is it possible that the passengers would have passed out before the crash? Pilot: No way. They would have been screaming all the way down. Interviewer: 😧

I know a thing or two about plane crashes since I've watched a lot of documentaries about them. I would be pretty hyped if they came to me and not a well-known ACI for information on these things. I actually had the feeling when some of my high school classmates came to me for anything I knew about WW1 and WW2 during those units in history class
Meanwhile, I've got zero fear of a death such as that or any other way for that matter. Jesus Christ said, *"I am telling you the truth, whoever believes in me has eternal life."* (John 6:47)

@@richardschofield2201 And further a professional news media company has studied the idea that body language and demeanor on visible mediums is a key consideration.
They did (briefly) design a flight control system that had command authority over the pilots and could (and did) over-ride any control input that it considered "wrong". Lost the airplane (fortunately the two pilots survived) shooting a routine touch and go for the media when the computer decided the pilot's advancing of the throttles to take off again was a "mistake" and over-rode it. Plane went off the end of the runway into a line of trees and was destroyed. To have a system that can always over-ride the pilot means you have to anticipate and program for every possible scenario that can happen. Right now the systems try to strike a balance between preventing pilot error and "HAL 9000" mode. Unfortunately that means intentional acts are not prevented. I'm told there is at least one CVR out there where the last snippet of conversation was the pilot saying to his first officer, "I know what I need to do but it won't let me do it" referring to the computer.
Just a guess: That vertical drop did not look "out of control". Rather, it looked intentional. A plane just does not head straight down like that. It will always have some horizontal motion. It was traveling at hundreds of miles per hour. To change its direction, from parallel to the ground, to what we saw in the video, would happen only if the pilot steered the plane straight down. Countless plane crashes have been recorded and investigated. I am aware of none that did a straight downward dive.
@@SJF15 that's not how a Vertical Stabilizer Failure work, If the Vertical Stabalizer fell off or ripped off the Pilots would have been able to pull a JAL 123 for even just a few minutes the plane would dip down speed up and go up and do the same.
@@SJF15 When an object is travelling forwards at 600 MPH (or whatever X hundreds it was travelling at), it does not come to a halt and go straight down. When you have 600 MPH of forward momentum, even if you fall from the sky, when you hit the ground you would still be travelling forward.
Yeah. So they were probably stalling and nosed down their plane too late. And improperly. The dive was likely intentional but it was too low to the ground and too steep. No way to really know at all though.
It's a bit odd though how so many "experts" have a similar opinion that it was pilot suicide. It's possible that it was, but mechanical failure is still a possibility. A few years back an Amazon/ Atlas Air 767 did a nose dive while landing in Houston and that was pilot error. A Valujet DC9 crashed liked that into FL swamps due to a fire on board years back and two 737s were lost due to a rudder issue several years ago. Both did a nose dive into the ground. I'm just saying, while it could be suicide or a terror attack a la 9/11 style but there are other scenarios where a plane can nose dive into the ground. We can't just dismiss it like that.
If no pilots were present; would not nose dive as such seems like must be a stabilizer issue which has both hydraulic and mechanical control? Were there not several 737s that crashed long ago similarly?

Possible, but the point where the aircraft fell was at TOD (Top Of Descent) & likely where pilots would be directed by ATC to kick off their descent into the destination airport. If say the PF (Pilot Flying) had an adverse reaction & had slumped over the 737-800 control column pushing the column completely forward, causing the aircraft nose to go into extreme pitch down, the PM (Pilot Monitoring) could call for help from the crew to lift the PF away & re-establish aircraft control. The other cause (which has happened before) is extreme elevator hardover ie jackscrew or stab trim failure. If it was an adverse reaction, guaranteed they'd hide it especially if a stack of similar accidents happen over the coming year & guess we'll find out soon enough

The scariest part about this story is the fact that according to this expert, because this plane was old it had a lesser chance of something going wrong.
When my Chinese wife told me parts were coming off, I responded with, “it must had been drove straight in”. There is nothing left of that 737-800. It was vaporized upon impact. Very tragic, RIP dear people.
But the black box will survive. Recall the plane in 9/11 that crashed in PN USA where it left a crater a few meters deep and all parts of the airplane in tiny pieces except the black box, which was intact.
@Ibn Ahmad you're making an ass (porky pig bacon) of yourself, a plane that was trying to hit the Whitehouse most certainly crashed in western Pennsylvania
According to Flightradar24, aircraft fell at nearly 31000ft/min ie approx 350mph or 563kmh. This would've easily exceeded the 737-800 Vne speeds & structural integrity would surely be compromised as pieces tore off during the near vertical dive
Its a bit insensitive for the old dude to be laughing his head off and then talking about how "the passengers were screaming all the way down". What a psychopath.

@@jackiegreen3444 Usually when you see something screaming overhead and it doesn’t look right, people tend to whip out their phone and record. Happens on a few crashes like that Chalk Airlines that went down in Miami a long time ago
I was on a plane that did exactly this, except the pilots got us out of the long, shaky dive and we lived. We had spent 3.5 hours sitting in the plane after boarding in London for our 6:30 pm flight to JFK. A flight I always took when traveling back from London. They announced there was a hydraulic problem and I watched the engines being taken apart outside my window as they tried to fix it. I had a bad premonition and insisted I be let off the plane, but they said I was just anxious and moved me from my window seat to one of those seats by the galley that have only legroom in front of you, no seats. They eventually brought sandwiches and tea/coffee on board as the hydraulics apparently affected the water on board too. Adding another 4 hours on the plane (on the ground) in addition to an 8 hour flight in that direction (it’s only 5 1/2 from JFK to HRW with a good tailwind, but approximately 8 hours the other way) probably meant they didn’t have enough food for that length of time and to keep us occupied. I thought It was strange that they didn’t deplane us. We eventually took off and had a normal flight until about an hour from NYC, just above Boston, when suddenly our plane just nose-dived straight down. shaking wildly. I hadn’t got my seatbelt on and I was floating above my seat. The guy to my left had his seat belt on and reached up to wrestle me back into my seat and get the seat belt on. The person to my right had gone to the bathroom just before the dive. Some passengers were floating upwards as well as anything that wasn’t secure. It was terrifying. After a long while, I can’t say how many, seemed like an eternity, but was about 5 minutes, I think, the plane seemed to come out of the dive and level out briefly before it was diving straight down again. After some screaming, it got quiet, people were holding hands. I was sure we were all going to die. The stewards managed the get into their seats, but nothing was said by the pilots or flight crew. The plane was brought out of the nose dive after a terror filled period of time. Not a word was said by any of the BA crew or pilots who were probably trying to keep us steady until we arrived at JFK. The entire airport was lit up with emergency lighting and vehicles, fire engines etc. Lights were out in the cabin, no immigration or customs forms were handed out. Everyone was silent. We landed at 3:30 am, the plane was then sprayed with water from fire engines surrounding us for some time. Eventually, the plane was taken from the remote area where we were and the passengers deplaned normally, without a word of explanation. The crew were herding us off as quickly as possible, with our belongings. There were no customs or immigration, they just let us go through. It’s unusual highly unusual to have planes landing in the middle of the night, I believe there was a law about the noise and arrivals and departures had to be within those times, unless there’s an emergency. Perhaps there were no personnel there or pehaps they all spared us after that horrific nightmare experience. This was on Jan 13, 1986, and on board were all the sports journalists from the big national newspapers to cover the tennis tournament at Madison Square Garden. During the flight I had got talking to a few of them at the back of the plane waiting for the loo. Afterwards we were waiting a long time for our luggage and we got talking about what had happened. They travelled constantly worldwide following all the tennis tournaments and nothing had ever happened to them even remotely like that. One of them was kind enough to give me two front row tickets to the Boris Becker/Edberg match and we all decided to meet up for a drink prior to the match. I took my best friend, another British girl and enormous tennis fan, with me. Of course, I asked if they knew what had happened because I didn’t know officially. We all decided it was a severe hydraulic problem. I’m forever grateful to those pilots because they saved that plane. So this video to me is just speculation and for dramatic effect. It’s a possibility yes, but so was mechanical failure as in a hydraulic problem or something else. I agree with him, you definitely don’t lose consciousness. You are absolutely terrified, panicky and then you get very quiet hoping for a miracle. One thing I learned from that flight is always leave your seatbelt fastened even after the sign goes out. I will never forget that day. I had only seen my parents in the Heathrow terminal for a couple of hours as my previous flight from Ljubljana to HRW had been severely delayed by snowy weather. Needless to say, I was an extremely tired, shattered mess when I got eventually got home and called my brother who was living in Australia that year. It was late afternoon for him, but I needed to talk to him as he was my best friend. Didn’t want to disturb my poor parents. Sorry to be so long winded, could have just said hydraulic problem, but this video struck a nerve and it is possible to nose dive like that. I’m not religious, but I often wonder how those pilots managed.
Either you changed some of the details or you totally made this story up. I searched BA's incidents history as well as any airline incidents in 1986 and found nothing of this.
Wow what a terrifying experience so it seems we know by what you experienced that's probably what happened on board your pilot was most definitely very good at flying and landing but why didn't the airlines switch to another plane it seems there was a big risk after your plane almost crashed I wouldn't get on a plane again. I hope your doing well for yourself and counting your blessings your alive today there was a crash small plane in Utah the whole family survived it's rare but her husband is in wheel chair but many planes in Utah crashed and many don't survive i believe we have a time to die and it wasn't there time but others yes. Just last week a boy in Utah died overnight in his sleep he was healthy and it's been hard on the parents some go quickly others like myself are not done God has purpose in mind like our children or family need us at this time or we are supposed to help someone in need we never know.
I had a course on interstate but I had a bad premonition that I would be in a crash on the way there so instead of booking a plane with others I knew going, I instead used the train as a plane crash is worst than a train crash. The moment I hoped onto that train I knew I hadn't avoided this accident and got upset, a friend calmed me down telling me not to worry that it wouldn't crash and tried to convince me that the premonition was wrong. Sure enough though that train crashed and I ended up in the Glenbrook Rail disaster which I think killed 7.

No way! 1. Rapid depressurization is easily noticable- no high risk of hypoxia 2. Emergency descent is not 90° to the ground! 3. If they where unconscious, the airplane would just follow the route programmed and executed by autopilot, there wouldn't be such a descent in any way!

100% pilot suicide. There is no other possibility. This is not a flight control issue. I fly the 737-800(NG),900. and the MAX. It takes considerable forward stick pressure to force the airplane into that kind of decent rate. The airplane actually wants to fly normally and stable which is it's natural state. The pilot must hold that stick forward with heavy pressure, constantly, without letting up despite the cacophony of alarms that would be blaring loudly to PULL UP, PULL UP TERRAIN, PULL UP.

True but they mayday an issue before it plummeted, it was gradual, same as Alaska, while this was abrupt and no mayday. Did the leaders from the west sent condolences and well wishes messages to Chinese leaders? The death of innocent citizens in any country is a tragedy.
This is a mistake on Boeing‘s part. They upgraded their older aircraft with newer technology that they’re having problems with. There’s an antenna on the front of the nose that gives readings on whether or not the nose is it the right angle especially for landing. This particular antenna has malfunction multiple times in other crashes with Boeing 737. What it’s doing is giving a false reading that the nose is too high and automatically tries to put the nose down. That’s why are you here in this video that the plane leveled out temporarily before going back into a dive. That was the pilot trying to adjust the nose of the plane because the antenna or device that it’s connected to was giving a false reading trying to put the nose down & the pilot is fighting it trying to put it back up. What strange is the very day before this crash there was a series on TV explain this the exact thing with the Boeing planes. A lot of this has to do with the company that joins Boeing attempting to cut costs.

They need to create a computer program that will prevent a pilot from deliberately crashing a airplane ✈️
A ballistic parachute. Probably be too expensive to fit one to each aircraft but I'm not getting back on a plane until they do.
I'm told there is at least one CVR out there where the last snippet of conversation was the pilot saying to his first officer, "I know what I need to do but it won't let me do it" referring to the computer.
you mean like they did for the max?
Boeing aircraft does have override control over pilot control of their aircraft, this somehow might point fingers on themselves
@@janejan9728 Exactly what I was thinking.
Just a guess:
That vertical drop did not look "out of control".
Elevator or stabilizer failure, or the vertical stabilizer detached? All these would cause a vertical descent.
@@SJF15 that's not how a Vertical Stabilizer Failure work, If the Vertical Stabalizer fell off or ripped off the Pilots would have been able to pull a JAL 123 for even just a few minutes the plane would dip down speed up and go up and do the same.

When you have 600 MPH of forward momentum, even if you fall from the sky, when you hit the ground you would still be travelling forward.
Yeah. So they were probably stalling and nosed down their plane too late. And improperly. The dive was likely intentional but it was too low to the ground and too steep.

Absolutely horrific! Reminds me of the German wings tragedy from 2015. May the victims of this terrible tragedy rest in peace.
If no pilots were present; would not nose dive as such
seems like must be a stabilizer issue which has both hydraulic and mechanical control?
Were there not several 737s that crashed long ago similarly?

The pilot probably had an adverse reaction

Wow, what a flight . Thank you for information, I know it was hard retelling .

@@andhewonders Because the Uyghur Muslims are against suicide attacks? Maybe it's against their religion? OK I didn't know that. I thought they were not unlike the Buddhists who protest by setting themselves on fire as martyrs. I dunno, haven't studied it enough, I had assumed they were like their Arab cousins and it's not against their religion to die by suicide.

@@andhewonders Do they believe in reincarnation? I find that Muslim beliefs are not universal. For example, some Muslims, the "Fivers" (Kharijites) pray standing up. Others, like the Bektashi Muslims, actually have icons in the house, even of Jesus Christ (no joke) who they revere as a prophet.
Soon or later we going to know the names of the passengers, and then maybe we can understand if someone important is in that plane , or simple another attack or maybe accidentally,,, is just to early to come with conclusion, but with everything that is going on in the world who knows
Worst tv interview seen about aircraft crash
🌹from 🇺🇸 so sorry this happened.
The aircraft creates lift as long as the airflow over the wings is maintained, causing the aircraft to steer in the direction of lift, precluding uncontrolled direct vertical flight into the ground. That aircraft was under control all the way to the crash site.
Not if the horizontal stabilizer failed, as what happened on Alaska Airlines flight 261.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska_Airlines_Flight_261
If the stabilizer fails the nose will pitch down and go into a pitch dive. That's prolly what happened.
Not correct
Another pilot suicide then?
I saw another vid and looks like something hit the passanger engine it starting smoking causing the drivers wing to tilt down and causing unbalance .
I was waiting for this guy to say "Jolly Good!"
Jolly good is an English expression ..this captain is Aussie
There was a jet in the USA that crashed vertically straight into a Florida swamp and disappeared .
ValuJet DC9 smoke in the cockpit that was because of fire in the cargo hold, because of improper shipping of oxygen container (human error in shipping)
Imagine if they would have had pilots on the news questioning 911
atleast someone finally clarified they were not knocked out by the G's.. G forces are incurred with change of direction , not traveling at high speed in a single direction
This is negative G's
The data showed that the pilots attempted to save the plane and they were successful, though only for a short moment before the plane plunge straight down again
I feel like this dude is getting off to this. Wierd demeanor mr pilot.
"...You get negative G in a nosedive. It would be screaming all the way down for 3 minutes..."
Yes ....that is a good point...I had made an earlier comment on Byron's lack of respect and for Sky to keep using him....it is a bad look for Sky
This reporter knows nothing about aircraft. Some really stupid questions here. I feel stupider after watching that🤔
It’s amazing you are able to deduce such things simply from someone’s questions. I suppose all news anchors should from now on be required to also be aviation experts
@@62Cristoforo What an idiotic thing to say. Of COURSE one can tell from the wording of a question whether the questioner has any understanding of the subject.
@@kitcat7538 whilst I don't think this journalist knows anything about airplanes, you really can't tell their knowledge with any reliability by their questions.
For example, maybe the journalist understands that there would be negligible G forces but what's the pilot to say it.
So you ask, would there be any significant G forces?
A silly question, but it get the answer broadcast.
Could be, might be? Terrorist attack? What's the point of featuring a retired airline pilot in uniform (like a doctor with a lab coat and stethoscope)? Absolutely everything is pure speculation.
On May 11, 1996, ValuJet Flight 592 nosedived into the Everglades when a fire broke out in the cargo hold, filling the cabin and passenger compartment with smoke. So, it's not unheard of.
Alaska Air 261 as well
It changed the way oxygen generators are transported.
True but they mayday an issue before it plummeted, it was gradual, same as Alaska, while this was abrupt and no mayday. It's much like the Silk Air crash which was attributed to intentional piolet flight control manipulation. Or Lauder Air where the thrust reverser deployed in flight, sending the plane into an uncontrollable dive.
@@miss.conduct But that flight corrective action was taken. It doesn’t appear to be this case if the plane went straight nose down

This guy sounded strange, pre-occupied, and too happy to talk about an aircraft accident. He should know better that. There're other possibilities that can cause this accident not just suicide. If there was a problem with the rudder like rudder locked or jammed, the aircraft may roll with the nose pointing toward the ground. It won't be long before the aircraft reach its Vne (velocity never exceed). flight controls or other parts may separate from the aircraft. The aircraft will go straight down and fast toward the ground.
If Doctors Cried over their Patients, the Patients would be Dead…
Honestly don't know what to make of this interview, Its a bit negligent to get this guy on saying what he is saying. I could tell you a much better version that wouldn't sound anywhere near as gruesome and I'm no expert. Its like he just wants to say totally bad things..
We are talking about China. No one will ever know the truth.
Did the leaders from the west sent condolences and well wishes messages to Chinese leaders? The death of innocent citizens in any country is a tragedy.
So shocking! What a terrible ordeal to go through!
Are you on about the MCAS system of the 737 MAX variant? The aircraft that crashed was 737-800 and not a 737 MAX. The 800 version doesn’t have the MCAS system installed.
wouldn't they just turn that off if it was causing problems?
@@charlesp9449 thanks for that bit of info. It just seemed awful strange after seeing the episode right before this happened. Also yes that’s what I was referencing.
@@sparkieT88 not sure tbh if they can, i think the whole MCAS thing might be automated. Anyway, it’s def not the cause of the crash for the said aircraft as it doesn’t have it, and you’d think MCAS problem for the 737 MAX has already been corrected anyway after much scrutiny from the 2 fatal crashes before making the MAX now as the safest passenger aircraft
Has CIA all over it, could back fire badly
Why is that "expert" smiling from one ear to the other when talking about a fatal airplane crash
Pretty shameful suggesting pilot suicide on virtually no information,
